What to do if Your Cat Sneaks Out of Your House

When My cat sneaks out of my house, I look all over for my cat at first and call to them. Sometimes my cat will show up about three hours later in the day. My cat wants to get familiar with his surroundings and explore the great outdoors.

My cat Catrenia was good at sneaking out of the house occasionally. I called and called her to no avail. I remembered she was familiar with the sound of my riding lawn mower. I got the lawn mower out and ran it next to the cornfield she had run into. I stopped the mower and called her to see if she would come to me yet. The sound of the mower directed her back toward my house, and I was finally able to get her back indoors.

Catrenia

I have set a dish of tuna with water outdoors to attract cats that have escaped out of the door. Sometimes my cat might be gone for about a week, but the smell of the tuna lures them back home. If you have a wild outdoor cat, put the tuna in a catch-and-release cage. My cat was in the cell in the morning, and the tuna was gone. I use this same method for catching cats that are hard to catch when it is time for their yearly shots.

When your cat is missing, call your neighbors and let them know, and put up posters that have a description of your missing cat. You can also place an ad in your local newspaper, social media platforms, and radio stations to inform your local humane society.

I had a female cat that I had for four years take off suddenly. In 8  years, she returned to my farm. I think the chip they put in the cat’s ear is an excellent idea. A vet scanned a chipset in a cat’s ear, and the cat has reunited with her family after fifteen years. She had been living 500 miles from her home. Cats can travel long distances. I hope you can find your cat if he sneaks out one day.

Prevent the Spread of Diseases

Keep Your Cats Bedding and Litter Boxes Etc. Clean to prevent the Spread of Disease

Vacuum your cat’s beds or wash them at regular intervals. I have towels that my cats sleep on. I sanitize the towels in my washing machine with lots of detergents and hot water.

I scrub out their litter boxes regularly. I use dishwashing soap, a scrub brush, rubber gloves, and hot water. Take the dirty litter box outdoors and scrap everything you can off of the litter box before you clean it in your basement. I like to hose down the litter box and clean it outdoors before I bring it to my house to complete the cleaning process. After you wash the litter box with detergent and hot water, let it dry out completely before you fill it with fresh kitty litter.

If your kitty throws up a hairball, clean it up immediately. Use a cleaner that is pet safe. I use cleaners that are only pet safe. I like Nature’s Miracle Cleaner. It indeed does work miracles. I wash the wood floor in my house with pine – sol. I finish by putting a hardwood and laminate cleaner that is pet approved on my wooden floor.

I scrub my floors in the house next door with a steam cleaner. The steam cleaner kills all the germs safely and quickly. I also run a dehumidifier in my place in the summer months to eliminate all dampness that can cause mold and mildew, making our cats sick.

I vacuum my carpets every other day. By cleaning every other day, you pick up cat hair, dandruff, and flea eggs lurking in your carpet. You can eliminate a lot of allergens for you and your cat by vacuuming regularly.

Keep all of your cat’s grooming tools and litter box tools clean. I use dishwashing soap on them also with plenty of hot water.

I hope you and your cat stay disease free.

A Tom Cat That I Rescued Difficult Cats

A Tom Cat That I Rescued

A sickly Tom cat came to my house years ago. His ears were frozen off, and he was pretty ill. I treated his frozen ears with antibiotic ointments. I put drops in his ears for ear mites. He had a horrible cough without diarrhea. I had penicillin on hand and gave him a shot in his back thigh. I had asked my vet what dosage was suitable for a cat before I gave him his shot.

He was a beautiful white Tom cat. He did not seem to mind my constant doctoring. Tom started to put weight on gradually. He was skinny when he first arrived on our farm. He stayed in a vacant dog house with straw in it. I kept treating his ears and giving him penicillin shots. Tom started coming out of the dog house and eating with my other farm cats.

Tom would let me pick him up and carry him around the farm. Tom had penicillin shots for a week before he was ultimately better. Toms’s’s fur looked beautiful, his ears healed, and his ear-mite free. He was a handsome-looking Tom cat now. Tom always slept in the dog house at night. I guess he felt safe in the dog house at night.

I could not find Tom one day. I had treated Tom every day for about a week and a half. I looked for Tom for some time but could never find him. One day I went to a friend’s house, and there was Tom. Tom looked happy and contented. I never told my friend that her new cat was Tom, the cat I had nursed back to health.

I figured Tom got tired of my doctoring and decided to move on to a house where they did not pester him daily with shots and other treatments. All I cared about was that Tom was healthy.

Trisha's Story

Trisha’s Story

Trisha was a beautiful tortoiseshell calico cat. Her Mother was a black and white cat by the name of Honey. Honey was part Siamese, Himalayan, and Domestic Short Hair. Trisha’s Father was a black cat born and raised on our farm.

Trisha was an excellent Mother cat. Trisha never lost one of her kittens. She was very protective of all of her kittens. Trisha would look both ways on the road at least three times before crossing safely to the other side. She also taught each one of her kittens this excellent survival skill.

I had a door flap installed on my cat building. Trisha spent a great deal of time teaching every one of her kittens how to enter and leave the cat building through the door flap. She was very patient with her kittens.

Trisha had one kitten that looked just like she did. I named that particular kitten Elite. Elite loved to sleep with my pet goat Zachary. Zachary licked her fur so much that he gave her a Mohawk in June.

Trisha was an excellent huntress. She would bring home rabbits and mice that she had caught. Her kittens were excellent hunters with Tr, isha’s excellent guidance.

Trisha had one kitten when she was fifteen, and I named him Tinker. Tinker was a beautiful cream-colored kitten. Tinker was born in December but thrived with Trisha’s excellent care.

I had a little heater in my cat building to keep Trisha warm in her old age. Trisha would still go out hunting in the field and ditches in her old age and was still very successful. Trisha lived to be eighteen years old. Trisha has lived longer than any of my other outdoor cats. Trisha died on my farm, and she is buried on my farm. Trisha was a truly remarkable and lovely outdoor cat.

Training Your Cat

Training Your Cat

Consistency is the key to training your cat. When you tell your cat no, it should be in a firm voice.

Do not let your cat jump on your table one day and the next day think oh well, I don’t care. Your cat will get mixed signals quickly. I like to hit my newspaper on the area they should not be on. The newspaper makes a loud noise that they do not like. They will remember hearing that noise again if they do not stay down.

My Grandmother would swat a fly swatter on a table to discourage her cat’s lousy behavior. I would not encourage that method, however. When you want to kill a fly, your cat will wonder what you did wrong.

TI has put perfume on a cotton ball and placed it on my table to stay off the furniture. Ensure your furniture’s color fastness before placing the scented cotton ball on your furniture. Cats do not like the smell of perfume and stay off your table.

Another way of making cats behave is to bang a couple of pots and pans’ lids together. They will not want to hear that noise again.

If my cat makes a mess on the carpet, I show them the area and say no. Do not put your cat’s face in a lot. That is cruel and unnecessary punishment.

Always reward your cat with a healthy cat treat after their excellent behavior. Never give your cat a treat for bad behavior. Your cat will think if I scratch up the couch, I will get a lovely cat treat.

I have tried placing aluminum foil on household items to keep my cats off. Aluminum foil has not proven effective with my cats whatsoever.

Cats are pretty intelligent creatures and catch on quickly. Reward your cat’s good behavior by playing a game with him. Have a stick with feathers on the end that he can bat around and play with. You can toss a ball back and forth with your cat that he will chase after. Always praise and pat and hold your cat when he remembers what you have taught him.

I hope you and your cat live in perfect harmony for many years.

Cat Antics

Cat Antics

Cats are experts at hiding in locations where you would never dream of looking for them. Cats can perform balancing acts better than someone on a balance beam can. My cats love to fly through my house and never seem to break anything. Cats are the most coordinated creatures on God’s green earth.

Years ago, my Father went out to feed our Pigs at 5 AM one morning. My Father had bent over to fill a bucket with grain when our cat Skunk decided to jump on his shoulder. My Father jumped, wondering what had landed on his shoulder, to discover that it was only our black cat Skunk.

My house cat Garfunkel loves sleeping on my Grandfather’s clock and refrigerator. He has an excellent viewpoint on top of these high items. I once found Garfunkel sound to sleep on top of my China Hutch. Later in the day, Conrad was sleeping beside him on top of the China Hutch.

I used to have a Pool Table in my basement. My house cat, Sugar, would rest on a cupboard and watch the balls fly across the Pool Table. Sugar took great pleasure in watching those balls fly across my Pool Table. Sugar was a pure-breed Seal Point Siamese cat. My Mother was working on Genealogy one day, which was more than Sugar could bear. Sugar was a very jealous cat. We left to go to town, and when we came back home, Sugar had chewed the corner off of each of my Mother’s papers, plus a brand new road atlas. My Mother was unhappy with Sugar’s antics that day. One day I had been looking high and low for Sugar to discover her later in the Christmas decoration storage box. Sugar shocked my Father when he reached for a towel in our linen closet. He touched Sugar instead of a towel.

My cat Sebastian would balance on top of a window valance and walk back and forth without losing footing. At age two, he became too large to perform these antics. When I first brought him into our house as a young kitten, he gathered up all of the missing toy mice and placed them side by side in a neat, orderly row.

I love the different antics cats can perform with precision and ease. My cats never cease to amaze me.

Orijen Wild Boar Freeze Dried Cat Treats from Chewy.Com

I was provided Orijen Wild Boar Freeze Dried Cat Treats from Chewy.Com to facilitate my review. All thoughts are 100% honest and my own.

I first gave my cats next door the Orijen Wild Boar Cat Treats. Lorenzo was trying to steal the other cat’s treats as fast as he could. I had to hold onto Lorenzo so my other cats could eat these beautiful treats. Russ, Mr. Gray, Sherlock, and Hilford ate up the Orijen Wild Boar Cat Treats as quickly as I laid them out. Addi ate about three cat treats. My British Short Hair cat Nicole ate three cat treats. Cali was sitting on a high ledge, and I placed three cat treats in front of her, which she gobbled up quickly.

20150917_132754

I gave my outdoor cat Maggie some of the Orijen Wild Boar Cat Treats. Maggie was very impressed with the cat treats. Maggie kept wanting more treats. I only gave her three cat treats because she is too plump.

The next day my cats were still very enthralled with the Orijen Wild Boar Cat Treats from Chewy.Com. Lorenzo was still trying to get more than his fair share of cat treats. Cali, Russ, Sherlock, Bella, and Mr. Gray ate all of their cat’s treats again quickly.

Orijen Wild Boar Cat Treats are made in Canada from regional ingredients delivered fresh. Orijen Cat Treats have real food, and they never outsource. That’s why they prepare Orijen treats in their kitchens, where they freeze-dry our fresh local ingredients and control every detail of their preparation. The only ingredients in the Orijen Wild Boar Cat treats are boneless wild boar and wild boar liver. I love to feed my cats healthy treats with no harmful additives.

My cats give Orijen Wild Boar Cat Treats from Chewy.Com  a high stamp of approval.

Cystitis or Bladder Inflammation and Your Cat

Cystitis or Bladder Inflammation and Your Cat

My Russian Blue cat Catrenia had Cystitis. I had Catrenia for about four years before she got Cystitis. She was not as active as usual. Catrenia started sleeping a lot. I noticed her using the litter box quite often. Every time Catrenia used her litter box, she did not have much urine output. I took her to my vet, and he said she had Cystitis. My vet gave her antibiotics, some medicine, and exceptional cat food that helped with Cystitis.

IMG_1613

My vet had told me he would like to have Catrenia if I ever wanted to part with her. My vet told me this about four years ago. I told my vet then I did not want to part with her. I was told by two of my vets that she would get a flare-up of Cystitis for the rest of her life now and then.

I have two other house cats, and buying expensive cat food for Cystitis for all three of my cats to eat was not an option that would work. I knew I would miss Catrenia terribly, but I thought her best option would be to live with my vet, who always wanted to have her. I called my vet and asked him if he would still like Catrenia, and he said he would still love to have her. Catrenia lived in the vet’s office for some time and recovered entirely by eating her exceptional cat food for Cystitis. She could get a flare-up again, but now she lives with a vet that can treat her every need. I visited Catrenia at my vet’s office at least once every two weeks. I could see that she was healthy and very contented living there.

2014-01-06 12.10.36

Catrenia now lives in my vet’s house along with one other house cat that my vet has. Catrenia can now get all the care that her condition calls for 24/7.

Working Cats

Working Cats

There is a local grain elevator in my area that has several cats. Their cats are working cats. When the Semi trucks are unloaded at the elevator, mice will run out of the grain carts. Their cats are expected to kill the mice for their room and board. Their cats have been excellently keeping the grain and the elevator rodent-free. The cats patrol the elevator 24/7  for mice and rats. When the elevator is closed at night, the cats can get in where their feed is stored and keep it rodent-free. Their cats are provided cat food, which the elevator sells, and freshwater every day. The cats help them, and they help their cats by providing room and board for them.

Kohl

I have known a man who owned an Implement Co. since I was twelve. A young black Tom cat wandered into his Implement workshop one day. They feed the young black cat, and he seems to like living at the Implement Co., Their black cat is free to come and go as he chooses, but he stays in their workshop most of the time. Combines go into the workshop that has mice hiding in them. When the workers start the combine, all kinds of mice run away from the combine, and their workshop black Tom comes to their rescue. He kills the mice quickly and efficiently. The Implement owner told me no rodents have ever escaped their resident Tomcat. Tom patrols the sales area of their business also. He is a friendly cat and loves to be patted on his head. I ordered some parts on the phone one day. I asked the owner if he still had Tom. He said Tom was doing well and was eighteen years old and not missing a beat—the perfect fit for man and cat.
