Cats never Miss An Opportunity

Cats Never Miss An Opportunity

Escape Methods

Cats are always by the door when you are going somewhere. They were great escape artists who were just as good as the Great Houdini. Your cat can slip out of your door at lightning speed. If you have two entries on your entrance door and keep, one closed chance is, they will not escape. A home with one door is a problem as they can slip by entirely unnoticed. Be careful taking groceries into your home and put a sign on your door to let people that visit watch out for your escape artist cat. You could put a cat treat out before you leave; they will eat that and be occupied and happy to be indoors.

Slipping Out Of Your Arms As You Try To Put Them In A Pet Carrier

Cats know that pet carriers generally are what they go in on their way to the Vet. Cats become contortionists when it comes time to wiggle and maneuver out of something. I always put their hind legs in first, and not many have escaped from the carrier with that method. I had one cat that learned how to unzip her carrier bag. I put a safety pin between the two Zip pulls, and she could not figure out how to defeat that.

Cat Treats

Some cats will eat ravingly fast, so they can eat up all the cat treats that are put out for your cats. I put the treats out for each cat and watch them, so everyone gets a yummy treat. I have a cat treat ball, and one of my cats is very intelligent, and he gets the treats out ASAP. Other cats’ treat balls are more manageable than I use for my other cats. Some of my cats have finally mastered the rugged treat dispenser by watching my smart kitty.

Get The Other Cat In Trouble

I had a young female cat that would yowl and scream in cat language when my old male cat would enter the room. He was swatting at her when I entered the room. One day I saw who the actual aggressor was. My female cat beat him terribly, and I told her the jig was up. My older female cat got my young male cat in trouble. The Christmas tree had been knocked over, and I blamed the newcomer. My female cat knew I would not think it was her as she had not done anything like that before. I saw her trying to knock over the tree again since it had worked so well for her earlier.

Vying For Your Attention

Cats love to compete with each other. If we had a penny for our cat’s thoughts, all of us would be millionaires. Cats sit on your lap, bite the other house cat, and have your lap all to themselves. Cats love to cause a raucous when you’re on the phone as they get your attention. I ignore their antics when I am talking on the phone. We love the attention we get from our cats and love them no matter what opportunity they have to cause us a little extra work or worry. God bless our feline friends for the love, happiness, and joy they bring daily.

Some Cat Problems

Some Cat Problems

Constant Grooming Beyond What Is Normal

Some cats will lick themselves until they have a bald spot or spots. Some cats are lonely or bored lick themselves beyond the ordinary for something to occupy their time. Have games and toys for your cat to play with so boredom does not sink in for your overall cat’s health and mental well-being. If your cat keeps licking their behind, it may have a urinary tract infection or worms that your vet should treat ASAP. A cat with fleas will clean and clean itself and itch itself until they remove some hair or have raw spots that could get infected. Take your cat to your Vet to get treated for fleas and have your home cleaned by a professional pest person, as fleas multiply very fast and will bite you to pieces.

Teeth And Your Cats Health

Have your cat’s teeth checked and cleaned when your Vet tells you your cat’s teeth need cleaning to prevent significant health problems. A cat may roll his tongue around in his mouth if he has a bad tooth or stops eating his usual amount of cat food and loses weight rapidly. Bad teeth can affect your cat’s heart and brain. A cat with bad teeth will not live long if not cared for properly. Help your cat keep its pearly whites in good form.

Too Many Cats In Your Home

Each cat in your home should have 1.5 litter boxes per cat. Cats do not like to share their litter boxes with too many cats. Your cat may do his business outside his litter box if he deems it not clean enough. Humans also like clean restrooms, or we may drive down the road looking for one. Clean your litter box out entirely and put all fresh litter in it often, and you and your cat will be happy with a clean and nice-smelling litter box.

Cats And Anxiety

Cats can get nervous when we go on a vacation and leave them. They may be afraid of the person caring for them and will not eat as much as usual. They may knock some things off a shelf because they are upset that you left them. Some anxious cats have eaten some of their wool cat toys or blankets, so do not leave these items out if you will be gone for a while. Never leave string toys out, as your cat could swallow the string and die from it, as it could cause a blockage in their digestive system. Anxious cats will hide if they sense a storm is coming, and they meow and yowl loudly. All of my house cats are excellent weather predictors. If a stranger comes into your home, your cat may pee on his clothes because he is upset with a new person in the house, and cats do not like any changes to their daily routines. One woman had a new boyfriend, and every time he would try to kiss her, her cat would hiss and growl and try to bite him. Her cat finally grew accustomed to him because he would pat the cat gently and talk to him in a calm voice. Remember, your feline friend is doing his best to please you. I hope you and your cats can live anxiety-free lives.

Treating Your Ailing cat

Treating Your Ailing Cat

Cats With Kidney Disease

My house cat Cali has mild kidney disease. Once a week, I give her a lactate ringer injection which helps her eliminate the waste from her kidneys. She absorbs the lactate through her skin which goes into her bloodstream and therefore helps filter her kidneys of garbage. Cali puts up with this treatment exceptionally well and seems to hold her own. I give her the food of her choice since she refuses to eat kidney function cat food. Wet food is necessary to help keep her hydrated. She loves Hartz delectables squeeze up moist cat food and their bisque varieties of chicken or tuna. I also make sure she has plenty of fresh water available at all times to drink. Eventually, your cat with kidney disease will keep losing weight and constantly vomiting their food. Unfortunately, this is when you should have them put to sleep so they do not have to suffer.

Cats With Asthma

My cat Conrad has asthma and needs his inhaler when there is lots of pollen or dust in the air. He can get by for months sometimes with no inhaler at all. When pollen is in the air, he starts coughing and cannot stop until he gets a puff out of his inhaler. He has learned to accept the inhaler, which helps his breathing.

Be Careful Handling Your Sick Cat

If your cat feels very bad, he may try to bite you because he is in a lot of pain. Hang onto your cat by the Nap of their neck and place the rear end first into their pet carrier. Cats that do not see the cage will go into it much easier than a cat that can see it head-on. Put on heavy gloves if your cat tries to bite you so you will not be hurt as much. You can place a cat treat in the cage and hope your cat may walk right in if your cat likes his cat treats. A fish net works well for catching cats as you can grab them by the Nap of their neck in the net. I hope you and your cat arrive at your Vet safely and that your cat has a speedy recovery.

Medicines And Your Cat

I have a pill holder that looks like a syringe that holds pills. With the drug on the end, I push down on the needle, and then my cats get their medicine safely. I also have mixed wet cat food with crushed pills which works sometimes. Cats seem to know when to take treatment, so you must look for them in their favorite hideouts. I put my cat’s ear mite medicine in a small dropper and squeeze it into their ears.

Treating Your Elderly Cat

Cats develop many of the same diseases we get as we age, and they will require more Vet checkups. Most older cats love heated beds or warm blankets to curl up in. Buy more wet cat food for your older cat, which will help keep him hydrated. If your cat has arthritis, buy him some cat medicine for that. Your cat may need some of his teeth pulled so he will not die from heart failure due to decayed teeth. Your cat could get cancer, and you will not want to see it suffer, so you should have them put to sleep so it will die peacefully. Your older cat will have a more challenging time getting around, so consider placing a litter box on the main floor of your home for them. I purchased a ladder that helped my cat get into my bed easier. Take your cat to your Vet if you notice any unusual behavior ASAP, as you may save their life. Treat your Dear cat with all the love he has shown you over the beautiful years you have had together. May you and your cat age gracefully together.

Wild Animals That Can Kill Your Cat

Wild Animals That Can Kill Your Cat

Skunks And Cats

Years ago, we had a female who loved hunting by a creek close to our place. She would come home with gophers and other small rodents. One day our neighbor saw her in a fight with a skunk by the creek bed. He said she and the skunk had a terrible battle. She came home with a small hunk of her face missing. I put ointment on her face to prevent infection. She recovered pretty quickly, luckily. I was glad she did not get rabies from the skunk and that she survived her terrible ordeal.

Raccoons And Cats

Raccoons and cats will eat side by side and not have any problems at all. If you run out of cat food and the raccoon cannot find anything to eat, he will eat your smaller cats and kittens. Raccoons also carry rabies; your cat could pick up rabies from a raccoon bite.

Wolves, Coyotes, And Cats

Many farm cats and cats that live in mountain areas have been killed and eaten by wolves. Unfortunately, if a wolf spots a cat walking around and he is hungry, your cat will be his lunch. Do not let any house cat loose outdoors unwatched; you may never see your cat alive again.

Foxes And Cats

A fox will kill and eat kittens as it is hard for them to kill an adult cat. One party told me a fox got into a building where his cats were living, and the fox only left the heads of the kittens. Keep facilities in good repair so unwanted critters will not sneak in and kill your cats.

Weasels And Cats

Years ago, when we had barn cats, weasels would come into the barn and kill some of our kittens. The kittens would be perfectly healthy the day before the weasel attack. When a weasel kills a kitten, he sucks all of the blood out of it, and it is flat as a pancake in the morning. I would cry when I saw my little kittens dead.

Squirrels

The squirrel’s sharp teeth and claws can do a lot of damage to your cat. Your cat can also pick up fleas and ticks from the squirrel and other diseases.

Cougars

A cougar will make a quick meal for your cat. The cougar can move very quickly, and your poor cat does not stand a chance of encountering a cougar.

Snakes

Water moccasins and other venomous snakes can kill and eat your cats. Getting your cat to your vet ASAP would be best, or your cat will surely die.

Ground Hogs, Rats And Cats

The Ground Hogs have sharp teeth and claws that can injure your cat terribly. Rat bites can harm your cats, and your cat can pick up diseases from them.

Porcupines

The porcupine’s quills can become embedded in your cat. You must take your cat to your vet ASAP to remove the embedded quills from your cat. It will take your vet hours to remove them safely from your cat.

Domestic Dogs

Dogs have killed many cats over the years. A dog will shake your cat to death just for the sport of it. Many Pitbull dogs have killed cats. Some dogs have killed a cat that they like by accident. This form of play killed the cat because it was the kind of roughhousing they would do with another dog.

Keep An Eye On Your Pets Living Quarters

If your cat seems nervous or upset or stops eating, look over the living quarters for clues that a wild animal may be there. A dirty muddy water dish indicates a raccoon has been coming into your cats’ living quarters. If you find one of your dear pet cats died in the area, put your other cats in your house until you can get rid of the wild animal safely. God bless your cats from predators of all kinds.

The Holidays And Your Cats

The Holidays And Your Cats

Cats Cannot Eat Some People’s Food.

Never let your cat eat chocolate, as chocolate can kill your cat. Turkey bones are not a good idea as a bone may get lodged in your cat’s throat and cause him to die if he cannot cough it up. Never give your cat any alcoholic beverage, as it can kill him quickly. If your cat is not used to eating human food, do not let him have table scraps on the Holidays, as he will become ill and start vomiting in front of your guest. Cats like to eat turkey, squash, or pumpkin. Feed your cat in moderation. If you are unsure about feeding your cat something, do not feed it to him until you have asked your Vet.

Cat Proof Your Home For The Holidays

Do not put Christmas tree preservatives in the water under the tree, as the preservative will kill your cat if he drinks it. If your cat likes to climb your Christmas tree, I suggest you take it down. If the tree topples over, your cat might try to eat a broken decoration or tree light bulbs. Never put tinsel on your tree, as many cats have died over the years by consuming tree tinsel. Do not put up lights that your cat can easily chew. If your cat chews into a cord, he may be electrocuted. Do not put mistletoe or poinsettias in your home. Mistletoe will kill your cat if he eats any of it, and if your cat chews on the poinsettia plant, he will lose his voice for at least one week. Do not leave the ribbon lying around; your cat could choke on it if he tries to swallow some. If you doubt a plant or a tree, do not put it in your home so your cat will have Happy Holiday Memories.

The Best Presents For Cats

Being in a loving and caring home is present with no price tag attached. Cats are like cat treats for the holidays. My cats like a pumpkin-flavored cat treat over the holidays. Buy some canned cat food. I buy chicken, turkey, squash, and various canned foods for my cats. My cats love heated cat beds to curl up in on cold winter nights, even when it is not so hard. I have 12 heated cat beds and three windowsill heated beds. Cats love automatic litter boxes, heated water bowls, and pet feeders. Most all cats love cat toys. My cats like catnip cat toys, squeaking mice, crinkle balls, singing birds, rubber balls, balls with bells in the middle and small animal toys, rubber reptiles, cat treat balls, circle track toys with a mouse or hop in the center of it, rubber frogs and rabbits that have a string that pulls out, and then it dances across the floor. Your cat will have blessed, happy and healthy holidays with your loving care. God bless you and your feline companions.

I have 11 Cats That Live In A House All Of Their Own

I Have 11 Cats That Live In A House Of Their Own

My Cats Get Along With Each Other Beautifully

If you introduce cats correctly to each other, they should become friends rather quickly. I always put the newcomer in the bathroom with his food dish, water, and litter box. My other cats and he can smell each other from under the door. They can growl at each other with the safety of the door separating them. Remember not to pay too much attention to the new cat when your others cats are watching, as they are just like jealous children. Place your new cat in a room with your other cats and observe how they get along. The head of the household male cat will let the new cat know he is in charge. He may growl at him and try to get in a fight with him. Let them work it out if there is just a little spat. If you see that they will have a no-hold-barred fighting, separate your new cat again before you place them all together. They should all live in perfect harmony within a week.

Fall Cleaning Next Door

I wash all of the cat’s towels that they have for bedding. I scrub the floors with Lysol disinfectant cleaner, and I do a thorough cleaning of the house. I clean up all of the food dishes and the water bowl. I wash and clean out the litter robots and the other cat litter boxes. I make sure my heated cat beds, water dish, and electric heater are working. Now is an excellent time to throw out old cat toys or replace beds that have worn out. Order new heated beds now before the prices go up. I stock up on kitty litter and ensure I have plenty of cat food and treats. Wash your cat toys and beds that are washable. Once your heated cat beds are seven years old, replace them, as the heated pad probably does not release as much heat as it used to.

Cat Trees And Cat Hammocks

My cats love to sit high in the top tier of their cat trees and look out the windows at birds and other animals that may pass by. The cats love to curl up and fall asleep in their cat hammocks with scratching posts. I like sturdy well, constructed cat trees that have carpet on them, as they are also easier to clean with carpet on them.

Fall Health Care

I take my cats to the vet for their shots early in the spring. Suppose your cat has developed a cough or seems to have a cold. Take him to the vet ASAP before it becomes life-threatening. A minor illness can become a significant disease as the weather gets colder and colder. Ensure all your cats are warm and cozy as the colder weather sets in. We all want a happy and healthy cat for our feline friends.

Giving Your Cat Medicine

Giving Your Cat Medicine

Dealing With Cats That Know Its Time For Their Medicine

Your cat will probably try to hide when it sees you coming with its pill. Start giving your cat his pills at a different time every day. If you wait only twenty minutes, your cat may not realize it is time for his medication again. Do not look at your cat before you get his medicine ready. Cats seem excellent mind readers, and it is hard to fox them out. Mix his pills with some tuna canned in water, and he may swallow them right down. Some cats will pick through the food and spit the pill out. Make sure your cat has swallowed his pill before you leave the room. I like to use a pill gun for cats. It looks like a syringe with rubber grips instead of a needle on the end of it. It fits in your cat’s mouth perfectly, and you can push the pill down so he can swallow it easily. Always give your cat treats when they take their medicine without a fuss.

Give Your Cat His Medicine After His Catnap

A cat that just woke up from a nap is not 100 % alert yet; therefore, they are easy to catch. I have had excellent luck giving a liquid cat medicine that has just awakened from a restful and relaxing catnap. Pills are also easier to give to your cat after his nap. Fully alert cats may scratch and bite you to get out of taking their medicine.

Outdoor Cats And Medicine

I had sickly cats come to my farm years ago. You have to grab them from the nape of their neck and ensure you have complete control over them before giving them a shot. I have caught wild cats in a fish net and given them the necessary antibiotics to help them recover. I doctored one cat for an entire winter, and then he went to live at my neighbor’s house. He thought I would escape that mean woman and her wicked syringe, not realizing I had saved his life.

Flea Bath

Most cats hate baths. I adopted a young cat that had fleas. I took her down to my basement, and she had a flea bath shampoo treatment with warm water in a baby tub. I had to hold her just right so she could not claw me up with her claws. I had her by the nape of her neck while I held down her back end so she could not wiggle out of my control and harm me. She looked like a different cat after her bath. She was a very loving cat and my house cat for 18 years. They now make a net bag that contains your cat except for his head which sticks out of the mesh bag. I would recommend one of these for bathing your cat, trimming his claws, and giving medicine to difficult cats, no matter how easy you try to make it for your cat. Some cats do not realize we are trying to help them feel better. We will do anything for the health of our dear feline friends.

The Curious Cat

The Curious Cat

Adventurous Cats

I have had farm cats take off for several months or years, and then they returned home again. I had adopted a new farm cat, and she investigated my neighbors. She returned home after she had been gone for about one month. I had one cat climb to the top of the barn roof, and she stayed there for two days before returning to lower ground. One of my cats got too adventurous, but he did live to tell his tale. He must have been watching the grain go into the hopper of the drill and decided to jump into the grain. The training was very long, and up and up he went before getting dumped into the grain truck. My Father took the grain to our local elevator, and out came my cat. He swayed back and forth for a while before the man at the elevator caught him and placed him back into the empty grain truck. When my Father arrived home, he said to open the gate on the grain wagon, and out came my cat in one piece, luckily. He had much to discuss that night with my other farm cats.

The Wrong Kind Of Car Rides

I once had a cat ride to my local college on my car’s gas tank. I did not know he was there when I took off. Luckily I walked past my car before my last three classes for the day. He was sitting on top of one of the car tires. I asked the lady in the office for a box, and she asked what you needed it for. When I told her about my cat, she thought I was crazy. I did get the package I needed, and he stayed in the box except for my last class. I saw him looking out of the back window at me. He was content, and it was only sixty degrees out that day. He was happy when he returned home. I was glad he did not venture away from the car to get back home.

Traps

One of my poor outdoor cats got caught in a trap for muskrats. The trapper told us about it. He came home with only three legs. He managed to get around on the farm OK and lived to middle age.

Things To Check So Your Curious Cat Will Not Die

Check under your car tires, as many cats have been run over. One time a neighbor ran over four of my beautiful little kittens all at once since there was one on each tire. I was heartbroken as I had to bury all four of the beautiful little kittens. Ensure your cat is not locked in a building or room where it could starve to death. Keep lids closed on appliances, as a kitty could knock the top down if he jumped into the machine and died in the device since he could not get out with the lid shut. Check the motor area of your car, as the vehicle’s motor has killed many cats. Have paints, poisons, cleaning products, oil, and grease, and freeze in a protected area your cat cannot get into. God bless and protect our curious feline friends.

Indoor And Outdoor Cat

Indoor And Outdoor Cat

What To Do If You Have An Indoor And Outdoor Cat

Ensure your cat has been treated so she will not bring fleas into your home. Fleas are very uncomfortable for you and your cat. To rid your home of a flea infestation will be very costly. Watch your cat at all times as they could be run over by a car, or they may eat some poison that a neighbor has in their yard to control pests that probably would kill your cat if ingested. Never just put your indoor outdoor cat outside and think they can fend for themselves. Please do not rely on a cat harness to keep your cat under your control, as some cats can slip it right off their neck without you hardly noticing. A neighbor may think your cat is homeless and call the pound, and your cat could be put to sleep at the pound. Someone may catch your cat and treat your cat poorly. Cat is very much like a young child as they like to run and play and are unaware of all the dangers that could await them.

Have An Enclosed Area That Your Cat Can Be Safe In Outdoors

I have a cat playpen that I set up, and I keep it f the grass so bugs, fleas, and insects will not bother my cats while they enjoy the great outdoors. Some people build a window boxes for their cats. Cats seem to enjoy being in the window box and watching birds land on the TV and breathing in the outdoor air; They also sell cloth tubing that zips together that you can place outdoors, and your cats can get a lot of exercise running through the tubing.

My Cat Cali Is An Indoor Outdoor Cat

Cali gets very moody or pouts when I do not let her outdoors. She does not get to go outdoors if farmers spray the fields, planting, chisel plowing, or harvesting the crops. She could run in front of the equipment before I could stop her, and she would be killed instantly or in excruciating pain. I let Cali out when I see no one around and watch her like a chicken hawk. In winter, Cali wears a hooded coat when she ventures out. She likes to run around in the snow and do somersaults on the warm cement sidewalk after the sun has warmed it up. Cali loves to eat grass when I let her outdoors, and she likes to roll around on the sidewalk and the dry garden dirt. A cat’s dirt bath removes the extra oils in its hair and helps them look better in the long run.

My Cat Maggie

Maggie used to be an outdoor cat when she was young. Maggie likes to go outdoors and eat grass and stays right by the door, so she runs directly into the house when I open it. Once in a great while, she will see what Cali is up to, but she does not follow her. Protect your cat from harm and never leave them unattended because you do not know what might become of your Dear pet cat if they are not under your watchful and loving care.

Cat Help Tips

Cat Help Tips

Putting Your Cat In A Pet Carrier

Never stick your cat’s head in the carrier first; he will likely bite or scratch you. Trim your cat’s claws before putting him in a carrier. Put your cat’s buttocks on the page first for a fast and safe loading experience. Give your cat a cat treat once he is in the carrier safely so he thinks of the page as a place to go where he will be rewarded.

Taking Your Cat For A Ride In Your Car

Place him in a pet carrier, as he may be frightened to ride in your car. Some cats have gotten down by the brake in the vehicle, almost making it impossible for you to stop your vehicle in a hurry safely. Your cat may be climbing all over you, distracting your eyes from the road. I had an older Siamese cat trained to sit on one’s lap in the car. She sat on my lap and was perfectly behaved. I adopted her when she was eight years old. Take your cat for a ride as a young kitten so she will get used to the car rides.

Why Did My Cat Wet On That

Some cats will wet on a stranger’s clothing in your home. They may not like the newcomer in your home, which is their way of showing disapproval. Cats do not like changes at all. If you switch to a new kitty litter, ensure you still have the old brand out, as they might refuse to use the new brand of litter. If you do not change your kitty litter often enough, they may use your house plant for their litter box. A female cat may wet something because you decided to add another female cat to your household. Toms spray furniture if they smell a female cat in the season to mark their territory.

Overeating

Some cats may eat so fast that they may vomit later on. Cats can be nighttime eaters and will pack on the pounds then. Take their food away from them at night and put it back for them first thing in the morning. Buy cat food for weight control and senior cat food for your older cat. Cut down on cat snacks and treats.

Some Cats Do Not Like To Be Held

I have discovered over the years that female cats do not want to be held or petted on the head for long. Male cats are very tolerant of being stored and rubbed most of the time; Feral cats seem never to like being kept unless they jump on your lap on their own. Never force a cat to let you have or pet them, as they will become less tolerant.

Feral Or Scared Cats

Let a feral or scared house cat come when they choose to go to you. Feed them cat treats and talk gently to them. It could take six months, but they will eventually warm up to you. One of my cats finally trusted me enough to sleep at the foot of my bed at night and let me hold him and pat him on the head. Trust has to be earned between you and your cat.
