I have 11 Cats That Live In A House All Of Their Own

I Have 11 Cats That Live In A House Of Their Own

My Cats Get Along With Each Other Beautifully

If you introduce cats correctly to each other, they should become friends rather quickly. I always put the newcomer in the bathroom with his food dish, water, and litter box. My other cats and he can smell each other from under the door. They can growl at each other with the safety of the door separating them. Remember not to pay too much attention to the new cat when your others cats are watching, as they are just like jealous children. Place your new cat in a room with your other cats and observe how they get along. The head of the household male cat will let the new cat know he is in charge. He may growl at him and try to get in a fight with him. Let them work it out if there is just a little spat. If you see that they will have a no-hold-barred fighting, separate your new cat again before you place them all together. They should all live in perfect harmony within a week.

Fall Cleaning Next Door

I wash all of the cat’s towels that they have for bedding. I scrub the floors with Lysol disinfectant cleaner, and I do a thorough cleaning of the house. I clean up all of the food dishes and the water bowl. I wash and clean out the litter robots and the other cat litter boxes. I make sure my heated cat beds, water dish, and electric heater are working. Now is an excellent time to throw out old cat toys or replace beds that have worn out. Order new heated beds now before the prices go up. I stock up on kitty litter and ensure I have plenty of cat food and treats. Wash your cat toys and beds that are washable. Once your heated cat beds are seven years old, replace them, as the heated pad probably does not release as much heat as it used to.

Cat Trees And Cat Hammocks

My cats love to sit high in the top tier of their cat trees and look out the windows at birds and other animals that may pass by. The cats love to curl up and fall asleep in their cat hammocks with scratching posts. I like sturdy well, constructed cat trees that have carpet on them, as they are also easier to clean with carpet on them.

Fall Health Care

I take my cats to the vet for their shots early in the spring. Suppose your cat has developed a cough or seems to have a cold. Take him to the vet ASAP before it becomes life-threatening. A minor illness can become a significant disease as the weather gets colder and colder. Ensure all your cats are warm and cozy as the colder weather sets in. We all want a happy and healthy cat for our feline friends.

Giving Your Cat Medicine

Giving Your Cat Medicine

Dealing With Cats That Know Its Time For Their Medicine

Your cat will probably try to hide when it sees you coming with its pill. Start giving your cat his pills at a different time every day. If you wait only twenty minutes, your cat may not realize it is time for his medication again. Do not look at your cat before you get his medicine ready. Cats seem excellent mind readers, and it is hard to fox them out. Mix his pills with some tuna canned in water, and he may swallow them right down. Some cats will pick through the food and spit the pill out. Make sure your cat has swallowed his pill before you leave the room. I like to use a pill gun for cats. It looks like a syringe with rubber grips instead of a needle on the end of it. It fits in your cat’s mouth perfectly, and you can push the pill down so he can swallow it easily. Always give your cat treats when they take their medicine without a fuss.

Give Your Cat His Medicine After His Catnap

A cat that just woke up from a nap is not 100 % alert yet; therefore, they are easy to catch. I have had excellent luck giving a liquid cat medicine that has just awakened from a restful and relaxing catnap. Pills are also easier to give to your cat after his nap. Fully alert cats may scratch and bite you to get out of taking their medicine.

Outdoor Cats And Medicine

I had sickly cats come to my farm years ago. You have to grab them from the nape of their neck and ensure you have complete control over them before giving them a shot. I have caught wild cats in a fish net and given them the necessary antibiotics to help them recover. I doctored one cat for an entire winter, and then he went to live at my neighbor’s house. He thought I would escape that mean woman and her wicked syringe, not realizing I had saved his life.

Flea Bath

Most cats hate baths. I adopted a young cat that had fleas. I took her down to my basement, and she had a flea bath shampoo treatment with warm water in a baby tub. I had to hold her just right so she could not claw me up with her claws. I had her by the nape of her neck while I held down her back end so she could not wiggle out of my control and harm me. She looked like a different cat after her bath. She was a very loving cat and my house cat for 18 years. They now make a net bag that contains your cat except for his head which sticks out of the mesh bag. I would recommend one of these for bathing your cat, trimming his claws, and giving medicine to difficult cats, no matter how easy you try to make it for your cat. Some cats do not realize we are trying to help them feel better. We will do anything for the health of our dear feline friends.

The Curious Cat

The Curious Cat

Adventurous Cats

I have had farm cats take off for several months or years, and then they returned home again. I had adopted a new farm cat, and she investigated my neighbors. She returned home after she had been gone for about one month. I had one cat climb to the top of the barn roof, and she stayed there for two days before returning to lower ground. One of my cats got too adventurous, but he did live to tell his tale. He must have been watching the grain go into the hopper of the drill and decided to jump into the grain. The training was very long, and up and up he went before getting dumped into the grain truck. My Father took the grain to our local elevator, and out came my cat. He swayed back and forth for a while before the man at the elevator caught him and placed him back into the empty grain truck. When my Father arrived home, he said to open the gate on the grain wagon, and out came my cat in one piece, luckily. He had much to discuss that night with my other farm cats.

The Wrong Kind Of Car Rides

I once had a cat ride to my local college on my car’s gas tank. I did not know he was there when I took off. Luckily I walked past my car before my last three classes for the day. He was sitting on top of one of the car tires. I asked the lady in the office for a box, and she asked what you needed it for. When I told her about my cat, she thought I was crazy. I did get the package I needed, and he stayed in the box except for my last class. I saw him looking out of the back window at me. He was content, and it was only sixty degrees out that day. He was happy when he returned home. I was glad he did not venture away from the car to get back home.

Traps

One of my poor outdoor cats got caught in a trap for muskrats. The trapper told us about it. He came home with only three legs. He managed to get around on the farm OK and lived to middle age.

Things To Check So Your Curious Cat Will Not Die

Check under your car tires, as many cats have been run over. One time a neighbor ran over four of my beautiful little kittens all at once since there was one on each tire. I was heartbroken as I had to bury all four of the beautiful little kittens. Ensure your cat is not locked in a building or room where it could starve to death. Keep lids closed on appliances, as a kitty could knock the top down if he jumped into the machine and died in the device since he could not get out with the lid shut. Check the motor area of your car, as the vehicle’s motor has killed many cats. Have paints, poisons, cleaning products, oil, and grease, and freeze in a protected area your cat cannot get into. God bless and protect our curious feline friends.

Indoor And Outdoor Cat

Indoor And Outdoor Cat

What To Do If You Have An Indoor And Outdoor Cat

Ensure your cat has been treated so she will not bring fleas into your home. Fleas are very uncomfortable for you and your cat. To rid your home of a flea infestation will be very costly. Watch your cat at all times as they could be run over by a car, or they may eat some poison that a neighbor has in their yard to control pests that probably would kill your cat if ingested. Never just put your indoor outdoor cat outside and think they can fend for themselves. Please do not rely on a cat harness to keep your cat under your control, as some cats can slip it right off their neck without you hardly noticing. A neighbor may think your cat is homeless and call the pound, and your cat could be put to sleep at the pound. Someone may catch your cat and treat your cat poorly. Cat is very much like a young child as they like to run and play and are unaware of all the dangers that could await them.

Have An Enclosed Area That Your Cat Can Be Safe In Outdoors

I have a cat playpen that I set up, and I keep it f the grass so bugs, fleas, and insects will not bother my cats while they enjoy the great outdoors. Some people build a window boxes for their cats. Cats seem to enjoy being in the window box and watching birds land on the TV and breathing in the outdoor air; They also sell cloth tubing that zips together that you can place outdoors, and your cats can get a lot of exercise running through the tubing.

My Cat Cali Is An Indoor Outdoor Cat

Cali gets very moody or pouts when I do not let her outdoors. She does not get to go outdoors if farmers spray the fields, planting, chisel plowing, or harvesting the crops. She could run in front of the equipment before I could stop her, and she would be killed instantly or in excruciating pain. I let Cali out when I see no one around and watch her like a chicken hawk. In winter, Cali wears a hooded coat when she ventures out. She likes to run around in the snow and do somersaults on the warm cement sidewalk after the sun has warmed it up. Cali loves to eat grass when I let her outdoors, and she likes to roll around on the sidewalk and the dry garden dirt. A cat’s dirt bath removes the extra oils in its hair and helps them look better in the long run.

My Cat Maggie

Maggie used to be an outdoor cat when she was young. Maggie likes to go outdoors and eat grass and stays right by the door, so she runs directly into the house when I open it. Once in a great while, she will see what Cali is up to, but she does not follow her. Protect your cat from harm and never leave them unattended because you do not know what might become of your Dear pet cat if they are not under your watchful and loving care.

Cat Help Tips

Cat Help Tips

Putting Your Cat In A Pet Carrier

Never stick your cat’s head in the carrier first; he will likely bite or scratch you. Trim your cat’s claws before putting him in a carrier. Put your cat’s buttocks on the page first for a fast and safe loading experience. Give your cat a cat treat once he is in the carrier safely so he thinks of the page as a place to go where he will be rewarded.

Taking Your Cat For A Ride In Your Car

Place him in a pet carrier, as he may be frightened to ride in your car. Some cats have gotten down by the brake in the vehicle, almost making it impossible for you to stop your vehicle in a hurry safely. Your cat may be climbing all over you, distracting your eyes from the road. I had an older Siamese cat trained to sit on one’s lap in the car. She sat on my lap and was perfectly behaved. I adopted her when she was eight years old. Take your cat for a ride as a young kitten so she will get used to the car rides.

Why Did My Cat Wet On That

Some cats will wet on a stranger’s clothing in your home. They may not like the newcomer in your home, which is their way of showing disapproval. Cats do not like changes at all. If you switch to a new kitty litter, ensure you still have the old brand out, as they might refuse to use the new brand of litter. If you do not change your kitty litter often enough, they may use your house plant for their litter box. A female cat may wet something because you decided to add another female cat to your household. Toms spray furniture if they smell a female cat in the season to mark their territory.

Overeating

Some cats may eat so fast that they may vomit later on. Cats can be nighttime eaters and will pack on the pounds then. Take their food away from them at night and put it back for them first thing in the morning. Buy cat food for weight control and senior cat food for your older cat. Cut down on cat snacks and treats.

Some Cats Do Not Like To Be Held

I have discovered over the years that female cats do not want to be held or petted on the head for long. Male cats are very tolerant of being stored and rubbed most of the time; Feral cats seem never to like being kept unless they jump on your lap on their own. Never force a cat to let you have or pet them, as they will become less tolerant.

Feral Or Scared Cats

Let a feral or scared house cat come when they choose to go to you. Feed them cat treats and talk gently to them. It could take six months, but they will eventually warm up to you. One of my cats finally trusted me enough to sleep at the foot of my bed at night and let me hold him and pat him on the head. Trust has to be earned between you and your cat.

Asthma In Cats

Asthma In Cats

Asthma can be deadly if it is left untreated in your cat. Your cat’s airway can constrict so much that he may stop breathing. Your pet cat can breathe through his mouth if his nostrils get plugged in because of respiratory issues. Take your cat to your local veterinarian for a complete exam to find out your cat’s diagnosis ASAP.

Cats can have a terrible cough that sounds like they are coming down with pneumonia. Your cat may start vomiting every day. Your cat may make a horrible distressing sound, like he is in horrific pain right before coughing loudly. When your seemingly healthy cat presents odd symptoms, take him to your vet for blood work until you get to the root of the problem.

Cats can get so stressed that they develop Asthma. Some cats get an asthmatic attack from dust, scented or dusty cat litter, perfume, smoke, mold, stress, and a dry house in winter. If you start using a new scented cat litter, you should stop using it. Some cat litters have so much dust that it can cause an asthmatic attack. Strange people in your house, such as a repairman, could cause an asthmatic attack in your feline friend. Never smoke around a cat with Asthma.

Have a place where your cat can rest and relax that is peaceful and quiet. Your vet will most likely give your cat a steroid shot that helps open your cat’s airway, making it comfortable for him to breathe. Steroid shots last 4 to 6 weeks before your cat gets another shot. Asthmatic inhalers for people also help cats. It would be best to buy a mask for your cat that the inhaler fits into. Keep your home at a pleasantly warm temperature. Cold air can make it harder for your cat to breathe.

A new cat food could cause an asthmatic attack. If our house is dirty or moldy due to flooding, have your house professionally cleaned for your cat’s overall health along with your health and well-being. You probably should have the vent work on your furnace cleaned out. Always be attentive to any new issues your cat may have with breathing. Your cat depends on you and your vet for his overall health. Good health to you and your feline friend.

Cats And Christmas Trees And Decorations Decorations And More

Cats And Christmas Trees, Decorations And More

Cats And Your Christmas Tree

If you put up a live tree, make sure you do not mix a powder with water to help preserve your tree. Cats have been known to drink the water under your live tree, and the water may kill your cat, or he will be very sick for a long time. Cats love to climb trees; your tree will fall to the groundbreaking decorations and make a big mess. Some cats may try to eat the pine needles, which will lodge in their intestines and cause a blockage. Vacuum up any fallen needles immediately to prevent that from happening to your cat. Pine tree needles can be fatal and cause liver damage to your pet cat. Ensure you cover up the water under your live tree so your cat cannot drink the toxic water. I prefer artificial trees, but cats can still knock them over. I like small ceramic trees that are molded with decorations, and they have internal lights that cannot cause any damage to your cat.

Cats And Decorations

Never put tinsel on your Christmas tree. Your cat may choke or have intestinal distress from eating and chewing on tinsel. If your cat chews on your Christmas tree lights, he can be badly burned or electrocuted. Broken glass and ornaments, and metal hangers can injure your cat. The fewer the decorations on your tree, the better off you and your cat will be. I like using plastic, cloth, or felt ornaments on a tree as these should be safe if your cat takes them off of your tree. I had a glass ornament fall off a tree once, which shattered into many small pieces before I had cats. If a cat eats a tree bulb that you had out to replace one when it burned out, your cat could die from the cuts; the bulb would cause going down his throat. Be extra cautious with tree decorations and lights if you must use them, and have a Dear beloved pet cat. You don’t want a Christmas without your cat because the decorations or lights killed him.

Christmas Packages

Do not put fancy ribbons on your packages under the tree as your cat could swallow the ribbon, and it can get stuck in their stomach and intestines; they will need immediate attention, Do not tie yarn on any packages as it can get stuck in the back of the throat or inhaled. If your cat gets wrapped up in wool, he could lose his blood supply to that body part. Be very careful of anything bright and shiny that you may put on your package, as cats are attracted to bright shiny objects that may cause permanent harm or death.

Christmas Toys For Your Cat

When buying toys for your cat, make sure they are large enough so your cat cannot swallow them. Please do not give your cat any toy with a battery in it as your cat may chew on it and get battery acid in its system that will cause corrosive damage as they are toxic to your cat. Some cat toys come with batteries in them that are pet approved. Give your cat toys that are meant for cats. Some cats like to play with sponges and empty toilet paper rolls, which is fine unless your cat starts to eat the sponge. If your cat eats plastic, it must be removed by you. He will need surgery if you cannot remove the plastic from your cat. I hope you and your cat have a safe, healthy, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Everyday Household Cleaners That Could Kill Your Cat

Everyday Household Cleaners And More That Could Kill Your Cat

Bathroom Cleaners

Toilet bowl cleaner can kill your cat, or place reliable cleaners in your tank that dissolve and keep the tank and toilet clean. I never put any reliable cleaners in my toilet tank as my cat may decide to take a drink out of the bathroom. When I clean my toilet, I always close the lid until I have scrubbed out the tank and flush the toilet several times. Never leave toilet bowl cleaner in your tank, as your cat may drink it and die from ingesting it. When using bathroom cleaners and scrubbing pads, ensure your cat does not get any on their paws or lick any of the cleaners, as this could kill them.

Floor Cleaners

When using floor cleaners, keep an eye on your cleaning bucket and ensure your cat does not take a drink from the bucket. Carpet cleaners can be toxic to cats if they step on wet carpets and lick their paws. Floor polish could end up on your cat’s paws if you let them in the room before the polish is fully dry. Do not put aromatic carpet powder on your carpet as your cat may be attracted to the scent, and start licking your carpet as this may end up killing your cat.

Maintenance Sprays or Oil

If you use oil to lubricate your treadmill or spray oil on the locks on your doors so they work better, clean up any spilled oil so your cat cannot ingest any of it. If you put oil on your furniture to help preserve the wood, wipe off any excess fat with a cloth. Oil can be very toxic to cats.

Laundry Products And Oven Cleaners

Laundry soap and fabric softener can be fatal if your cat licks or swallows. Laundry pods can be dangerous as your cat may think they are a toy. If your cat bites into a laundry pod, it could be fatal. Oven cleaner fumes can be toxic to humans as well as to pets.

Paints And Varnishes

Your cat could lick the paint, thinking it was good, such as yogurt. Cats can get their tails and their feet in the paint or varnish. Try to keep your cat out of your work area if possible. Keep a close eye on your cat at all times. The moment you may turn your back while working is when your cat may be poisoned.

Mouse Poison, Fertilizer, Weed Killer, And Insect Killer

Place mouse poison in a sealed container that nothing else can get into. Take pets out of your home if you have your house fumigated. Do not put granules outside your home to kill insects if you let your cat outdoors, as your cat might think the granules are a cat snack. Keep all your lawn fertilizers, weed killers, and garden sprays in a safe area your cat cannot access.

Keep Your Cat Safe From Household Cleaners And Chemicals And More

Store all cleaners, chemicals, oil, fertilizer, weed killer, poisons, paints, and more in an area your cat cannot get into. Keep an eye on your cat if you work with any of these. Keep your cat out of your work area. If you suspect that your cat has been poisoned, call your vet ASAP. Go to the closest vet in your area, as time is of the essence, as a few extra minutes could be the difference between life and death for your beloved cat. I hope you and your cat have many beautiful and memorable years together.

My Two Asthmatic House Cats

My Two Asthmatic House Cats

Kohl and Conrad Are Half Brothers

I read that Himalayan And Siamese cats are more prone to asthma than other breeds. Kohl and Conrad have Siamese, Himalayan, and domestic short hair in their DNA makeup. The article I read said that female cats are more likely to have asthma than males. Kohl and Conrad are neutered Tom’s.

Kohl’s Asthma

Kohl would snore loudly at night, and he would also sneeze on you. We started giving him antibiotics which seemed to help him for about two months, and then he would have the same old symptoms again. He started life with an upper respiratory infection as a tiny kitten. His Mother was very young, and he would have died if I had not had him as a house cat. I had to feed him PediaSure for one month; otherwise, he would not have survived. Kohl is now 12 years old. He hasid shots to control his asthmatic attacks and is ng OK now.

Conrad’s Asthma

Conrad’s asthma started quickly. He started out sleeping more and not having any energy. He would lay on his back with his feet up in the air. Conrad had lost interest in playing with his toys and just wanted to rest all the time. I looked at his breathing one day, and I noticed his lungs were moving up and down very rapidly. I could tell he was having labored breathing. I called my vet ASAP, and he looked Conrad over and said he had asthma. He gave Conrad a steroid shot, and he was breathing perfectly in the morning.

How You Can Treat Asthma In Cats

If you have a naturally gentle cat that will put up with anything, you can put a breathing mask on your cat and use an inhaler on him. I know my cats would freak out if I tried to put a show on their face, so I chose the only other option, the steroid shot.

Long-Term Effects Of Steroid Shots

Steroid shots can cause heart trouble, muscle weakness, diabetes, and more when used for a long-term illness. My vet said not to give my cats more steroid shots than necessary. He said to watch them closely and only bring them in for another steroid shot when they are having trouble breathing. The steroid shots should last 6 to 8 weeks before another attempt is necessary. I hope your cats can live more accessible with this knowledge, as you will know what to look for if your cat has any breathing issues.

Cat Allergies

Cat Allergies

You may be allergic to cat dander. Bathe your cat to eliminate dandruff on his fur, and you will feel much better. People may have itchy and watery eyes because they are allergic to cats. If you still want a house cat even though you are allergic to them, it helps not to let them sleep in your bed with you at night. Brush your cat’s hair out often, removing some of the cat dander quickly and painlessly. Vacuum your carpet often to remove hair and debris from your carpet. Clean your drapes and furniture often also. Keep your cat litter boxes clean, as you may be allergic to the smell of cat urine. Clean and wash your clothes often, as cat hair can stick to your clothing. People with asthma and hyperactive immune systems seem to be allergic to cats.

Cats can be allergic to mold, pollen, smoke, specific cat food brands, dusty or scented cat litter, parasites, plants and grass, rubber products, pesticides, and perfume. One day, I was working with my burn pile, and my cats sneezed that night. Certain brands of smell will make my cats sneeze. My cats sneeze when I use highly-scented cat litter. Sometimes my cats will clean each other, and then they will start sneezing. Cats are allergic to cleaning products, flea treatments, fabrics, and plastic food bowls.

Clean your pet’s bedding regularly to help eliminate allergens that your cats can share. Clean your cat’s water and food bowls often. Close your windows so allergens cannot reach your pet cats outdoors. Cats can sneeze and have watery eyes, and cough. I purchased some natural sinus spray for my cat Kohl, which seemed to help him. I have given my cats vitamins and supplements that help them with various problems. Your cat may need antibiotics if it is an ongoing occurrence that never improves, as it may be a bacterial infection instead of allergies. If your cat’s symptoms worsen, take him to your Vet ASAP. I hope you and your cat recover quickly from any allergies.
