They May Want To Volunteer For A Cause They Love

If you love pets, you may want to volunteer at a pet shelter. I have talked to several people over the years who could not have pets of their own because they lived in an apartment. It gives them a great sense of reward to care for the cats and dogs until a family or an individual adopts them. The people who volunteer at the shelters are very loving toward the pets and try to place them in the right kind of homes, taking all family members and other pets into consideration. I have talked to people who volunteer at a hospital as they help direct and take people to their appointments. I like the ladies who work at the hospital gift shop. They are older ladies who love the social interactions during the day. Some people work beyond retirement age for extra income or social interaction, as they have lost their spouse and friends over the years, because it gives them a sense of belonging and purpose.

We Can Teach People By Volunteering

I liked to give tours at our museum over the years. I liked teaching students the history of our area and talking about the various farm machinery, tools, household goods, and how people lived in an old log cabin years ago, and talking about the one-room schoolhouse, jail, and firefighting equipment, horse and buggy days, the milkman that went from door to door, the telephone operator, and so much more. History is very important because we can learn a lot from it: we are not doomed to repeat past events, such as wars, and we learn how to prevent certain diseases over the years. I love historic things, historic places, and learning why my family came to America many years ago.

Volunteering To Help People

We need people to serve others at food banks, homeless shelters, clothing and food drives. We need helping hands to support people who can no longer clean their homes or buy groceries on their own. Sometimes carpenters will repair a home for someone in the area who cannot afford to fix it up. Churches may sponsor someone by helping them get back on their feet after a fire or disaster, such as storm damage. The Salvation Army helps people by selling clothing and other items at reasonable prices, operating a food pantry, and offering much more. People do need help, as everything is so very expensive compared to what it was when people retired years ago. Most older people live on a fixed income and have to choose between medicine and food. Most of them got $25,000.00 a year, compared to $70,000.00 to $100,000.00 a year as workers get paid now.

Volunteering Can Be Very Rewarding

Never take food that you could well afford to pay for, as that is outright stealing food from someone who cannot truly afford to buy food. Volunteering is rewarding when someone tells you Thank You, and you put a smile on their face, as they were downtrodden earlier and now see light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes it is good to have prayer with someone, as all they truly needed was to have someone care about them and see them as one of God’s beautiful creations. Volunteer at your church as you are able, or where there is a need that you support and care about, as it will truly make a difference in someone’s life.
