Cats Showing Off

Cats Showing Off

Cats like and crave attention. I had a Red Tabby cat that would play with a circle game toy, and he would make sure that everyone in the room was watching him. He had mastered that game to perfection, and he wanted to make sure everyone knew that.

I had a black house cat that would walk across the curtain rod with the grace of a tightrope walker. He never once lost his balance while he performed his fast rope walk. We had a black outdoor cat that would balance up high on the feed door and then jump down on the shoulder of whoever was by the feed door. She could scare you at 5 in the morning when she landed on your shoulder.

I had a calico cat that would bring dead snakes homes and put them on my doorstep. I guess she wanted to show me what a brave huntress she was. I also had a gray and white female cat take on a skunk, and she won the match except for a bite on her face which healed up quickly. Her rabies shots were up to date, so I did not have to worry about that.

Cats love to do something naughty while you are talking on the phone. I guess they figure even negative attention is attention. They tend to jump on things they know are off-limits while you are chatting away on the phone. I think they also figure that you will not interrupt your conversation to correct their bad behavior at that moment.

I had one cat climb to the top of the barn roof, and she stayed up there for about two whole days before coming down alone. When she was down, she asked me if you worried about her. She knew the answer to that question, as I had been concerned that she might fall to her death.

Conrad

My house cat Conrad can get treats out of any treat dispenser ASAP. He has mastered all of the ones I have very quickly. He loves to play with circle ball toys and is proficient with either paw he uses. He will sit in the middle of the circle game and bat the ball one way and then the other, using a different foot every time.

Cats crave attention and love showing off whenever and however they can. Cats are great entertainers. We would be lost without our cats and their performances.

My Maine Coon Cats Over The Years

My Maine Coon Cats Over The Years

My first Maine Coon cat was given to me by one of my cousins. She was a purebred Maine Coon cat. She arrived at my house in a large wooden chicken crate. My Father told me to look in the box, and I was delighted to have a new car. She had an excellent disposition and got along fine with my other cats. They are not lap cats. They get along very well with children. I would carry her around the farm, and she would wait for the school bus to come and take me to school in the morning.

She had long hair that needed to be brushed out. Once, she got in a burdock patch; it took quite a while to get all of those out of her hair. One time Fresca lost her entire coat of fur. It more or less just all came off one day. She grew back a beautiful new skin of hair. Some cats will have this happen to them. They can get a fungus or groom themselves too much. Take your cat to your vet if she loses her coat; he can help her. I named her Fresca after the Fresca soda pop. She was a wonderful and kind cat. She lived to be 12 years old.

Years later, I had Leonardo, and he would sit under an old weeping birch tree with me while I did my Algebra. Leonardo lived to be ten years old, and he was a red tabby color. Years later, I had Fluffy, and she had several short hair kittens. Fluffy’s Father looked identical to her, with long red tabby color hair. Fluffy’s Mother was a gray tabby cat. Fluffy had several cream-colored male kittens and a female calico kitten. Her calico kitten had a black and white male kitten and another calico kitten.

I adopted Snowflake from a woman whose Mother died, and she had to find a home for her Mother’s cat. Snowflake was very friendly and loving. She liked all of my other cats immediately. She wanted to be patted and brushed. She died at about age fifteen.

About 30 years after I had Fresca, a male kitten named Cool Cat was born on my farm, and he looked identical to Fresca after 30 years had passed. I gave him to one of my cousins, and he is a house cat and a cherished pet.

I now have Peter, a beautiful bi-color black and white Maine Coon cat. He was born on my farm. His Father was a black cat named Onyx that was part Siamese, Persian, Himalayan, domestic short hair, and Maine Coon cat. His Mother was a gray tabby. Peter loves to watch me when I feed him and clean out the litter boxes in the morning.

I adopted Nola. She was part of Maine Coon cat and Himalayan. She had Sophia, Lorenzo, and Maxwell. Lorenzo is still alive and well. The rest of the cat family died very young. Sophia lived to be six years old. Nola died at age four. Maxwell was only one year old when he died. The average life span for Maine Coon cats is 10 to 13 years. A few have made it to 15 years.

I hope you may have the pleasure of owning a Maine Coon cat sometime in your life. They are lovely, kind, and loving house cats.

Why We Are Drawn To Cats

Why We Are Drawn To Cats

Cats’ facial features mimic a human baby, so we find them very appealing. Cats keep the rodent population down and protect us from diseases the rodents spread. They sit on our laps, purring away, licking our fingers, or rubbing against us. Having a feline friend reduces your blood pressure and helps reduce your stress also. Cats look at us lovingly, blink their eyes, and roll over on their backs for belly rubs. When a cat rolls over on his back, he shows you that he trusts you 100 %.

Cats Know Their Names

Cats do know their names. Cats only choose to come to us when they feel like coming to us. Research published in a nature magazine suggests that 78 cats out of 78 cats knew their name. Cats are very independent creatures and cope better at being alone than a dog.

Cats Improve Your Sleep

Sleeping with your cats can improve your sleep. People who let their cats sleep with them at night tend to fall asleep faster. You keep your cat warm in bed, and he keeps you warm. Your cat’s breathing pattern reduces stress, and you feel at ease and relaxed.

Cats Like Us

You give your cat food and shelter; his instincts make him want to be your pal. Cats follow us because they like us and want to know where we are when they feel hungry. Are cats rubbing against our faces because they want to put their scent on us? Their scent warns other cats that we already have a feline friend and that the new cat should back off.

Cats Are Relaxing To Watch

Just watching a cat play or rest is very relaxing. Your cat is at peace, and therefore, you are at ease, also. Cats are very entertaining—some things your cat does seem almost unbelievable. I had a pool table at once, and my Siamese cat would watch the balls roll into the pockets. She seemed to know almost before I did if the ball would make it into the bag. Cats feel comfortable and safe in small spaces. I had a cat hiding in a box of Christmas decorations, and it took me a long time before I discovered her hiding spot. My Grandmother had a cat that hid in a shoe box, and the lid remained perfectly on top of the shoe box. A friend of hers discovered her cat’s hiding spot.

Living With A Cat Can Give You Nine Lives

I love holding my cats and patting them on top of their heads. I lavish them with toys, heated beds, water bowls, cat treats, and all the affection they can handle. I take them to the vet for their annual checkups and necessary shots. I want my cats to live long, happy, and healthy life. Cats ad to the spice of life. I am sure having cats in my life gives me nine lives, also. My feline friends all have different and pleasing personalities. Curl up with your cat on your lap and think how you have blessed each other with your presence in each other’s life.

Cats At Play

Cats At Play

Kittens start by trying to grab their Mother’s tail as she swishes it back and forth. They love to play with maple tree helicopters, jump in loose leaves, and chase the leaves as the wind moves them around. They love to play with a medium size ball of aluminum foil. One of my cats had a fetish with sponges; she would remove them from my sink and play with them. I ended up purchasing a lot of new sponges for my dishwashing needs.

Cats Can Play With Almost Any Cat Toy

Cats can play with any toy that seems to catch their fancy. Empty toilet paper rolls are a big hit with some cats. When cats catch a mouse, they love the catch-and-release technique until the mouse dies. Kittens start wrestling with their brothers and sisters to see who the top cat is. In my house, next door Cali is the head of the household. Cali is part Siamese, which is why she has been able to hold on to her position as the top matron of the house. Cali does not hurt or harm the other cats, but she has her way of letting them know she rules the roost. She was the first to try out my new Litter -Robot litter box. All of the other cats learned how it worked from her.

Cats Learn From Each Other

When a new cat toy is placed in your house, one cat seems to go for it ASAP, and then the other cats in your home learn how to use it by watching your leed cat. I have a cat treat dispenser that Conrad mastered, and Kohl and Garfunkel have also gotten their fair share of treats. The circle game toy is an excellent example. My cat Red had the circle toy mastered to perfection. He was ambidextrous, and the ball would speed around the track like greased lightning. Philmoor watched Red, and he was able to master the circle ball toy.

Cats learn from watching one another very quickly. My cats come running when I call them by name. Kohl likes to brush my hair with his paws now and then. Garfunkel loves to lick my fingers, and Conrad occasionally gives little love nips. My cats love to roll around on warm cement and eat fresh grass and catnip. Cats are curious creatures and can make a game almost out of anything.

Treat Your Cat To New Cat Toys

Treat your cat to a new cat toy or make one from things you have in your home that would be pet friendly. Watching a cat or kitten at play is very relaxing. If you have a cat toy with a string and a fish on the end of it, you and your cat can interact together. Your cat will love the extra attention that he is getting. When he is done playing, he will probably purr away until he falls soundly asleep in your lap. I hope you and your cat have many years to interact together.

Cats Are very Compassionate

Cats Are Very Compassionate

Cats know when you are not feeling well. My cats will lay by my side and gently purr away. I have three house cats, who take turns watching over me when I am under the weather. When one cat leaves for a while, another quickly fills the empty spot.

Cats have compassion for one another. If one cat is not feeling up to Parr, another cat will lie down as close as possible to his sick friend. Female cats will help care for each other’s kittens. I observed one female cat catching a mouse to feed another female cat’s kittens.

Cats have been known to nurse baby puppies, opossums, ferrets, and other small animals. One cat had adopted three baby squirrels that she raised and her four kittens. Cats have been burned badly in a fire trying to save all of their kittens. Unfortunately, many cats have awakened their owners to let them know there is a fire in their house, only to succumb to the fire themselves. Cats have alerted their owners to gas leaks and much more.

Cats will lie next to people dying in a rest home. It is the cat’s way of comforting them in their final moments. When my Mother died, my Siamese cat Sugar would sit on the bathtub’s edge and cry out or wail for one straight week. She remembered my Mother would buy cat food for her and other goodies and take her to her vet visits when she was sick.

I had one cat raised in a vet’s office, and rodents were not to be killed as they were someone’s pets. My other cat saw a mouse and intended to have brunch. My cat, raised in the vet’s office, embraced the mouse by encircling it with his feet. My other cat was in shock, thinking, Isn’t we supposed to kill those?

Cats care for their owners very much, and we care for our feline friends very much. Cats show compassion for each other and other animals. Cats comfort those in need of comfort and show great empathy.

The Calming Effects Of Cats

The Calming Effect Of Cats

Cats are there for you when you come home from a hard work day. Your cat sits on your lap, purrs gently, and licks your hand. Your cat is relaxed, and you feel more flexible with your cat’s presence.

Cats love to play with toy mice and balls and catnip toys. Watching your cat play with his favorite toys is fun and calming. Cats are full of adventure, and their various antics make our faces smile. Cats can sleep in the oddest positions. Garfunkel was sleeping on my refrigerator with his paws over his eyes to keep out the morning light. Conrad loves to sleep in a recliner with his long feet and paws hanging over the side. Kohl sleeps in a heated cat bed and snores away. Garfunkel also sleeps in a thermal bed, and Conrad likes a Meowfia cave bed that women in Africa make.

Calming Effects Of Cats

Being around cats lowers your blood pressure and relieves stress and anxiety from your day. Cats show you unconditional love and companionship. Cats seem to know when you are sick and lay beside you and comfort you to the best of their ability.

Cats Are very Loving Animals.

Cats are very caring creatures. Cats will look at you lovingly and with soulful eyes. Your cat will never judge you or complain about unnecessary things. Cats are compassionate about helping out other pets also. My cats were best friends with a pet goat that I once had. My cats and the goat would sleep together in a large dog house. I once had a small dog that would share her home with one of my cats and all her kittens, and they would even go hunting together. My small dog would babysit my cat’s kittens if she wanted to leave for a little while.

You Have Better Health With A Pet In Your Life

It has been proven that people that have pets have fewer health problems and live longer because of the calming effects that pets have in our lives. A hectic day became wonderful once I came home to my beloved cat.

What My Cats Do Everyday

What My Cats Do Everyday

My cats have their daily routines down to a science. My house cats sleep on my bed at night, in one of their cat beds, or on a large fluffy mat that the sun shines on in the daytime. My cats stop at the litter box, food, and water bowl to start their morning. They take turns looking out the picture window at the birds eating out of their bird feeders.

Kohl starts his morning rummaging through his toy box for the perfect cat toys to play with for the day. Garfunkel is on my bed now, watching my blog away. Conrad is in his recliner, taking his first catnap at 10:00 AM. Garfunkel will go back to watching birds when I am finished with this blog post.

Conrad will toss his green snail up in the air, and Kohl will play with any toy frog he can find, along with toy mice, a stuffed hedgehog, and more. All of my house cats like to get their cat treats out of cat treat dispensers, except for Garfunkel. Garfunkel wants his treat placed in front of him. Around 1:00  PM, it is time for catnap number 2. Garfunkel likes to watch animals, westerns, and car racing on TV. At 4:00 PM, it is time for catnap number 3.

At 7:00 PM, my house cats take a last look at the birds for the day. Their last catnap of the day is a little after 7:00 PM. They eat a little bit of cat food before bedtime. When I go to bed, they go to bed.

My cat’s next door sit on their cat trees and watch the birds and me. Peter or Faith is on the lookout for cats in the morning, and they seem to tell the other cats that I am up and will be over soon to tend to their needs and wants for the day. I find them sleeping in their cat beds, hammocks, sizeable fluffy cat mat, and on guard in the cat trees. They come running once I open the door. I give them fresh water, fill up their food dishes, and clean out the litter boxes, except for the automatic ones that get cleaned once a week. Cali and Mr. Gray immediately deposit the litter box so I can clean it out before I leave for the morning. They watch me open up a nice can of cat food for a little extra snack for the day for them. They take turns eating their portions of the delicious canned treat.

I find various cat toys lying on the floor when I arrive in the morning. Toy mice stuffed with catnip are a big hit, along with singing birds, balls, and a bat whose stomach lights up when it is tossed around. They love it when I pat or brush them on the head in the morning.

All of my cats love and enjoy different toys and games. My cats have learned my routine for what time frame I will take care of them. My cats give me joy and love every day of my life.

In Memory Of Peter MY Pet Cat

In Memory Of Peter My Pet Cat

My cat Peter was one of Lizzie’s three kittens. He is a gorgeous black-and-white long-haired cat, and he is part Siamese, Himalayan, Maine Coon, and domestic short hair. His Fathers name was Onyx, and he was a pure black cat. Onyx lived to be 15 years old.

Peter was born in an outdoor cat building that had a heated water bowl and heated cat beds. He would disappear when I opened the cat building door, still timid. He does watch me when I clean out the litter boxes. He will come out for certain canned cat foods and cat treats.

I adopted a cat named Addi from Wisconsin. She is part Silver Tabby. Peter found Addi irresistible, and they had five kittens together. They had adopted Mr. Gray, Sherlock, Hilford, Leo, and Cleo, and they lived the good life in their new home.

Peter helped Addi care for her kittens. He would play with them, and they would snuggle up with him. Two of my neutered Toms, Russ and Lorenzo, would babysit the kittens. Addi would not let the female cats in the house near her kittens.

Peter and Addi are still very close. Peter and Addi are both fixed; I do not want more kittens. I have 11 cats in the other house and three in my home. Mr. Gray is friendly, and Hilford and Sherlock take after their Father, Peter, as they are shy and reserved.

Peter will watch me from on top of his cat tree to see when I might be coming over with cat treats or canned food for him and his family. Sometimes I will see Peter come out of a large heated cat bed, followed by Hilford, Sherlock, Mr. Gray, and Addi or Nicole, his sister. Since she is Peter’s sister, she is accepted as part of their cat family. Conrad Peters’s brother is one of my house cats.

Peter is gorgeous and has an excellent family that deeply loves and cares for each other. Purrs to you and yours.

It is with profound sorrow that I had ot put  Peter to sleep today. He had developed a horrible case of diarrhea from an underlying serious illness. He was an excellent Father cat, and he did not live that much longer after I had to put Addi to sleep. He never got over the loss of Addi, the Mother of his kittens. Peter was a beautiful cat that always enjoyed tower patrol. He liked to play with catnip cat toys. He had a close bond with his family for twelve years. It is tough to lose a Dear pet cat. he lives on through his children and in my memories. I am sure he crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, and he is with his parents, aunt, brother, and sister.

Cats and Storms

Cats and Storms

My cats can get very upset when a storm is coming. My cats will run and hide in the basement. If my cats are in bed with me at night, they will meow nervously. My cats tend to lay as close to me in bed if it is thundering. I had one cat look up at the heavens when it grumbled loudly, and a tornado warning was issued. Suddenly, she ran to the basement, and I decided to follow suit. The winds were horrific, and I lost large branches from the trees and the roof of one of my buildings. The cats and I were OK.

I have trained my cats to run down to the basement when I call them. Cat Treats are an excellent way to train your cat. You do not have time to locate all your cats when a tornado rapidly approaches your home. All I have to do is call my cats with a sense of urgency in my voice, and they join me safely in the basement of my home.

Animals have a keen sense of the weather, and one should always take their cues regarding the weather situation. My friend had a cat that ran under her couch when they issued a tornado warning on the radio. When they sounded all clear, she came out from under the couch one minute later.

Conrad

My cats often move around in the basement when the winds are horrific. If my cats look out of a window, they watch the tree branches move back and forth. Their tails swing rapidly back and forth as they state their distaste for the weather through their wild tail movement. Listen to your cats’ keen sense of weather changes. I hope you and your cats survive the storms in nature.

Red's Story

Red’s Story

Red was a Red tabby cat. My vet gave Red to me after I had to put my Siamese house cat, Sugar, to sleep. My vet found Red abandoned on a golf course in the middle of December. My vet’s wife had trained Red to stay off the countertops.

Red got along fine with my other house cat Ginger that I had then. Red was brilliant. If I asked Red do you want to go outdoors, he would head right toward the door. He liked to tease me when it was time for him to return to my house. Red would take off running when I almost caught him to take him back into my home. Red would do this about three times before I could finally carry him back into my house.

Red’s favorite toy was a circle toy ball game. Red was ambidextrous and would hit the ball with either paw. Red also wanted to make sure you were watching him play his ball game. Red was very proud that he had entirely mastered the circle toy ball game. I rescued a cat that I found under a car one day at a restaurant, and I named him Philmoor. Philmoor caught on to the circle toy ball game immediately, and Red felt terrible about that. Red hardly ever played with his favorite toy after  Philmoor mastered the circle toy ball game.

Red was an amiable and outgoing cat. Red loved the attention of other people, and he thrived on it. Red liked sleeping on my bed at night with my other two house cats.

At the age of 17, Red’s spine gave out. Red could no longer control his urine. My vet said some older cats develop a defect in their spine late in life. I had Red put to sleep at my vet’s office. Red was a wonderful, kind, outgoing, and loving cat.
