My cats do not like the sound of a giant upright vacuum cleaner. Most of my cats will hide and be out of sight until I put the vacuum cleaner away. My cats do not get upset over a little handheld vacuum cleaner.

I purchased a room for the first time about five years ago. My cats would sit and watch the Roomba vacuum in my living and dining rooms. One day my cat Kohl fell asleep under a chair in the dining room. The Roomba got dangerously close to Kohl’s tail. I have never seen a cat move as fast as Kohl did that day. One day I was planning on starting my Roomba in about ten minutes. It is as if one of my house cats had read my mind and pushed the start button on my room. My Roomba was vacuuming my living room, compliments to one of my house cats, who was very observant in watching me start the Roomba at once.

My cats do not like it when I vacuum their hair off my drapes or the furniture in my house. Garfunkel will sleep on top of my Grandfather’s clock. Kohl lays down in a platform rocker in my living room, and Conrad sleeps on a rocking chair in one of my upstairs bedrooms.

My cats in the house next door are not impressed with a large, noisy vacuum either. Most of them will hide back of a piece of plywood or go to the utility room in the house.

I started a Roomba for the first time in the house next door last week. My cat Russ kept an eye on it and seemed to enjoy watching it move across the carpet as it did an excellent job removing its hair from my carpet. Bella watched the Roomba from the box she was resting in. Hilford and Mr. Gray watched it from a heated cat bed. Cali was also interested in protecting the Roomba clean up her sleeping, toy, and a living area of the house.

My cats were enthralled with how a Roomba moves around and cleans your carpet.

We will all have many challenges and changes before we leave this earth.

Our quality and perspective on life depend on how we react to all the ups and downs throughout our lifetime. A person must concentrate on all the positive things that have happened in her or her lifetime. If you think you are beaten, you will most likely be destroyed. A positive attitude in life makes for a positive person.

Make sure you have lots of hobbies that you love and enjoy. Always surround yourself with positive-thinking individuals. Positive thinking people will cause you to have positive thinking in your life. Regardless of your problem or concern, always realize there are many people worse off than you.

I love to read history books. Always be willing to learn something new every day of your life. Reading is an enriching hobby and very educational. Reading keeps your mind enriched and growing every day.

All of us will have health issues to deal with before we leave his world. How we deal with a health issue will affect how long we live with that health issue. The power of positive thinking can have incredible effects on how long we live or our quality of life.

Surround yourself with friends that are supportive in your times of need. Prayers get answered, sometimes not as quickly as we would like. God is always with you, even when you think he is not. God watches over us night and day. After all, all of us are God’s children.

I am blessed to have so many amazing, kind, caring, concerned, loving, and loyal friends and relatives. I do not know what I would do without them.

Outdoor kittens love chasing after leaves that have fallen off the trees in the fall. The kittens will pounce on the leaves and chase after them as the wind blows them around. Kittens will play with their Mother’s tail. Young kittens love to wrestle with each other. Mother cats love to take their kittens with them while they hunt in the fields and ditches for mice. Kittens learn their hunting skills from their Mother.

My outdoor cats love to bask in the sun and lay on the warm cement by my house. Some of my outdoor cats like to roll around in the dry dirt in the garden or field. Moving around in the dry earth helps remove excess oil from your cat’s hair, so they take a dirt bath. Outdoor cats love to roll around in the garden while I work there.

My outdoor cats love to sunbathe on my deck when the sun is out. My cats enjoy my deck even in winter if the sun is out. Maggie loves to watch birds eating at my bird feeder. Maggie has never tried to eat any of the birds at my bird feeder. I think she knows I would not be happy with that.

My outdoor cats make sure my buildings are rodent-free. I have watched Maggie going around to the corn crib and old machine shed and looking inside the facilities for mice. Outdoor cats catch and eat a lot of rodents, along with the dry cat food I put out for them every day.

I have a few cat toys for my cats to play with in my outdoor cat building. They have a catnip mouse and four cat toy balls to roll around on the building floor.

Cat Hazards

Many cats die from poisoning every year. Please ensure all your poisons and hazardous chemicals are stored where your cat cannot reach them.

I will give you a list of poisons and chemicals that may be fatal if ingested by your cat:

drain cleaner
mouse poison
makeup
perfume
oil
antifreeze
floor polish
car wax
rust remover
glass cleaner
medications for humans
fertilizer
chemicals
gasoline
diesel fuel
and many more

Have a medication on hand that will induce vomiting if your cat has swallowed something that could be fatal. Check with your vet if he wants you to induce vomiting for your cat. It will depend upon what your cat has swallowed if it is necessary to induce vomiting. If you are unsure if your cat has ingested poison, but appears sick, call your vet ASAP. Depending upon what type of poison he may have swallowed, he could die in a manner of minutes.

Do not put any mouse poison or ant killer out if you have a cat. If you change your engine oil, put the old oil where your cat cannot reach it. Cats will drink antifreeze because it has a sweet taste. The antifreeze will kill your cat. Never, never leave out hazardous items that could kill your cat. Remember to make sure cupboard doors and closet doors are correctly shut. Cats can sneak into the smallest openings and quickly get into trouble.

Garbage can be a hazard. Your cat can get his head stuck in a can or a bottle and suffocate. Plastic bags can also cause suffocation if they become stuck in them. Dispose of your garbage correctly.

I hope your cat never swallows anything that will harm him. Always be extra careful with all cleaning supplies and chemicals.

Kohl is my oldest house cat. He was born and raised on my farm. At the age of four, he broke his leg.

He broke his leg on a Thursday evening at 8:00 P M. My cat Garfunkel was walking across the floor while Kohl was jumping down from a desk. Kohl did not want to land on Garfunkel, so he landed wrong from his jump to the floor. I heard Kohl screaming in pain. I thought he had stabbed himself. I looked him over and did not notice any bleeding. He ran down to my basement, screaming in pain. I finally caught him in a fishing net with a long handle. I then put him in a cage and called my vet.

I told my vet I thought he may have stabbed himself even though I noticed no blood. I was frantic with worry. I talked to my friends through my car speaker phone about Kohl on my way to my vet. I was driving fast, thinking he might die before I arrived. My vet removed him from his cage and placed him on the floor. When he tried to walk, it was clear he had broken one of his legs. My vet gave him a pain pill, and then he put him under the latter and put a cast on his leg.

Kohl did not put any weight on his broken leg for at least one month. I started moving his leg up and down for him. I would hold him up gently and help him bounce up and down on both of his hind legs. This seemed to help build up the muscle strength in his back legs. With my help, he started using his broken rear leg. He made a full recovery.

I hope none of your cats ever get a broken leg.

Tales of Feral Cats

I had a friend that rescued a cat in the middle of the winter that someone had dumped out. The poor cat was thin and emaciated. The cat was standing on the cold sidewalk. My friend tried to pick up the cat, but she could not remove the cat from the sidewalk. She discovered that the cat’s paws had been frozen down to the sidewalk at night. She hurriedly went to her house for some hot water and very carefully poured the water over the cat’s paws. She could finally pick the cat up and bring him to her home. The cat’s feet were horrible, so she took him to her vet to treat his paws for frostbite. It took her new cat a long time to walk normally again. He was a black cat that she grew to love quickly. In his old age, he developed diabetes and needed the exceptional cat food she provided him. He died in her arms on the way to her vet.

A woman told me that she had rescued a male feral cat. He was skinny and bony. They took him to their vet to be checked over and get his necessary shots. They would buy groceries from the store and set them on their table before they put them away. The bread always seemed to disappear, and at first, they thought maybe they forgot to buy it. The bread would disappear every time they purchased groceries at home. They finally spotted their cat running to their closet with a loaf of bread. Their new cat had been hoarding bread in their closet. They found ten loaves of bread in their closet. Their cat finally stopped collecting bread when he was convinced he would get a regular meal from them every day.

A person does not realize what some poor innocent cats have been put through by cruel and neglectful former owners. When you have an opportunity to rescue a poor feral cat, you will be helping them out tremendously. You will have a wonderful appreciative cat for the rest of your new cat’s life.

Ear mites can be quite bothersome to your cat. Your cat will be plagued with having to itch and scratch at his ears to try to get some relief. If he keeps scratching at his ears, they will bleed and bother him more.

The ear mites are light – colored, and you need an otoscope to see them. Once large amounts of ear wax and excretions have formed because of the ear mites; you will notice brownish and black patches in your cat’s ears. Ear mites at this stage look like little pieces of black sand.

Ear mites that are not attended to will cause secondary ear infections. Bacteria and fungus can grow in your cat’s ears because of the ear mite infestation.

Outdoor cats are more prone to getting ear mites than indoor cats. Because of ear mites, older or weaker cats can develop a severe condition quickly. If you notice your cat shaking his head, you will know he has a bad case of ear mites.

Dirty ears should always be cleaned out. An infection can generally be healed if it is treated with appropriate ear drops.

Clean out the ear canal with a cotton swab. Ensure you do not place the swab too deeply into the ear canal. It is best to have someone help you hold your cat securely while swabbing out his ears.

If you are unsure how to clean your cat’s ears, take him to your vet. I buy an ear mite solution from my vet or a farm store.

If you notice your cat holding his head to the side, the infection has spread to his inner ear. Take him to your vet ASAP, as you do not want him to lose hearing because of the ear mite infestation.

Ensure an ear mite solution to take care of infestations before they become a significant problem.

Cats will only come when you call them if they want to go to you at that particular moment. My cats always come if I have a cat treat or tuna canned in water. I think cats are more intelligent than dogs. Dogs always try to be obedient where whereas cats feel for themselves. If a cat is sound to sleep, you can call them, and they will ignore you and keep sleeping. Our house cat probably dreams of a large mouse they just caught and how delightful it tastes when we try to wake them from their wonderful dream.

Cats are very good at letting us know what they want and when. My friend’s cat rolled an unopened can of tuna off the countertop in her kitchen. She opened the can of tuna for him to eat, and all was well with him and his mistress. Her cat tipped over his heating pad in the middle of the night to let her know it had become unplugged. She plugged his heating pad back in, and all was well.

Cats seem to have a sixth sense of the weather. My friend had a female Siamese cat that would hide under her couch just before the tornado siren went off in her area. Her cat immediately came out from under the sofa just seconds before the all-clear came from her local weather station.

Cats are excellent at getting what they want from us. My male cats will pour on the charm big time if they want me to give them a particular snack or food. My cats Russ and Lorenzo will put their arms around my neck and give me a cat hug after they get their cat treats. We love to please our feline friends; they seem to know it and get exactly what they want from us.
