Cats With Cattitude

Cats That Do Not Like Vet Visits

I took one of my cats to my vet’s office and she leaped, jumped, and knocked his cordless phone onto the floor. Luckily she did not break his phone. My vet was finally able to contain her and give her her shots. She used to be a feral cat and had not yet gotten used to the benefits of being an indoor cat. I took  my new male cat to the Vets office the other day for shots and blood test, and after he had been treated for ear mites, he was mad and beyond mad. After I got him home from the vet, he bit into my shoe and legs, but luckily, he did not hurt me. On the way to the vet’s office, I had one cat hyperventilate and drool. On the way home, he could breathe perfectly fine. One cat leaped in the air once and caused the vet to get stuck in the syringe. When you adopt a new cat, you never know if they have ever been to a Vet before, so remember to prepare for the worst-case scenario.

Cats That Seem Always To Have A Temper Problem

If you adopt a cat that was always the only cat in the house, he may never learn to interact correctly with your other cats. My purebred Siamese cat always wanted things to go her way, or she would quickly lose her temper. She would give you a dirty look, meaning you better be careful. She got very jealous if you did something other than pay attention to her. She chewed off the corner of our paperwork once and destroyed the new road atlas years ago. I have owned only two cats that wanted to be left alone and untouched, and I adopted them.

Cats That Are Never Afraid Of Anything

I have had cats kill a skunk, rat, snake, and rabbit, and even though they had problems doing so, they continued what they thought was their duty to perform. I have had cats climb too high, but they all came down eventually. My cat that killed the snakes would come up to the house once a week and drop a freshly killed garter snake by our back door, and once we saw it, she would eat it. I had one cat that would kill mice by drowning them in the water bowl. I remember the female cat on TV that kept going into the burning house to save all of her kittens. She got them all out, but one died later on. She was burned badly. She and her kittens found loving and caring homes. She was an excellent and loving Mother cat that would do anything to save her family as any good parent would do for their children. God Bless all our wonderful feline friends, as we all have an attitude now and then.

My Cat Maggie

My Cat Maggie

Maggie was given to me by a lady whose Mother had died that used to have Maggie as one of her house cats. Maggie has always been an amiable and loving cat. Maggie used to live outdoors at my place. She lived in a cat building with heated cat beds and a heated water bowl.

Maggie Is Getting Older

Since Maggie is considered an old cat now, she lives in the house next door with ten other cats. I decided to put her indoors in October. She was shivering as she walked around outdoors. Since she could no longer stand a temperature of 50 degrees, I decided she should be a permanent house cat.

Maggie Gets Along Beautifully With My Other Cats

She gets along beautifully with my other cats. She loves the cat tree in the house and keeps her claws in optimal condition. Canned cat food and treats are a big hit with her. Catnip mice and singing birds are tossed around by her, and she loves to eat catnip, also.

Maggie The Huntress

When Maggie was outdoors, she would climb up in the trees. She would also lay next to me while I was in the hammock. She was an excellent huntress, and many rodents met an early demise. She would sleep under the picture window, and when an unfortunate bird would crash into the window and die, she would have an appetizer.

Maggie The Gardener

She was good at gardening as she was always by my side. She would take dirt baths in the dry soil. She would fertilize the raspberry bushes planted in the garden. Maggie would take off running with the empty seed packets I would gather later and put in the trash. She made sure I had straight rows in the garden as she would lay down on the string I had laid out for the rows. Once in a while, she would tap against the seed packet, and a few more seeds would be planted in that area.

Maggie In Her Golden Years

Maggie steps out of the door now and then next door, but she does not venture far. She eats a little grass and goes back inside. Maggie is 11 Years old now. She is happy to be in a house that meets all her needs in her golden years. I hope Maggie lives out all her nine lives with me by her side. Maggie is now about fourteen years old. She weighed 8 pounds last year and only seven this year. I took her to my Vet, and she was treated for diabetes and cancer. Her test came back normal. She shivers when it gets cold, so I left my heated cat beds plugged in longer than usual. She has been doing OK this summer and is in no pain. She loves to eat canned cat food and cat treats, which she gets every day. She still likes going outdoors, rolling around on the hot sidewalk, and munching grass. I may have to have her put to sleep before winter if she has lost more weight, as she cannot tolerate the cold even with a heater running and heated cat beds. I never want to see any pet or animal suffer.

Love Of Cats

The Love Of Cats

Rescuing Cats

I have rescued many cats over the years. I have saved little kittens dumped in our field in the middle of the winter. I have adopted cats that I have found wandering around in restaurant parking lots. I have adopted farm cats and kittens. I have adopted cats the owners gave away because they were having a baby. I have taken in all different ages of cats and kittens. Most cats and kittens I have taken in have had excellent, pleasant, friendly dispositions.

Make A Nice Pleasant Environment For Your New Feline Friend

Make a nice warm area where your cat can relax and hide until he gets used to his new home. Put out a new litter box for him, fresh water, and plenty of cat food. I put out a new cat bed with a new fluffy towel for him to sleep on. Put out various cat toys for your new cat to enjoy. Introduce your new cat very, very slowly into a multi-cat household. I generally keep the new cat in the bathroom for three days so they can smell each other under the bathroom door and avoid a lot of unnecessary cat fights when they get together later on.

Shower Your New Cat With Lots Of Attention

Hold and pat your new cat on the head and scratch him under the chin. Give him lots of cat treats and play interactive games with him. Cats love playing with a fish on the end of a string or getting goodies from a cat treat dispenser. Let your new cat know that he is loved but do not ignore your other cats, or they will be very jealous of the newcomer.

Praise Your Cat For Good Behavior

Reward your new cat when you tell him something is off-limits and he obeys your command. Give him some tuna canned water or his favorite cat treats. Never yell or scream at your cat; he will always be terrified of seeing you. Be kind and gentle with any pet. Your new cat will try to please you to the best of his ability, so just be patient and understanding. A calm, pleasant voice will always get the best results.

A Lifetime Feline Friend

You will have your cat for many years if he is treated right, loved, cared for, and has the right genetic makeup for a long life. Take your cat to your Vet for yearly shots and checkups, as a pound of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as the old saying goes. Your cat will be by your side when you do not feel well, and he will do his best to nurse you back to health by purring away and being your constant companion in your time of need. Trust earns the love of cats, and that trust should never be broken as it is a golden trust.

Memorable And Honor Roll Cats

Memorable and Honor Roll Cats

I have had many cats in my life. All of my cats have made a significant impression on my life.

Flossie was my very first cat. I have a picture of my Father showing her to me in my baby stroller. It was love at first sight for cats for the rest of my life. Flossie would sit with me while I swung in my swing set. She would wait with me while I waited for the school bus. She was a constant and comforting friend.

Blacknose was Flossie’s kitten. She was a beautiful Calico cat. I have a picture of both of us on my tricycle. She has her paws hanging over the handlebars and is looking straight ahead. She was a loving cat like her Mother.

2014-01-06 12.10.36

Blackie and her son Midnight were beautiful cats. Blackie had many kittens in her ten years of life. She was an excellent huntress. When I would sit on the steps of my house, she would always sit in my lap and purr away. Midnight was a shiny and gorgeous black cat. He was a good hunter.

Hoover was a beautiful yellow and white striped female cat. I named her after are vacuum cleaner. I was only five years old then. Hoover put up with me holding her like a five-year-old would.

Schnitzel was a yellow and white cat that tolerated me dressing him in doll clothes. He was very kind and gentle. He lived to be ten years old.

Leonardo was a long-haired yellow cat that would sit with me under a tree while I did my math homework. Whenever I would do my homework outdoors, he would keep me company. He was an excellent lap cat.

Sebastian started growling one evening as he looked out the picture window. He piqued my curiosity, so I looked out the window and saw a man walking down the gravel road at 9:00 PM. I pulled my shade down after that. When I first brought Sebastian into my house as a kitten, he gathered up all of the toy mice and placed them in a nice row. He wanted me to see that he was an excellent hunter. He lived to be thirteen years old.

Red was a red tabby cat that one of my vets gave me. I bought a circle toy with a ball in the middle from Kmart. Red learned to spin the ball around with his left or right paw. He was very proud of his accomplishment. When company came, Red would show off his skills at batting the ball with his feet. He would look at everyone in the room to ensure they were watching him.

My outdoor cat Maggie kept me company while I wrote this post. She purred away and rubbed against the area where I was working.

I have had too many outstanding cats to mention them all. I am sure you have had memorable and remarkable cats, also.

Picking Out A Gentle Cat For Your Family Pet

Picking Out A Gentle Cat For Your Family Pet

Both Of The Cats Parents Should Be Friendly

Cats will generally have the same attitude towards humans that their parents have. If the cat’s parents like to bite, their kittens will be the same way. If the cat comes from feral parents, the cat will grow up trying to avoid humans at all costs. The cat will sometimes try to bite you for no apparent reason because they do not trust people whatsoever. Ask the cat owner that you are thinking about adopting how friendly her parents were. If they said that her parents like hiding, you should consider adopting another cat. If one of the cat’s parents is warm, the cat will be somewhat familiar but remain timid and may not want to be touched or held for long.

A Gentle Cat Is A Must With Small Children In The House

Small children do not know how to carry a cat correctly. You do not want a cat that will bite them and draw blood. Teach your children to handle the cat correctly when you see them doing it wrong. Having a tolerant cat with small children in your home would be best. The cat could scratch them or bite them on the face. If you fail to give your cat a rabies shot, you might have to take your child to the doctor for stitches and rabies shots. Never leave your child alone, even with a very gentle cat, as the cat may get frightened by something and bite. A wild animal could enter your yard and upset your cat. My cats growing up, were very gentle, and I never got bitten or harmed by them. Their parents were friendly and outgoing cats.

Your New Cat Could Live To Be 21 Possibly, And Be A Wonderful Companion For Your Child For Many Years

By taking a new cat into your home, you commit to your new cat’s well-being for her entire life. You take your cat to annual Vet checkups and keep her shots up to date. Your cat needs fresh water and food daily and a warm, draft-free, friendly place to sleep. Your child will learn to care for one of God’s beautiful creatures on earth. Your cat will snuggle up next to your child at night, and she will be their constant companion through thick and thin. Your cat will play with cat toys that your child will toss in the air for them to pounce on. Your cat will entertain the whole family with some of their antics now and then. Cats will lay on your lap while you watch TV or purr away while you study for a test or read a book. They will make sure your home is rodent-free. Cats have saved their owners from gas leaks and fires and even called 911 to protect their owners’ lives. Cats let their owners know when they are about to have a seizure. Cats add to the spice of life. I have had a cat for my life, and I could not imagine a World without a loving cat.

Are Cats Are Like Family

Are Cats Are Like Family

We think of our cats as family, and they think of us as part of their family. We form very close bonds with our cats. They sleep in our bed with us at night. They sit as close as they possibly can to us. We want them to be as healthy as possible and care very deeply for them. We take them to the vet for their daily checkups and ensure all of their shots are current.

Cats do tend to have a favorite family member in your household. They hold a special place in their heart for that person, and the bond cannot be broken. Cats vie for your attention and always succeed in getting it, whether negative or positive. Humans tend to compete for attention now and then also.

A purring cat will relax almost anyone and give them a better mind. Watching your cat sleeping peacefully makes you want to take a catnap also sometimes. After a hard day of work, a cat is lovely to come home to. They will sit in your lap and purr away and are glad you are back home again to be with them.

We love our cats unconditionally, and they love us because we love them. We shower our cats with fancy beds, toys, food, and more. Are cats make no demands on us except they need food, shelter, water, loving care, and someone to be kind to them all of their nine lives.

Teach your children at a very young age it is not right to harm or injure a defenseless animal. Teach them how to hold a cat correctly, which is not alright to pull the cat’s tail. Children learn by example, so set the bar high on how you treat one of God’s beautiful creatures, thee cat. A cat is a perfect pet for a young child as their pet cat may live to be 18 years old if they are well cared for and have a good genetic makeup.

I cannot imagine a World without a beloved pet cat in it. I hope your cat family member keeps you relaxed and purrs away on your lap for many years. God bless our feline friends.

Your Wondering Tom Cat And Female Cats

Your Wondering Tom Cat And Female Cats

Tom cats will wander away in the spring to mate with the female cats. Sometimes this does not go well for them. If you live in the country, someone may shoot your Tomcat. Some of my Tom cats have gotten run over on the road. If someone likes the looks of your Tom cat, they may keep him. Tom cats get canned in terrible fights with other Tom cats; they may wander into their territory. I used to have three outdoor Toms in the country years ago. A new young Tom wandered into our yard, and my three Toms ganged up on him, and he ran away immediately before any blood was shed.

I have had to doctor some of my Toms over the years as they came home with bitten ears and blood on their face. They did not care too much about my doctoring. I never lost any Toms I doctored, as none of their wounds got infected. I treated them with wound salve and rubbing alcohol, depending on where the damage was located on their body.

Several female cats have taken off for extended stays at someone else’s place. One of my female cats was gone for eight years before she returned home. She was a very gentle cat; I think someone had her for a house cat. They must have let her loose, knowing that she would die soon. She returned home to my farm and died about one month after she returned home. My other female cat never left for over a month before returning home. About 97 percent of my female cats never left our farm.

If your female cat has a large litter of kittens, you must find good homes for them. Call the vet of the party that intends to adopt your kitten and see how they take care of the pets they have now. Ask if you can look at their house and see how their pets look. You can see how clean their home is. Interview them before you trust them with your kitten.

All of my cats are spayed and neutered now. I do not have to worry about finding kittens’ good homes anymore. All of my cats are house cats now. They are safe and sound, and I do not have to worry about the dangers that can happen to outdoor cats. Outdoor cats can be killed or infected by wild animals or coyotes.

My Cats Hierarchy

My Cats Hierarchy

My cats have a definite pecking order. Kohl is my oldest house cat, and he rules the roost. If he sees another cat sitting in my lap, he leaps into my lap, and the younger cat leaves my lap and takes over. Garfunkel is next in line. If Conrad sees Garfunkel on my lap, he will sit on the arm of the recliner until Garfunkel leaves. At least they all take turns sitting on my lap, and there are no fights.

All of my cats have their favorite resting places. One time Kohl took over Conrad’s recliner, so Conrad took over Kohl”s hammock, and after that, no one tried to outmaneuver each other. Kohl always wants to be the first cat in the morning to drink fresh water. When cat treats are handed out, Kohl is always the first to come, but they all get their fair share.

Addi’s family controls the household in my other house, and Cali, my part-Siamese cat. Addi and her Aunt and family make sure they get what they want. Cali is in charge if only two of Addi’s family are in the room. Russ gets along with everyone as he is a very loving cat and refuses to take sides. Cali lost her cat hierarchy when Addi was pregnant with her kittens. Addi was protecting her future family, and she wanted to keep Cali in line so her mindset would cover her kittens. All other cats in my other house would help Addi care for her kittens except Cali. Addi would not let Cali anywhere near her kittens. After Addi’s kittens were grown, Cali was the top cat again.

The cat beds, hammocks, cat trees, and window sill cat beds seem always to be occupied by the same cats. They never seem to have any disagreements about their sleeping arrangements. They all take turns eating in the morning out of their food bowls. Cat snacks must be placed in different areas to ensure everyone gets a snack or two. There are enough heated cat beds so everyone can have their separate bed if they desire. Some of my cats like snuggling up in large heated cat beds.

My cats seem to like different cat toys at other times, so they do not care who plays with a cat toy. Brightly colored cat toys and catnip-filled toys, singing bird toys, circle game toys, and feathers or a fish on the end of a long stick are always winners with my cats. Kohl’s favorite toys are plastic or cloth green frogs.

Cats do have a pecking order or ranking system. My cats seem to agree on a system that works for me, with no bloodshed or missing fur. My cats seem to know that I would not put up with them harming each other, and they behave perfectly well. I hope you and your cats agree on their cat hierarchy standards and your standards for a peaceful and pleasant life together for many years to come.

Cat Personalities

Cat Personalities

My cats have different personalities; some are outgoing, and some prefer to be alone. Some of my cats love to be held and petted; others will let you keep them for a little while, and then they want down. Some of my cats will give you a love nip, and others will draw your blood.

I have had many male and female cats over the years. My male cats will tolerate more and love to be held and made a fuss over for an extended period. My female cats are less tolerant and seem to have a moody personalities. The female cats want to hold on to their terms only.

My cat Kohl is amiable and outgoing. Garfunkel is shy and more reserved. Conrad is a one-person cat. Cali, Faith, and Russ love to press and rub against your legs or hand. Addi is a one-person cat, and her kittens, Mr. Gray, Hilford, and Sherlock, take after their Mother. Maggie is friendly, and her sister is a one-person cat. Peter is timid and very reserved. Nicole wants to be left alone and likes to bite a person’s hand.

Cats tend to have the same personalities that their parents had. I once had a purebred Siamese house cat that was extremely moody. She would be fine one minute, and the next minute, she would bite you without much warning. Siamese cats have their mindset, and we cannot change it.

Most of the cats now are domestic shorthair, Siamese, Persian, and Himalayan, which makes for a more even temperament. I have had purebred Himalayan cats and Maine Coon cats. The Himalayans are very quiet with a beautiful personality. I like the Maine Coon cats. They are long-haired and friendly and have a shrill meow.

When picking out a new cat, look at its parent’s personalities and the breed traits of the cat you are considering, and then you and your new cat will both be happy for many years to come.

Where I Have Adopted Some Of My Cats

Where I Have Adopted Some Of My Cats

My Grandfather found my first cat Flossie in our field. Flossie was a very young kitten, and she was gray and white. She was very friendly and would follow me all over the farm. Flossie had many kittens over the years that I grew very fond of. She and all of her kittens were excellent mousers.

Many of my cats over the years were found in restaurant parking lots. I found one of my house cats Philmoor under a car at Perkins. He was purring away loudly when we pulled into our driveway. He was very friendly and lived to be ten years old. I found one of my calico cats Victoria at a restaurant, and she was waiting by their door for a new owner to rescue her. She had a beautiful calico kitten that looked just like her. I adopted Addi from a restaurant that was partnered with a cat shelter. Addi is an amiable silver tabby cat. Addi had five lovely kittens, and I still have three of them. Her other two kittens found a wonderful and loving home they were adopted into.

I have found several of my house cats in my local newspaper. All of my Siamese cats were found by listings in my newspaper. I adopted Sugar, Ginger, and Tammy. Sugar was a beautiful seal point Siamese cat who kept me company for many years. Ginger was a lynx point Siamese cat, and she was very kind and gentle and lived to be 18 years old. I adopted Tammy, a blue point Siamese cat, from a young couple having a baby. My grandmother had Tammy for many years, and she dearly loved her. Cali, my calico cat, was one of several cats a young couple had. They could not afford to keep all of their cats. Cali is part Siamese, and she is very vocal and beautifully marked.

I adopted Simon and Garfunkel from a restaurant listing on a bulletin board. Their Mother had come to their house pregnant, and they had to find a home for her four kittens. Simon died relatively young of a disease. Garfunkel is a very kind, gentle, and loving house cat.

I have adopted several cats because their owner died, and the family had to find new homes for them. I have adopted stray cats over the years. My vet gave me one of his house cats named Red. He had found Red on a golf course in December. Red was a Red Tabby cat, and he was brilliant. Red lived to be 17 years old. My purebred Maine Coon cat Fresca was given to me by my cousin years ago. About 12 years ago, a kitten was born on my farm that looked almost identical to Fresca.

I have adopted many lovely outdoor cats from farmers and people who have tried to find cat homes in their neighborhoods. Try to adopt and help out a cat needing a safe, warm, loving home. God bless you and your cat family.
