Life With Cats In Your Home

I Had My First House Cat When I Was Sixteen

My first housecat was an 8-year-old purebred Siamese cat that we adopted. Her name was Sugar, but she did not live up to it. She would occasionally get into trouble. Once she chewed the entire corner off of our Road Atlas, and she chewed up my Mothers genealogy papers. I loved Sugar dearly, even with the characteristics that all Simese cats seem to have. She was a Seal Point Siamese cat. She loved to lie on my lap, but at a certain point, she would give me an evil look. I had to set her on the floor as she would stare at my face as if she were in attack mode. She dearly loved our pet parakeet, Perry. She would lie down next to where he was, and his singing would lull her to sleep. She loved to play with any sponge that she could find. She ran into the field one day, and luckily, my Mother spotted her in an area where no crops were growing. I put her back in our house, and luckily, she never did that again. She lived to be 16 before breast cancer set in, and I had to have her put to sleep.

Ginger Was A Chocolate Point Siamese Cat

She was a very gentle and loving cat, always by my side. She got along fine with cats except female cats. She lived to be eighteen before I had to put her to sleep. She kept me safe from a bat that had gotten into our home while our house was undergoing new shingles installation. She chased it down until I could remove it.

Philmoor

Philmoor was a cream colored tuxedo cat. He was exceptionally friendly, and he would sleep next to me every night. He would purr away contentedly, and he got along fine with my older cats. I found him in a Perkins parking lot. He got liver cancer, and I had to put him to sleep at the age of ten.

I Adopted A Ginger Cat Named Red

Our veterinarian gave Red to me when Sugar died. He had found Red wandering around on a golf course in the winter. Red was a brilliant cat, and he quickly learned to play a cat ball game. He was energetic and wanted to make sure you watched him, knowing he was a master at that game.

Sebastian, Kohl, And Conrad Where Born On My Farm

They were black cats, as I have always loved them because they seem to have a pleasant disposition. Sebastian was an outdoor cat to begin with, but one cold day, he sat by the door and looked at me with his adoring eyes, as if to say, “I will make an excellent housecat for you.” I gave him a warm bath that night and dried him off while he settled in. That evening, he rounded up every toy mouse in the house and had them all lined up in a row.

Kohl

Kohl was a sickly kitten, so I let him in the house. He had the most pleasant disposition of any cat I have ever had. Kohl was a wonderful lap cat, and he got along well with all of my other cats. he was a smart cat and figured out games quickly. Kohl got cancer, and I had him put to sleep.

Conrad Was Born In An Outdoor Cat Building

He became my housecat when he was almost one year old. he would drown any mouse that might happen to get in the water bowl. I threw out the mouse, and he had a fresh, clean water bowl to drink from. He could figure out any treat ball or toy in a matter of seconds.

I Have Cali, Garfunkel, And Milton Now

Garfunkel is a sweet and loving gentleman cat, and Cali is very affectionate and sweet. Milton treats my elder cats with respect and care. Milton deowns mice in the water bowl just like Conrad used to. Cali is still very active and enjoys playing with her cat toys. Gearfunkel is always next to me. I love all of my cats dearly. Cats bring joy to our lives, and it has been proven that people with cats live longer. Cats help keep blood pressure down and provide many other health benefits. God bless all of our feline family with good health for many years to come.

Cats Interactions

Cats And Other Animals

I have had cats become good friends with small rodents, dogs, birds, and a goat. One of my cats was friends with a small dog and a goat. They would go on hunting parties together. The goat would exit the group, go to the field, and eat any ear corn he might find that missed the combine. My cat and dog would hunt the ditches for mice. Our little dog would babysit my cat’s kittens that she had in the dog house. The group remained friends to the end of their days on Earth. I had an older Siamese cat raised with birds in the home from which I adopted her. She would listen to our pet parakeet singing to her every morning. She was very sad and depressed when he died as she would lie on the bed and look where he and his cage used to be. I have seen cats become friends with horses and chickens. One cat jumped on the horse’s back every morning for a short ride through the farmyard. A large chicken would leave her chicks with the cat, and the cat kept the chicks warm until the Mother hen returned.

Cats And A New Cat In Your Home

Cat introductions should be made slowly so the cats can get along. Put the new cat in your bathroom, where your cat can get used to the smell of the latest cat and vice versa. Put food, water, and a litterbox in your bathroom. Pat your cat very often and the new cat just slightly to prevent the nasty green monster jealousy. Give both cats cat treats, talk gently to both of them, and never yell or scream or use a loud tone of any kind, or they will become frightened of you and take out their frustration on each other. Make sure you have plenty of toys for both cats and several new toys that do not have your cat’s scent. Both of your cats should be able to live in perfect harmony if no one is ignored, both are loved, and their needs are attended to.

People In Your Home

If someone starts living in your home, your cat may not approve of them. Your cat may scratch them or urinate on their clothes to show its disapproval. Bring some of the person’s things into your home before you bring them into your home, and that way, your cat will feel comfortable with the new smell of that person in your home—none of us like surprises with no time for preparation. If someone came to your home for a meal on Sunday and you did not know about it, you would be upset because you may not have much food then. Your cat does not like sudden changes, as all cats hate any changes to their daily routines. All of us are creatures of habit, and sometimes things will not work because of another engagement or activity we must attend to. Cats will get along with people if given time to get to know them, and introductions are made when your cat feels chipper and up to par.

Life With Cats By Your Side

Life With Cats By Your Side

My Cats Followed Me Everywhere

My first cats were outdoor cats that followed me everywhere. If I played on my swingset, my cats would lie on the ground next to the swingset. When I rode my tricycle on the sidewalk, cats lined up along the sidewalk’s edge, or they would sit on my lap while I was on my trike. When I waited for the school bus in the morning, all my cats would stay with me until I got on the bus. I had a lovely bus driver who ensured he never ran over one wish, which was quite an accomplishment with eight cats to look out for. When I returned home from school, the cats would be lined up by the house door, waiting for the attention that they received. Some of them would follow my father, which was okay except for one time when he was moving grain. The curious cat jumped into the grain auger and went through fifty feet of lighting to end up in the wagon riding to the elevator and dumped in a pit. The cat leaped out before it ended up in the pit. The grain elevator attendant noticed, and he placed my cat back in the wagon. I am sure he told his kittens of the event that could have taken his life. We never had any more cats ever do that again.

Life With House Cats By Your Side

Cats love leading the way to the bathroom at night, which has generally worked out okay. One night, my black cat was sound asleep on the steps. I did not see him, so I stepped on him, lost my footing, and slid down the steps. Luckily, I did not break anything, and after that experience, I always turned on the light. You can be sound asleep to wake up to the sound of your cat vomiting, which is generally caused by a hairball or eating too fast. I get up and clean up the mess ASAP. Sometimes, your cat may see a mouse in the house, and he puts it in front of you to say look at the beautiful gift I have for you. It is the catch of the day just for you. You then have to throw it out the door or flush it down the toilet, but the thought counts. Cats try to please us in the best way that they know how.

Cats At Play

Watching your cat play with cat toys and have a grand old time is fun. Cats love catnip toys, circle ball toys, crinkle balls, singing birds, or squeaking toy mice. Once in a while, I will step on one of them at night, and the singing bird sings a song for me. Cats bring great joy into our lives, and it is very comforting to hear them purr away contentedly. Love and respect your feline friends forever, and always treat them as you would want to be treated if you were a cat. Cats have feelings, and they feel love, sorrow, and pain just as we do. I love it when my cats follow me and lie by my side. God bless our dear feline friends.

Two Little Kittens

Two Little Kittens

It Started With An Ad I Saw For Free Kittens

I ate in a restaurant in Wisconsin and saw an ad on their bulletin board that said kittens were available for adoption. I called the number, and a lady answered the phone. She said three out of the four kittens were still available for adoption. My friend and I drove to her home, and two little kittens ran toward my car with their tails straight up. I asked her about the kittens, and she said their Mother was homeless and she had her kittens at her home. She said they had been eating a lot of hot dogs that a restaurant had given them in town for her cat family to eat. They were so adorable that I adopted both of them.

Simon And Garfunkel

I was trying to think of a name for my two little kittens, and I decided on the music group Simon and Garfunkel. They had outstanding personalities and were well-mannered little kittens. For a while, Simon was an outdoor cat, and Garfunkel was always a housecat. They were playful and loving and got along well with my other cats. When I adopted him, Simon was a tiny cat who never grew much. He and Garfunkel would wrestle with each other and play with toy mice, balls, birds, and more. By age two, Simon kept losing weight, and my Vet said he was anemic. I gave him medicine, but it did not help, and I had him put to sleep. Garfunkel and I missed him terribly. Simon and Garfunkel lived in the house next door with my other cats. When one of my older housecats died, Garfunkel moved into my home with my two housecats.

Garfunkel And My Two Housecats

Garfunkel cleans and grooms Conrad’s face. Conrad touches Garfunkel very gently with his paw on his cheek. Cali and Garfunkel usually go to bed when I do and lie close to me at night. Garfunkel is a very photogenic cat. Once in a blue moon, Conrad sleeps by my feet at night but usually sleeps in one of the cat beds. Garfunkel is always next to me if I do not feel well or if I cry. My cats are one year apart in age in my home, and they all get along like peas in a pod.

Garfunkel Is A Senior Citizen Now, Just Like Me

Things get more challenging to do as we age. It is harder for Garfunkel to maneuver around now. He puts his paw out to judge the distance he has to jump to get onto the object of his choice. Garfunkel still loves to play with cat toys and eat treats for his wet cat food. He loves it when you hold him and scratch him under his chin. Garfunkel takes longer catnaps now and keeps close tabs on my whereabouts. Love your old cat just as you did when he was a little kitten, for we all age and grow old. Live all of your nine lives, sweet cats.

Having Cats In My Life

Having Cats In My Life

Cats Are Our Furry Friends

I was introduced to my first cat when I was two years old and have loved them deeply ever since. My Grandfather found Flossie, a very young kitten, meowing in a section of our field near the house. We made a bed for them in the barn, and she flourished and grew and had many kittens in her lifetime. She would follow me around the farm and lay on the ground when I was on my swingset. She and her kittens would wait for me when I stood outdoors waiting for a ride on the school bus. She had one calico kitten that I named Blacknose, and she would come up to our door with a dead garter snake in her mouth. She was the only cat I ever had that killed snakes. She had other kittens, and some of their names were Snitzel, Sprite, Hoover, Blackie, etc,

Dressing Up Snitzel

I loved to dress up Snitzel in large doll clothes. He was tolerant and would fall asleep in the shoebox with his attire on. When he woke up from his catnap, he would look at me with those amber eyes as if to say I cannot face the other outdoor cats with this on. I removed his doll dress, and he returned to being an outdoor cat. Snitzel was a wonderful and loving cat.

Adopting Cats

I have adopted many cats throughout the years. I adopted a cat named Honey, which is part Siamese, Persian, and domestic Shorhair. She was a beautiful Black and white cat with many beautiful kittens. She went to live at a neighbor’s house one day as they had a little girl who loved her and took Honey with them when they moved. I missed her but let her pick where she wanted to live. The neighbors left their purebred Tom cat with us, and he was a beautiful Himalayan cat. My relatives gave me a purebred Maine Coon cat years ago. My cats are a combination of these lovely cats that I had over the years and that I still have through their offspring. A friend gave me a beautiful gray and white tabby cat. I adopted some cats that needed a home while I was in Wisconsin. I adopted four cats from a woman whose Mother had died, and she needed a home for her cats. All my born-on-the-farm or adopted cats have been loved and cared for by me.

Cats Are Good For Your Overall Health

Having cats is known to lower your blood pressure and relax you. Hearing a cat purr is very comforting and relaxing. Cats are always by your side when you feel sick or sad. You can talk to your cats; they will listen and answer you with loving purrs or meows. Cats will always be my all-time favorite pets. I had a pet goat that I loved dearly, along with some dogs, gerbils, and a parakeet. Treat your pets with respect, love, kindness, and compassion, take care of them with regular vet visits, and keep their shots current. God bless you and your pet friends.

Cats and Their Relationship With Other Pets

Cats and Their Relationship With Other Pets

A Siamese Cat

I adopted a pure-breed Siamese cat years ago. She had grown up with birds in the house. She dearly loved a pet parakeet that I adopted. She would lay on the bed and listen to her little bird friend sing. When her bird friend died at ten years of age, she was unfortunate for a while. She did not like other cats at all. I bought a sickly young male kitten into the house one day, and she quickly formed a Motherly bond with the weak little kitten. There is a kind heart in every cat.

A Red Tabby Cat

I adopted a red tabby male cat from one of my vets. He would not kill any mice. He had lived in the vet’s office since he was a young kitten. I imagine my vet had trained him not to kill any small rodents since they were probably patients in his office now and then.

Dogs And Cats

Dogs and cats can have a love-hate relationship. I have had dogs that like cats and other dogs that think a cat is a pest and they should get rid of it somehow. Most of the dogs I have had through the years finally learned to get along with my cats. Jitter was a small black dog that we adopted. Jitters thought of the Mother cat’s offspring as her own. She would babysit kittens for the Mother cats, and the kittens would follow her around.

A Pet Goat

I had a pet goat named Zachary. I put Zachary in a building with two kittens to keep him company when he was a young goat. He loved my cats all his life, and they had an excellent relationship. Zachary, Jitters, and one of my cats, Tabatha, would go hunting together. Jitters and Tabatha were after any mice they could find in the ditch. Zachary would go into the field and eat the ears of corn the combine had left behind.

Cats And Their Relationship With Other Cats

I have several cats who are still living with their parents and siblings. They have a special bond with each other. The siblings will lie down next to their Mother yet today. I have other cats that are not related to them, and they still have a special bond with my other cats. There is also a cat that would be an Aunt to the siblings. They groom and lick each other and cuddle in the same cat bed.

Pets Have Relationships That Will Last A Lifetime

If your cat grows up with your other pets, they will generally have a long and lasting relationship throughout their lifetime.

What Kind of Personalty does Your Cat Have

What Kind of Personality does Your Cat Have

Kohl

Kohl takes after his Mother. Kohl’s Mother was an easygoing cat with a pleasant personality. Kohl’s Mother loved to be around people and was not shy. Kohl looks identical to his Father. Kohl is a large, well, muscled, neutered male cat. Kohl loves to sit on my lap and purr away.

Conrad and Family

Conrad takes after his Mother. Conrad’s Mother is very shy and does not want any human being to pick her up or hold her. She hides from people and will only come out to eat the food put in bowls for her to eat. Conrad’s Father was also on the shy side. Conrad only lets me hold him. He will not come out for other people as he is too scared for the company of most humans. His brother and sister are much worse than he is. His brother Peter hides behind a board next door when anybody comes over. His sister Nicole will look at me from around the corner. Conrad is genuinely a one-person cat. I love him dearly, and he returns the favor.

Garfunkel and Simon

Garfunkel is shy but will still come out and look at any visitors I may have. His brother Simon was a little bit more outgoing with people. Garfunkel’s Mother was dumped on a lady’s doorstep in Wisconsin. She took pity on the pregnant Mother cat-to-be. She helped raise her four kittens by giving them extra food and care. She had put a sign up in a restaurant that she was looking for a good home for the four kittens. Luckily I saw her character in the restaurant and adopted Simon and Garfunkel from her.

Cali

Cali feels that she must rule the roost. She bosses other cats around, and they get fed up with her Siamese ways, which she cannot help. She gives out a frightening meow, and any other cat on my lap runs for the hills. She is very friendly with humans and some cats that seem to understand her Siamese temperament.

Winchester

He is the top cat next door and sleeps way up high on a cat hammock by the window to prove it. As my other cats walk past him and they rub against him. He seems to get along with my other cats now that he is head of the household.

Addi and Family

Addi is very friendly, but her children are shy and very cautious of people. There Grandfather, Onyx, did not trust people. Onyx was an outdoor cat who lived to be 18 or older. He was part Siamese and domestic shorthair. Peter is the Father of Addi’s kittens, and Onyx is his Father.

Faith

She is an amiable short, and portly cat. She gets along fine with all of my cats now. She decided to get in a fight one day with Winchester. She and Winchester are now friends.

Cats definitively take on the personality of their Mother or their Father. You will have an outgoing cat, a shy cat, or a cat between the two characters.

The Aggressive Or Annoying Cat

The Aggressive Or Annoying cat

I  Have Had Several Aggressive Cats Over The Years

A Mother cat with kittens will be aggressive and defensive if you reach into her cat bed when her kittens are with her. She is trying to defend her kittens, so do not feel wrong about that. Try to pat and hold the kittens when their Mother is not near. Kittens will be aggressive and mean if their Mother is that way. A mild and even-tempered Mother cat will have soft and even-tempered kittens. Ask to look at and hold the Mother cat of kittens you might want to adopt if she is friendly and purrs away while you have her go ahead and embrace one of her kittens.

Mr. Gray And Winchester

Mr. Gray and Winchester were friends, and then they fell over something. Mr. Gray used the Winchesters’ litter box, which started their slapping match. Mr. Gray or Winchester will start hissing and growling, and the slapping fest commences. I have finally learned to ignore them, and then they tend to act better as their behavior is a way to get my attention. I have placed one in another room of the house, and they work fine for about a week, and then they slap away again. I brushed them with the same brush and put each other’s scent on them, which helped some. Both cats are declawed, so they can not hurt each other. Play with your cats that do not get along and wear them out so they do not feel like fighting.

Feral Cats

Feral cats will never be as tame as those that are not feral cats. Feral cats can be unpredictable and get mad all of a sudden. I have adopted some feral cats over the years, and some were impossible to touch and hold but were excellent mousers. A wild cat will come to you on their terms only. Do not pick up a feral cat and expect it to sit on your lap, as it will likely bite you. If the wild cat jumps on your lap, talk gently to it and do not make sudden moves to scare it or make it think it has to defend itself. Some feral cats became feral because their owners dumped them out or they were mistreated daily by their owners. A wild cat will always have some trust issues. Be kind, gentle, and loving to your wild cat, and do not expect him to respond immediately to you, as trust takes time.

Annoying Cats

Some cats love to get into mischief when you are talking on the phone. Ignore your cat and let him do his thing, and he will stop doing that negative behavior, as it did not work to get your attention away from your phone call. A sick cat can start meowing and yowling for attention. If your cat starts this behavior, take him to the Vet and have him checked over, as it could be a matter of life or death for your cat. One of my cats loves to rub her scent all over the door or the edge of the stove, and I have learned to ignore her, and she has finally stopped doing that. A board cat can be annoying, so put more cat toys out and interact with your cat more. All cat behaviors have a cause and can often be corrected with patience and love. I hope you and your cats can live in perfect harmony.

Life With Cats In Your Home

Life With Cats In Your Home

My First House Cat

My first house cat was Sugar, a Seal Point Siamese cat. She was set in her ways, and she had her routine. She did not like other cats except for one sicky little male kitten I bought into our home until he was well enough to go back outdoors again. She was very jealous if you paid attention to anything else but her. My Mother was working on genealogy, and Sugar chewed the corners off her papers. She also chewed the corner off of our new road atlas. If she got outdoors, she would try to get into fights with my other cats. Sugar ruled the roost. She was a wonderful lap cat, and I loved her Siamese voice. She would sleep on my bed at night. Once, I found her in my winter vest with just her head sticking out. She loved to play with sponges that she would toss around in the air. She grew up with a parakeet in her home, we had one, and she Dearly loved him. She sat on the tub’s edge and wailed for at least a week after my Mother died. I will always have fond memories of my first house cat, Sugar.

Two Cats In Our Home

I had Ginger, a Lynx point Siamese, and Red, a red tabby. I rescued Ginger from a shelter and cleaned her with a flea and tick solution. She felt and looked much better after her treatment. Ginger was a very loving and kind cat. Red was given to me by my Vet. Red was brilliant and had a circle game toy that he had perfected to a science. He would watch to see if you were watching him play. If you asked him if he wanted to go outdoors, he would come running lickety-split. I had Sly until two stray dogs killed him in my yard. He was such a loving and wonderful cat born on my farm. I let him out because his Mother and sister were still outdoor cats. After Ginger died, I found Philmoor hiding under the cars at a restaurant. He was a lovely and shy cream-colored cat with white socks and boots. Red was jealous of him because he caught onto his circle game toy immediately. He got liver cancer, and I had to have him put to sleep at the age of 10.

I Have Three Cats In My Home

I had Catrenia, a Russian Blue, until she got a kidney disease; my Vet had always wanted her, so he adopted her, and he can treat her, and she is doing fine at his house. I had to have Sebastian put to sleep because he got cancer of the sinuses and mouth. I still miss him very much. He was a very gentle and kind cat that loved everyone. I have Conrad, Garfunkel, and Cali in my home now. Conrad is my cat only, as he is a one-person cat. Garfunkel is very loving and playful, and very talkative. He is an excellent lap cat. Cali is doing fine with her lactaid ringer for her minor kidney disease. She gets two ml of the Lactaid water under the skin once a week to help filter the toxins out of her body as the water is absorbed into her skin. She is very playful and talkative. My cats have their favorite toys and sleeping areas. I could not imagine my home without a cat or two or three.

Cats Enrich And Bring Joy To Your Home

Cats are playful and loving and lay down on your lap and purr away contentedly. Watching your cats and seeing what cat antics they will perform or get into next is fun. Cats bring great comfort and joy into my life. I love watching my cats play with their cat toys and interacting with my cats. God, thank you for blessing us with felines on Earth.

Be Patient With Your New Cat

Be Patient With Your New Cat

Your New Feline Friend May Hide From You, To Begin With

It would be best to remember that your new cat had been removed from his surroundings and people he was familiar with. Anyone would be upset if they were suddenly put in a strange home surrounded by unknown people, sights, and smells. Most of my new cats would hide under a couch, in a box, in the shower, or any area, I could not find right away. The more often I patted or t, talked to them softly, the more outgoing they became. They would come after I called here kitty if they could smell cat treats, tuna canned in water, or a cat snack. You can win over almost any cat with food they like by talking to them softly and being very gentle with them. Some cats hide from you for a month or more before they feel comfortable being seen all the time. I still have one cat that hides from everyone but me. At age 10, one of my cats decided he would trust other people, and he rubs against their legs and purrs away at them.

Litter Box

Never scold a cat for missing his litter box. It takes a cat a while to get used to new litter boxes. If you do not have enough litter boxes in your home, your cat may miss the litter box. They recommend at least one litter box per two cats. Ideally, you would have four litter boxes for three cats. Cats want a clean litter box, or they may not use it at all. I clean out my litter boxes every day.

Cat Food And Water

A cat will starve before eating cat food it does not like. One cat refused to eat a particular brand of cat food, and his owners found out that that brand had caused the death of many cats that did eat it as it was poisoned in processing. Feed fresh cat food and watch those expiration dates. Try to buy the most expensive cat food, as the formula has fewer fillers, by-products, and ash. Give your cat fresh water in a nice clean bowl daily, as cats do not like to drink out of dirty bowls.

Cat Toys

Do not get mad at your cat if he does not play with his new cat toy. Even children have certain toys that they play with and others that sit on the shelf. Female cats play with more feminine-looking cat toys than your male cats would play with. My female cat liked the toys my male cats never played with. My male cats will watch auto racing and woodworking programs, and my female cat likes Martha Stewart—all of my cats like cooking shows.

Outgoing Or Introvert

Some cats are very outgoing, aim to please all of the time, and are very friendly to all that cross their path in life. The outgoing cat comes up to anyone new in your home, wants to be petted, and calls attention to himself. Introvert cats tend to be loners, stay alone, and do not want to be around people they do not know.

Brushing And Combing

Some cats do not like to be combed out, and others love it. Most cats will put up with gentle brushing of their hair. Never tug a snarl from your cat’s hair; it will hurt them. If your cat has matted hair, cut the area off carefully so you do not miss your cat’s skin. Be patient with your new feline friend, and you will have a wonderful friend for life. Be good to all of God’s beautiful creatures, great and small.
