Why I Like To Travel

I like to travel because I discover something new and exciting everywhere. A new adventure is always around every corner.

Every place that you go has an exciting history. I love to find out the history of buildings. I am interested in the kind of businesses in that building over the years. One restaurant that I went to in England was called the Farrier. The restaurant used to be a stable for horses. I love to look at the beautiful architecture of the many different buildings and houses. I find it interesting how architecture has changed over the years in the various places I have visited.

It is fun to visit with the people you meet while traveling. I would like to know if they have lived in that area. I ask them what brought them to that particular area of the country. Sometimes they leave a room due to a job or health reasons. People have had to go where they grew up because of civil unrest or how an estate was distributed at the time of a relative’s death. Older persons like to move to the southern states in their old age. The warmer climate is better for aches and pains.

I love to try new foods when I am traveling. I love to sample foods familiar to that particular region of the country. I love the different seasonings and spices in the various foods worldwide. I love to test the multiple desserts that they have to offer. It is fun to listen to the owners of different restaurants tell you about the family history behind some of their recipes.

Traveling is a beautiful learning experience for all age groups. Traveling is an excellent way to learn about the history of people, countries, and buildings. Travel until you are no longer able.

The Manx Cat from the Isle of Man

My friend and I went to the Isle of Man. We thought we might as well see some Manx cats while we were there. A lady that had raised them for years had died. I asked our waitress where we might be able to see some Manx cats. She told us to go to the Humane Society there. We found out that they closed in only one hour. We took a taxi to the Humane Society. He drove very fast. We made it to the Humane Society barely before closing time. We saw two Manx cats for only two minutes. One of the Manx cats was a gray-striped cat with a stub tail. The other Manx cat was a light cream-colored tuxedo cat with a stub tail. I patted both of the cats on their head. They were both amiable cats.

One of the ladies at the shelter told me about the Manx cats and their history. I will write what I remember from her conversation with me. The Manx cat originated on the Isle of Man. Taillessness rarely occurs in cat populations as an unexpected mutation. If they are bred with other cats, the conversion will usually disappear. If they are kept on the Isle of Man, they can survive.

Manx cats date back to before the 1700s. They weigh from 8 to 12 pounds. They have a gentle and even temperament. They have a thick and double coat of fur. Their heads are large and rounded, and their nose is medium length.

One account of how they lost their tails was when Noah was closing the doors of Ark. He had to close the doors suddenly as the water started to rise quickly.

In 1588 one of the ships of the Spanish armada had a tailless Tom cat on board. The ship sank, and the cat swam a shore and started breeding. This may be believable because Manx cats like water.

King Edward the 7th is said to have owned some Manx cats.

Manx cats are brilliant and friendly and are excellent hunters.

The Isle of Man has minted a coin with the image of the Manx cat on it. I bought one of their coins as a souvenir of my trip.

I truly enjoyed my trip to the Isle of Man and seeing the wonderful Manx cats.

If you want to bathe your cat, start them out with a bath at four months of age or more. Trying to bathe an adult cat can be pretty challenging. The adult cat will leap around in the bathtub and try to escape. He will try to scratch you, also. The cats I started bathing at four months old never put up a fight.

If you take your cat to a groomer, ensure they are certified. I took one of my adult cats to a groomer, which was a complete disaster. They did not know how to handle a cat. They told me they tied him to a chain to give him his bath. My poor cat bit on the chain and lost about 5 to 7 front teeth; needless to say, I never took any of my cats to bathe again.

Cats are generally quite fastidious and, therefore, do not need a bath most of the time. They need a bath if they get dirty or have a lot of dandruff. You will also want to bathe a cat that has fleas. I would use flea dip and or flea soap. Use mildly warm water for your cat’s bath, and do not get his head wet.

When bathing your cat, sprinkle water over him. Do not run water directly on him; your cat will think you are trying to drown him. Rinse off the soap by splashing water lightly over him. Dry him off with a lot of dry towels. Some cats, but not many, will tolerate a hair dryer to dry them off. Always bathe your cat in a warm area. Soaking in a cold area could result in a trip to your vet.

I had a Siamese cat that would not tolerate bathing at all. I used a waterless shampoo that you just rubbed on her, and then you would gently rub it off. After her dry bath, her coat would be bright and shiny.

Do not bathe your kitten until it is at least four months old. You would not want your kitten to get sick.

I hope this helps you from not getting harmed the next time you bathe your cat.

The Relationships of Cats and Dogs

Our first dog was half German Shepherd and Boxer when I was growing up. Her name was Sally. Sally got along fine with all of our cats.

We got a Samoyed dog after Sally died at the age of fourteen. She did not like cats. She would chase a Himalayan tom cat around and around the house. One day he said to himself enough of this. They ended up facing each other one day. Bandit leaped onto Polly’s nose and dug his claws into her nose. Polly got along fine with all of our cats after that.

We had two German Shepherds at different times. We had Molly and Joshua. They got along fine with most of the cats we had then.

We adopted Jitters. Jitter was a miniature lab, dash hound, and rat terrier mix. She dearly loved all cats. She would even babysit the cat’s kittens. The cats would sleep in her dog house along with her.

We had a black lab for a little while. She hated all cats. All she wanted to do was to chase cats and torment them.

I had a Samoyed and Great Pyrenees mix dog named Bear. He killed several of my kittens that were half-grown. By the time he reached four years old, he had left my cats alone. He liked one calico cat that I had. She slept in the dog house with him. Bear died of cancer at almost eight years old.

We also had a Husky mix dog that was fine with cats. He came to our house on my father’s birthday one year.

If you have cats and dogs, introduce them to each other when they are both young. If they grow up together, they should be lifelong friends. I hope your cats and dogs get along fine together.

Life is a fleeting moment, so do not say or do anything you do not mean. There will come a day you cannot return your spoken word.

Life is a fleeting moment, so live to your full potential and let your dreams come true. Live your life for the future, not the past, But hold the history and sacred memories close to your heart and never let them go.

Life is but a fleeting moment. Like an arrow shot into the night, You never know exactly where it went or where all the time went in your life.

Treat all the people you love like there is no tomorrow. Remember, you can never take back the spoken word or the sped arrow because life is a fleeting moment.

My Memories of Amy Hild

I am writing a blog about a dear blogger friend who died in a car accident.

Amy represented Joy,Hope,Love, and Peace to me.

Whenever you saw her, there was an instant of joy. Her kind smile filled you with pleasure. Her uplifting personality always gave you a lift.

You always felt at peace when you talked to her. Amy had a very kind and caring nature.

There was always love in Amy’s heart. She gave her love fully and willingly to everyone she met. The minute she entered a room, there was an incredible feeling in your heart from her presence there.

She always gave you hope. If you needed anything, Amy was always there for you.

I remember the day I spent with Amy in Hampton, Iowa. She had spun a wheel at a local bank at the fairgrounds in Hampton, Iowa. She won a chance to go into their money tent. Amy entered the tent, smiling and laughing as she caught some money flying. She was so pleased and vibrant that day.

Amy was an outstanding citizen. She had a heart of gold.

The last thing that Amy ever said was I would help you, Laura.

I will miss her terribly.
