General Cleaning

I like to start by cleaning everything upstairs. I remove as many things as possible from the room. I finish all my dusting. I shake out the dresser scarves or wash them. I  then wash the floors and wax them with a wood cleaner and wax. Now is a good time to get rid of unwanted clothes and shoes. I wash the bedding or replace anything that shows wear. Replace the paper in your chest of drawers and get rid of items you haven’t used or looked at. Go through all of your bookwork and burn papers that are over 7 years old. Make a pile of things you would like to sell or donate. Get rid of any old boxes that no longer have a real purpose.

Cleaning The Main Floor

I vacuum all of the furniture and shake out any scraps to protect it from scratches. I take all of my books out of my bookcase, weed them out, and dust off the tops of the books. I throw out old magazines and anything I no longer need, such as old articles. I vacuum under the furniture and in all the room’s crevices. I take everything out of end tables or storage cabinets and dust them thoroughly. I clean the whatnot shelf and the corner cupboard with dishes. I remove the dishes, wash them with dish soap, dry them, and put them back in the corner cupboard, looking nice and shiny. Clean anything with glass with glass cleaner. Put some lemon oil on your wood furniture to preserve it and help keep it from drying out and cracking.

Cleaning The Kitchen

I vacuum under the stove, refrigerator, and washer/dryer combination. I clean out the dryer lint pipe. I put new aluminum foil under the kitchen sink area and in the oven. I  clean up all of the appliances and take everything out of the cupboards to be washed and cleaned. I generally find items to sell or donate. I go through and clean the food cupboards.

Cleaning The Bathroom

Go through the medicine cabinet and discard old items. I clean out the cupboard above the stool and throw out old items, such as suntan lotion and more.

Basement Cleaning

Wash your cement floors with a hospital germicide cleaner. Clean out the inside of your washing machines and clothes dryer. Throw out old boxes. Remove everything from the area being cleaned. Go through your canned goods and throw out items that are expired or soon to expire. Clean the tops of storage cupboards and throw out anything that might attract mice.

Pet Items Cleanup

I have a special washing machine that I use specifically for cleaning pet bedding and toys. I use a germicide when I clean my cats’ floors. Wash dishes with dish soap. I have Lysol, Zep, and Nature’s Miracle that are good for cleaning cat messes.

Cleaning Outdoor Buildings

I remove everything from my garage and sweep it thoroughly. I rake all the corn cobs off the floor in a metal shed with a sand floor. I remove any cobwebs from the outdoor buildings and clean the windows. I burn old rags and get rid of old items.

Cleaning Pet Necessities

I clean my pet towers and hammocks with a commercial shop vac and a HEPA filter. I also vacuum the floors with it. I take my litterboxes outdoors, disassemble them, and clean them with dish soap and a firm-bristled brush. Then, I let them dry, put them back together, and ensure they are still working correctly. If they can be cleaned, washing their pet toys and towels in a washing machine is a good idea. I have a special washing machine just for my cats. If the toys are falling apart, please throw them away and try to replace them with a similar toy, especially if it was one of your cat’s favorite toys. I wash off the outside of their heated beds and vacuum the heated mat covering, or wash it if it comes off the heating pad. I have a small steam cleaner that cleans the floors, or I wash them with a mop and a floor cleaning solution that is not toxic if a cat licks the floor before it dries completely.

House Cleaning

I start upstairs and work my way down. Ensure you have plenty of cleaning clothes, brushes, a dust mop, a broom, a shop vac, bathroom cleaners, window cleaners, laundry detergent, floor polish, car cleaning supplies, a dust cloth, and more. I finish one room before I move onto another. I also practice getting rid of something every time I clean. If you have not used something in ten years, get rid of it; chances are you will never use it or need it again. Have a system for cleaning, such as dusting before you mop and cleaning the floors. If you want to, now is a good time to rid your home of clothes, cooking supplies, books, furniture, small appliances, and other things you are just cleaning around but not using. Sell stuff you do not use or donate if they are in good shape, or put them in the garbage if worn out or unusable. If a room is a catch-all room, eliminate most of what is in there, and you will be glad you did. Do not keep too much stuff for your children, or others should not have to deal with a mountain of things to dispose of when you die.

Cleaning Outdoor Buildings

It is a good idea to sweep the dirt and leaves from your garage floor, take everything out of your garage, and get rid of what got put in there that you do not need. I have also washed and mopped my garage floor. I get all of the cobwebs swept down in outdoor buildings, and sweep the floors with a broom. If you see cracks in a building, now is a good time to patch them before they get more prominent, and if you see any rotten wood, repair it with new wood.

SUV Cleaning

Wash and polish your car at least once a year with a top-quality wax, protecting it from the salt they put on the roads in the winter months. Also, wash and clean the floor mats, check tire pressure and fluid levels, and clean up any oil leaks you may see on the concrete in your garage. I put kitty litter on the oil mark and then Krud Cutter cleaner, and the floor looks terrific once again. I vacuum the seats or put a leather conditioner on them and dust off everything in the SUV. I like Armour All products.

Getting Mold Off

A pressure washer works well for getting rid of mold. Put a mold killer in the water tank. Pressure washers are also suitable for cleaning cement, dirt, and grime off a house before you paint it. Wait until the house is dry before you apply the paint. I hope your cleaning projects go as planned and you eliminate some things you have not used in many years.
