Cats With The Zoomies

Cats With The Zoomies

My Black Cat Milton

Miton has the zoomies quite often. He will fly around the room lickety-split, then run out of breath, and his heart rate will go up considerably. Sometimes he will go around in circles trying to catch his long tail, which never works, of course. He loves to run up and down the steps in the house at least three times in a row until he collapses on the floor. He repeats the whole process in the evening. He will get the zoomies when playing with his toys, tossing them into the air and zipping after them.

My Friends Cat Moe

He is a fluffy, long-haired, cream-colored cat with a soft-sounding meow. He will fly up and down the steps with his large toys that he loves deeply. He will lie on them and pounce. He loves to fly up and down the steps and will chase after toys that are thrown in his direction.

My Tuxedo Cat Jasmine

Jassmine is like a gymnastics genius. She will leap from tower to tower without ever missing a beat. She also loves to jump up high onto the cat hammocks, boxes, and beds. She can toss her toys very high in the air and catch them in mid-flight.

My Cat Winchester

He gets the zoomies every morning before I feed my cats their morning meal of weight-loss formula cat food. He is not patient whatsoever. He will start swatting at my other cats as he has a temper in the morning. He will run into them on purpose and start swatting at them or trying to initiate a fight. Once he gets his breakfast, his temper cools down, and his zoomies stop.

My Cat Tigress

She will run around the house at any time of day, then hide behind the stove for a while, then go to the back room and zoom right past me and back into the living room again. She has a lot of energy and seems to be on the move quite often.

My Cat Tammy

She knows when it is time for her to go to the Vet for her shots, and she is running at full throttle through the house, darting past me and hiding in different places, hoping I will not be able to locate her. I found her on top of a cupboard in the kitchen. She finally came down, and, amazingly, we made it to the Vet on time.

My Three Cat Brothers: Mr. Gray, Sherlock, and Hilford

They will run through the house and have a total case of the zoomies when it is time for their yearly Vet checkup.  They will hide in a kitchen cupboard, or all of them will hide in a heated, large cat building, or the back of the kitchen cupboard area, squeezing close together, making it almost impossible to catch them. I finally got them caught after running back and forth through the house for at least 30 minutes. I did make it to the Vet on time.

Domimant House Cat

Dominant House Cat

Your Dominant House Cat Rules The Clowder

He will provoke fights with your other cats. My cat Winchester rules the house. Some days he behaves normally, and other days he acts like a wild jungle cat. He loves to pick fights with the male cats in the house, even though he is half their age. At least all of my v=cats are declawed in front, except for Faith, who was too old to get declawed when I adopted her.

My Cat Cali

When Cali started having kidney failure, Winchester took advantage of her situation. He started attacking her. I put her in my house and after having a test at my Vet that said she had kidney failure,  I thenput her in my house with my two cats. I have given Cali water IVs for 6 years now, which help flush toxins from her body and encourage her to drink more water. Cali is the top cat in my house because she has a lot of Siamese blood in her. She does not attack my other two house cats, but she still runs the house according to her plans.

Winchester Is Very Moody

Winchester was a house cat at one point, but he was later dropped off at a farm. A cat that was once a house cat and then became feral has a hard time trusting people again. I love Winchester very much, and he knows it. Once in a while, Winchester will sneak outdoors, and when I try to bring him back in again, he tries to attack my face. I then place him on the floor or hang onto him very tightly, depending on the situation. I have learned to leave him outdoors and keep an eye on him until he runs up to the house door and runs right back in on his own.

My Cat Tammy And Winchester

Tammy had not been feeling exactly up to par. My Vet ran a complete blood panel on her, and it said she had an infection. I took her to my Vet for an antibiotic shot. Winchester knew she did not feel up to par, so he struck her in the face with his leg and foot, and I told him to stop doing that and that I did not approve of that kind of behavior whatsoever.

Everyone Has At Least One Dominant Cat In Their Household

There is a reason why cats act as they do. You never know what a cat has had to endure in its life before you adopted it or took it into your home. Think if you were you and a cat had been kind and loyal to your family for years, and all of a sudden they left you alone and scared on the side of the road. You would not trust anyone, and it would take a very long time to get your trust back in humanity. Siamese cats are always dominant, as it is in their DNA. If your cat has anger issues or trust issues, do the best you can to help your cat gain trust in you. Remember, never yell, strike, scream, or scare your cat, as this will only lead to more issues. Talk to your cat gently, but adjust your pitch a little to let them know you do not approve of their behavior at that moment. Have patience with your cat, as you have no idea what he has been through in his life.

Why I Love Cats

Why I Love Cats

I Saw My First Cat When I Was Very Young

My Grandfather found a young gray-and-white kitten in our field years ago. The minute I saw her, it was love at first sight. She and I formed a deep bond that stayed with me. She would follow me all over the farm, and she was an excellent companion. If I swung on the swing set, she would lie on the ground next to me. We named her Flossie. Flossie remained on our farm, and over the years, she had many kittens, which I became very fond of. She killed many mice on our farm, along with rats that had gotten into an old open corncrib. Flossie would wait with me in our yard for the school bus to pick me up and take me to school. The bus driver was cautious, and none of our cats got hit by the bus, luckily. Flossie and at least 7 of her kittens waited with me for many years. I love cats’ gentle purrs and how they love to be held and petted on their terms.

I Love To Adopt Cats That Need A Forever Home

Many of my cats have been born on our farm. I have adopted many cats over the years. I have adopted from private parties because they could not keep their pet as they were moving, having a baby, going to college, or going to a care facility. I have adopted from a humane society near me that offers friendly, healthy cats at very reasonable prices, since they are all up to date on shots, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. Cats know if you love them, as they are very good at reading people’s emotions and how you talk to and treat them. I adopted several cats that had been hanging out around restaurants. Cats have gentle souls and are part of God’s creatures, great and small.

Cats Snuggling Next To You

There is nothing more relaxing than hearing the gentle purring of a contented cat on your lap or one lying next to you that lulls you to sleep with its relaxing purrs. Sometimes a cat will lie next to you as close as it can, or rest on top of your head or by your feet. Once in a while, one of my cats will get up in the middle of the night and start an exercise routine of running up and down the steps. At least they stop within a short time.

Cats Have A Special Place  In My Heart

Cats know how to get your attention, and they are bright and keen creatures. I could not imagine my life without a cat, as I have had several my whole life. I love taking care of them and attending to their needs and wants. I make sure they have plenty of cat toys, beds, heated beds, cat towers, cat food, and veterinary care so they will live a happy and healthy life with me by their side. Cats are family members, too. Cats have gentle souls, comforting meows and purrs, and they calm you with just their presence in your life.

Life With cats In Your Home

Life With Cats In Your Home

I Had My First House Cat When I Was Sixteen

My first housecat was an 8-year-old purebred Siamese cat that we adopted. Her name was Sugar, but she did not live up to it. She would occasionally get into trouble. Once she chewed the entire corner off of our Road Atlas, and she chewed up my Mothers genealogy papers. I loved Sugar dearly, even with the characteristics that all Simese cats seem to have. She was a Seal Point Siamese cat. She loved to lie on my lap, but at a certain point, she would give me an evil look. I had to set her on the floor as she would stare at my face as if she were in attack mode. She dearly loved our pet parakeet, Perry. She would lie down next to where he was, and his singing would lull her to sleep. She loved to play with any sponge that she could find. She ran into the field one day, and luckily, my Mother spotted her in an area where no crops were growing. I put her back in our house, and luckily, she never did that again. She lived to be 16 before breast cancer set in, and I had to have her put to sleep.

Ginger Was A Chocolate Point Siamese Cat

She was a very gentle and loving cat, always by my side. She got along fine with cats except female cats. She lived to be eighteen before I had to put her to sleep. She kept me safe from a bat that had gotten into our home while our house was undergoing new shingles installation. She chased it down until I could remove it.

Philmoor

Philmoor was a cream colored tuxedo cat. He was exceptionally friendly, and he would sleep next to me every night. He would purr away contentedly, and he got along fine with my older cats. I found him in a Perkins parking lot. He got liver cancer, and I had to put him to sleep at the age of ten.

I Adopted A Ginger Cat Named Red

Our veterinarian gave Red to me when Sugar died. He had found Red wandering around on a golf course in the winter. Red was a brilliant cat, and he quickly learned to play a cat ball game. He was energetic and wanted to make sure you watched him, knowing he was a master at that game.

Sebastian, Kohl, And Conrad Where Born On My Farm

They were black cats, as I have always loved them because they seem to have a pleasant disposition. Sebastian was an outdoor cat to begin with, but one cold day, he sat by the door and looked at me with his adoring eyes, as if to say, “I will make an excellent housecat for you.” I gave him a warm bath that night and dried him off while he settled in. That evening, he rounded up every toy mouse in the house and had them all lined up in a row.

Kohl

Kohl was a sickly kitten, so I let him in the house. He had the most pleasant disposition of any cat I have ever had. Kohl was a wonderful lap cat, and he got along well with all of my other cats. he was a smart cat and figured out games quickly. Kohl got cancer, and I had him put to sleep.

Conrad Was Born In An Outdoor Cat Building

He became my housecat when he was almost one year old. he would drown any mouse that might happen to get in the water bowl. I threw out the mouse, and he had a fresh, clean water bowl to drink from. He could figure out any treat ball or toy in a matter of seconds.

I Have Cali, Garfunkel, And Milton Now

Garfunkel is a sweet and loving gentleman cat, and Cali is very affectionate and sweet. Milton treats my elder cats with respect and care. Milton deowns mice in the water bowl just like Conrad used to. Cali is still very active and enjoys playing with her cat toys. Gearfunkel is always next to me. I love all of my cats dearly. Cats bring joy to our lives, and it has been proven that people with cats live longer. Cats help keep blood pressure down and provide many other health benefits. God bless all of our feline family with good health for many years to come.

I Had A Dream About Kensie

I Had A Dream About Kensie

I Had A Dream About Kensie About A Week Ago

First, I saw a friend of mine who had died; she looked like an angel, all white, with angelic wings. I then saw a big white cat in a cage sitting on a shelf; she was pure white and glowed in the dark room at night, as if she were an angel. I thought about it for several days, knowing that I had to find this big white cat somehow. I thought, “Where do I look?” so I decided to look at the website where I had adopted my last three cats. I looked for quite a while, was about to give up, then saw Kensie, called them up, and told them to save her for me, as I wanted to adopt her. I told them about my dream, and they said it was meant to be. I think my friend who died and  God wanted me to adopt Kensie. I filled out my adoption paperwork, I paid the adoption fee, and now I have Knesie in my life.

Kensie Is In The Bathroom Until All Of My Cats Get Familiar With Each Other, With The Door Shut

I always put the new addition to my cat family in the bathroom, as there is a large crack under the door where they can smell each other’s scents and growl or hiss at each other without anyone getting harmed. I have had excellent success with this method of introduction for years. Winchester growled and hissed at her through the door as she dished it right back at him. Faith smelled under the door, and  Mr. Gray without too much fuss. She is sleeping on a blanket from the shelter where I  adopted her. She has food, fresh water, a litter box, and a cat hammock in the bathroom. The furnace duct is directly above her so that she will be nice and cozy at night.

Kensie Is Very Gentle And Loving

She loves to sit on your lap and have belly rubs. She has light colored blue eyes and pink ears and pads. She is pretty large, but she has a clean bill of health, and she is only six years old. Her former owner had to go to a nursing home, and she could not have her any longer. I will put her on Purina Weight Loss Formula cat food and hope that she sheds some of those unnecessary pounds. She walks around easily, and she can jump up and down with no problems.

Kensie And I Formed A Bond ASAP

The first thing she did when she got to our home was to lick my hand. I called her name, and she came out of her cage and purred away softly while I stroked her lovely, soft hair. She ate some cat food and three dried chicken cat treats. She then went to the door and looked under it at the different cats that would walk by. Kensie and I will have many happy and healthy years together.

Cats And How They get Each Other In Trouble

Cats And How They Get Each Other In Trouble

Siamese Cats: Our Masters Of Deception

Siamese seem to know how to work everything to their advantage quickly and effectively. They seem to be able to execute plans to get their housemates in trouble. One time, my older Siamese cat knocked over the Christmas tree, and she had never done anything like that before. She left my new young male cat under the tree as if to tell me what happens when you bring a youngster into your home. Well, the shig was up when I saw her tugging at a bulb on the tree later on in the day. One time, I let my older Siamese cat outdoors, and she beat up my resident outdoor Tom. He did not fight back, so I knew she had instigated the match. When I first brought my new Siamese cat into our home, I couldn’t find her hiding spot for a month, until one day she emerged from a box of stored Christmas decorations.

Young Cats And Older Cats

Cats will quickly try to establish who has top rank in your home. Your main house cats will try to instill this into the newcomer quickly. If he tries to pounce on one of them, they will strike him in the face with one or two good slaps. Your young cat will try to surprise-attack your housecats, which makes them very angry indeed with the new cat, and he soon learns to forget trying to do that. Unfortunately, as your cats continue to age, the young cat will be able to pull some rank privileges, and it is your job not to let it get out of control. Always talk to your young cat firmly from the start if he becomes overly aggressive with your other cats. Training and learning begin from the very first day of introductions. I hope your cats will love each other and live in perfect harmony for many happy and healthy years.

Cats Love It. When The Young Cat Causes Chaos

One time, my older cat noticed the young cat taking the wings off a bird Christmas ornament. She looked at him and me and said, in the look on her face, ‘Do you want that cat that doesn’t know the difference between a real and a fake bird for one of your house cats?’ We were kind of on the same wavelength. He was a brilliant cat, but he had one weak moment in his thought pattern as he must have wanted to eat a real bird that day, and he had to settle for the action of taking the wings off a fake bird. Your older cats love it when the new cat is running through your home, breaking things in his path, and they think he is going to get it now. Your cats seem to forget very quickly that they, too, used to be young and fancy free. May God bless all our cats and may they get along well in their relationships with one another, even when disagreements arise from time to time.

How Cats Treat Each Other

How Cats Treat Each Other

There Will Always Be At Least One Alpha Cat in A Multi-Cat Household

Cali is the alpha female cat in my house, keeping my two male cats in line. She hisses at Milton every day. Milton may growl at her, but he does his best to ignore her when he ignores Cali; it irks her to no end. Cali is 14 years old, and Milton is only 15 months old. Cali wants to get into a fight with him, but he will not. Garfunkel gets along fine with Cali and Milton, and Cali likes Garfunkel. I do not think that Cali will ever like Milton for some reason of her own.

Cats That Grow Up Together

Cats that grow up together and are never separated form lifelong friendships. They will generally walk next to each other with their tails touching. Jasmine and Hanford are brothers and sisters who like sleeping in the same spot or area. They have been inseparable since birth. Addi is the mother of Hilford, Sherlock, and Mr. Gray next door. Hilford and Mr. Gray rub up against their mother daily as a sign of their love for her. Some of my older cats next door became babysitters for Addis’ kittens, and they bonded for life. Kittens that grow up together make perfect housecats since there will be no tension between them regarding who the top cat is. Cats that grow up together help each other out in life. My three Toms went after a Tom that came to the farm, and he never returned with my three Toms scaring him off. A mother cat and her kittens will remain close forever if left in the same household. Peter is the father of Hilford, Sherlock, and Mr. Gray, and he knows they are his kittens and will walk beside his sons.

Tomcat Fights

Tomcat fights can get very nasty in a hurry. Some of my Toms over the years have come home with scars all over their faces or maybe the tip of an ear missing after a brutal fight. Toms constantly fight for the right to the female cats on the property to pass their genes along to the next generation. Some Toms can be very gentle, but they generally do not fare well in all-out warfare.

Female Cat Fights

I had a Siamese female cat beat up one of my outdoor cats years ago, and believe me, you never want to fight a purebred Siamese cat if you are a domestic female cat. Female cats are very good at defending their kittens from Toms and other female cats. Luckily, I had one female cat that won a battle with a skunk. The skunk had bitten a small part of her skin off her face. Our neighbor witnessed the fight and said our female cat was a mighty warrior. Luckily, our cats had rabies shots since skunks are known to carry rabies.

My Cats Never Get Vicious With Each Other

My cats settle their disagreements calmly. They may hiss or growl, but nothing comes from that. My cats are very loving in their different, unique ways.

What Might Upset My New Housecat?

What Might Upset My New Housecat?

Old Cats Versus New Cat

Your old cats will make sure to let your new cat know that they are still in charge. They have various methods of doing this. They will ensure you are watching and make it look like the newcomer attacked them. They are good at swatting the newcomer, and when he swats them back, they look at you with loving eyes like, “Help me, mommy. That new cat is terrible, and you must give it back to its previous owners before we perish. The new cat must tread lightly to fit in with his new family. I had one of my housecats pounce on my young cat, and he did nothing as he did not want to get in trouble, and my cats were very pleased with themselves until the jig was up. My calico/Siamese cat pulled out all of the stops, and she would slap my young cat until he finally swatted back. Cali would swat and hiss at Milton until she realized that would not work for her. Milton was jealous of Garfunkel but soon realized he was a friendly cat.

Feeding Time

At first, one wanted to be served first, and then they realized that the older ones would be served first, and then the youngest. Milton loves cat treats, so keeping them apart for treats proved to be challenging. They soon figured out that their treats would be placed in their dishes, and that was all the treats each cat would get that evening. Cats want to be treated fairly; if you have favorites, your others will notice and feel bad or left out. Make sure you give your new cat the kind of food he is used to eating to avoid digestive issues, and gradually include your food next to his brand of food.

Ensure Your Young Cat Has A Familiar Toy Or Towel. Etc.

A familiar scent around will make your new feline companion’s transition to your home more bearable. Anyone is scared when they are in uncharted territory, and so is your feline friend. Make sure your new bundle of fur has a nice cozy place to sleep where he can be alone if he chooses to. Buy some catnip toys for your young cat and other things that will stimulate him.

Cat Litterbox

Please ensure each cat in your home has its own litterbox. This will reduce accidents, as one cat may not let the others enter their litterbox. Some cats will sit in a doorway trying to block your young cat from getting to any litterbox. Your older cats will then meow and bring you to the area where the newcomer had the accident as if to say Look at that, do you want that creature in your home? Cats are very clever creatures; you must always be one step ahead. Cat rivalry and hierarchy will continue, but you will be in charge of the situation if you think beforehand about what your cat will do.

Cats That Vomit

Cats That Vomit

A Cat That Eats Too Fast

Some cats eat way too fast. They hardly take any time to chew their food; they swallow it whole. I have seen a cat eat a lot of moist cat food and then suddenly vomit. Sometimes, a cat will eat fast if it thinks another cat or animal may come along soon and finish off their food. It is also suitable for an outdoor cat to finish its food quickly, or a predator may come along and find the food. The predator could then see your cat if the cat slept in an area close to the food bowls. Young kittens eat fast to ensure they get enough before one of their siblings finishes the bowl of cat treats. Certain cat foods will spoil if left out too long. As your cat’s caregiver, throw chicken pieces out sitting in your cat’s bowl for two hours.

Anxious And Nervous Cats

Anxious and nervous cats will eat quickly, as they want to be away from other cats or animals because they might feel threatened around them. Cats do not like a change of any kind. I bought a new recliner for our home, and the cats in our house got upset because of the change. Several of them threw up the minute the recliner entered the Living Room. New carpeting or flooring can upset them. Your new pet-proof and stain-proof carpet will most likely get tested out the day after or the next day after it has been installed.

Strangers In Your Home

If someone comes to visit you that your cats have not seen before, they will most likely run and hide under something, as they will then feel safe and protected. If your cat has just eaten before the stranger comes, he may throw up. Some cats may throw up on a chair to show their disapproval of the new chair as it has a new smell and none of their scent. It is best to lay an armrest cover from the old recliner on the new one, and then your cats will think the new one is not so bad after all.

Vomiting Can Be A Sign That Your Cat Is Sick

Cats with bad teeth will throw up, and kidney issues, liver issues, cancer, and more can cause your cat to vomit. You may have to switch to a different kind of cat food that is easier for them to digest. Your cat could have a swallowing problem and issues where they can no longer digest their food correctly. Never punish your cat for throwing up; I have heard of people putting their cat’s head down in the vomit. How would you like it if someone did that to you after you threw up? I can guarantee you would not like it one little bit. If your cat continues to throw up regularly, take him to your vet ASAP, as it could be a matter of life or death for your feline friend.

Problems That Can Arise After Adding A new Cat to Your Household

Problems That Can Arise After Adding A New Cat To Your Household

Cats Are Territorial Creatures

Adding a new cat to your household can cause significant stress to your resident cats. Your cat wants to remain in charge, and if he sees the newcomer as a great treat, he may stop eating or using the litterbox. Most cats should overcome these factors after one month; if not, take your cat to your vet to rule out serious health issues. Some cats will vomit what they eat because they are so stressed out that the new cat may take their position in your home. Cats are genuinely very jealous creatures, and it is more than they can bear to see you give out love to a new cat. Your cats may have hissing and growling matches to make the others think I am big and strong, and you better not tread on me.

Your Cats May Become More Aloof

Your new cat or resident cats may hide more and not want to be as close to you as they once were because they feel betrayed or left out. Your cats might start sleeping under furniture and not on your bed like they used to. Lavish more love on your resident cats and pat your new cat when they are not watching. Never stop treating your cats like you used to before the new cat entered your home. Your cats may stop coming when you place food out for them. If your cat seems afraid to eat, stay next to your cat while you feed him to reassure him he will not be harmed by the new cat while eating.

Time To Start Training Your New Cat

When I see my new cat jump on the countertop or table, I say no, no, get down, and he will right away. Be consistent in what you want your cat to do so he does not get mixed signals from you. Do not be wishy-washy and say, “Oh, isn’t that cute?” if you see them on the table, and then the next minute, you say no, get down from there. Even human children have to have consistent boundaries set. If your cat refuses to use the litterbox, remember if you have three cats, you should have three litterboxes out. We do not like dirty toilets, and our cats do not like litterboxes. Never hit or slap a cat, as that is animal cruelty and is not acceptable in any circumstances. Be kind and loving, as it takes time to learn something new. Learning something new takes us longer than usual if we are stressed, worried, and upset. Be kind and loving with your new feline friend, and be committed to your cat forever.

Hopefully, Your Cats Have Accepted Each Other

I hope your cats see that you love them equally and that there are no favorites. If your cats do not eat like they used to or refuse to accept the new cat, you may want to move him to an entirely different area of your home, away from your resident cats. If he is aggressive toward them, you may want to rehome him. A friend may care for and love your new cat if he is sweet and loving. If cats are introduced correctly, they usually form close friendships and live in perfect harmony.
