Minnesota National Eagle Center

National Eagle Center located in Wabasha, Minnesota

I spent a wonderful fall weekend in Minnesota. Wabasha had a fantastic fall festival. They had the largest pumpkin contest. The winning pumpkin came in at 1193 pounds. People were selling their excellent fall harvest produce and lots of craft items.

My friend and I visited the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota. The Eagle Center is located just 80 miles south of the Twin Cities. Their admission is only 8.00 dollars for adults and $6.00 for Senior Citizens, and youth are $5.00, and three and under are free of charge.

20151010_131133

I was very impressed with my visit to the Eagle Center. The visit was very informative and educational. Our guide was very knowledgeable. I was taken aback by the size of the Eagle’s nest. The nest is 8 feet wide by 4 feet deep—the Bald Eagle dwarfs most other raptors, including the Turkey Vulture and the Red-Tailed Hawk. The Eagle has a heavy body, a large head, and a long hooked bill. A Bald Eagle in flight holds its broad wings like a board. The female Eagles are 25 % larger than the males. Bald Eagles use forested areas for nesting and roosting. Their nest is located close to the water for good fishing. They scavenge dead animals and steal prey from other raptors if an opportunity presents itself. Their lifespan can be up to 28 years in the wild.

20151010_131111

I saw four live Eagles that were living in the center. There were three bald Eagles and one Golden Eagle. The Eagles had been hit by cars or had been shot by hunters. One of the Eagles was blind in one eye. A female Eagle had one wing that was so severely damaged that she could no longer fly. I was surprised by how giant the Eagles were. When you see an Eagle soaring in the air, they do not appear that pretty large. One of the Eagles almost died from lead poisoning. Still, luckily, their veterinarian saved her life—The Eagles naturally were constantly very aware of what was happening around them.

20151010_131959

They have a wonderful gift shop. They had calendars with pictures of Eagles, T-Shirts, Sweat Shirts, and many more wonderful gift items or souvenir items.

I would highly recommend attending the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota. Your family will be very impressed with looking at their Eagles and learning about these fine majestic raptors.

Outdoor Cat Building

Outdoor Cat Building

My Father made a building for my outdoor cats. He built the structure for my cats because he knew how much I loved cats.

The building is made with two by 4’s and outdoor plywood. The cat building is insulated and is set on skids, so it does not touch the ground. There is a shelf in the building that my cats can sit on. One side of the building has an old chicken nest filled with fresh straw for my cats to sleep in. I have a shelf by the window in the building that is a good place for my cats to take a sun bath while they lay there. I have a heated stainless steel water dish for my cats in winter. There is an enclosed heated cat bed for my cats to get cozy during cold winter nights. I also have a heated mat with a cover over it.

20151007_150357

The original cat flap wore out over the years. I made a new opening out of a piece of plywood. I took a large coffee can and marked around it on the part of plywood. I used a jigsaw to cut out the opening on the piece of plywood.

20151007_150416

Raccoons were eating up my cat food. A friend told me how to make the opening raccoon-proof. I took several pieces of ductwork for a furnace and fastened them together at different angles. The raccoons cannot maneuver the different angles and, therefore, cannot get in my cat building anymore to eat up all my cat food in the middle of the night.

20151007_150443

I put an oil stain on my cat building yearly to protect the plywood from the elements. My outdoor cats love the building my Father so kindly made for them. I hope your cats have an excellent facility to stay safe and cozy.

Tom Cats and Their Own Kittens

Tom Cats and Their Own Kittens

My Tom cat Peter is an excellent father. Peter loves to watch his kittens play. He lets the kittens play with his tail now and then.

20150427_150742

I have watched Peter looking at his kittens. One day, he sat on the floor staring at his kittens as if he could not believe they were his ones. Peter will sit on a high shelf and watch his kittens play until he falls asleep. Peter will wrestle gently with his kittens. I have seen him with his paw wrapped around one of his kittens.

Hilford and Sherlock love to hide back a piece of plywood with their father, Peter. He is never mean to his kittens. Peter never growls or hits his kittens with his paws. He is a very kind and loving father. Sherlock was scratching the scratching post one morning, and Peter joined in.

If Peter thinks his kittens are not behaving correctly, he will step in the middle of their disagreements and break up any harmful interactions between his kittens. Mr. Gray likes to wrestle with his father. Peter always plays with him gently and kindly.

Peter loves to be up on a shelf or cat bed shelf or lying back on his piece of plywood. Peters’s mother was timid, and Peter took after her. Mr. Gray is very outgoing and playful. Hilford and Sherlock are very shy, like their father.

I gave Leo and Cleo away to a very loving and caring home. They were more outgoing and playful than their mother, Addy. Leo and Cleo like to sit up on something high as their father does.

Peter worships his kittens, and he watches over them every day. His kittens love to take a nap next to him. I will find them with their paws wrapped around each other in total comfort.

Ireland The Giant's Causeway located in Ireland

Giant’s Causeway located in Ireland

The Giant’s Causeway is a unique and wondrous masterpiece of science and nature. The rock formations were formed 60 million years ago by the cooling and shrinking of successive lava flows.

20150831_072830

The Giant’s  Causeway has a lot of myths and legends that go along with it. The code is that the coast was carved by a mighty giant, Finn MC Cool; he left behind a home full of folklore. The causeway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a geological masterpiece with over 40,000 interlocking basalt columns. The causeway is the result of lots of volcanic and geological activity. The causeway became known in the late 1700s.

20150831_072656

I truly enjoyed looking at all the volcanic formations that formed over the 60 million-year span. I liked looking at the buildings called the onion skins. They were covered with a white color that looked like it was peeling away from the rock formations. The rock formation called Giant Finn rock organ looked like the pipes of a real working organ. Legend has it that you can hear Finn playing his rock organ on a windy day. There is a formation that looks like a camel. One of the rock formations is called the Giant’s boot. It is said that the Giant was running and lost one of his boots.

I was fascinated by the different plant life growing between the rocks on the ground. I took pictures of many other colorful small flowering plants. The bed was very soft and boggy to walk on. Allow at least one hour to look at the rock formations and listen to the guided tour. I enjoyed looking at the rock columns and all the mighty acts of nature, science, and miracles.

20150828_083229

I would highly recommend stopping at the Giant’s Causeway located in Ireland. I guarantee you will be impressed with what Mother Nature can form over the years.

Benefits of Having a Cat Life in the Day of a Cat

Life in the Day of a Cat

My cats start their mornings by giving me fresh water and cat food. I then clean out their litter boxes. They always drink the fresh water that I have put out for them. My cats eat some of their cat food. The cats then run upstairs and look out of my picture window at the birds eating from my various bird feeders. Conrad and Kohl look through their cat toy box and select the toy of interest for the day to play with. They consistently choose at least one toy that is filled with catnip. They will throw the catnip toy up in the air and then lick it later. They take turns sitting on my lap later on in the day.

20150616_130227

My cat family next door starts their day with fresh water and food and clean cat litter boxes. Lorenzo constantly licks my hand every morning after I clean out the litter box. The kittens play with their Mother’s tail and the various cat toys in the house. The adult cats love to sit on the windowsill cat beds and watch the world go by. All of my cats like the cat scratching post combination cat beds. They love to chase each other playfully throughout the house. When I check on them throughout the day, they are generally lying on one of the cat beds and looking outdoors at nature. I give them cat treats and canned cat food as an afternoon snack. I hold them, pat them on their heads, and scratch them under their chins. My cat Russ enjoys being in his enclosed Cat Playpen.

My outdoor cats start their mornings with an early morning hunt. They like to hunt in the ditches and the cornfield for mice. My outdoor cats are all good mousers. I give them fresh water and cat food in the morning. I will find them lying in the shade and relaxing on a hot day. When I have had outdoor kittens, they love to play with leaves that blow around in the wind. In the winter months, they sleep in their heated cat beds. They always have water to drink in the winter with their heated water bowl for pets. They have some tennis balls to bat around in their building.

I hope you and your cat have a wonderful and lovely day.

Breast Cancer Signs of a Sick Cat

Breast Cancer in Your Female Cat

My cat Sugar died from breast cancer. I got Sugar when she was eight years old. She was my first house cat. She was a purebred Siamese. She loved to lay on my lap and sleep in bed with me. She loved to play with tiny sponges. She would gather up any she saw lying around the house. She would toss them up in the air and catch them. Sugar loved to catch flies in her paw and eat them.

image

Sugar was a very talkative cat. She would meow loudly. A Siamese cat, indeed, sounds like a baby crying.

Sugar was not declawed, and I loved going outdoors occasionally. She would eat grass outdoors. Eating grass helps dislodge your cat’s hairballs.

Sugar grew up in a house that had birds. I had a parakeet. She would sit and watch him sing for hours. When my parakeet died at age ten, she was unfortunate.

Sugar loved to go for car rides. Sugar would sit on my lap and look at the scenery as we drove.

I noticed a lump on one of Sugar’s breast one day. I took her to my vet, and he removed the cancerous lump. The test of the breast tissue removed came back positive for breast cancer. Sugar was eating well and seemed to be getting along fine.

A new lump appeared on her breast. My vet gave her a shot that seemed to slow the growth of the cancerous tumor. Sugar had many growths in a couple of years.

Cancer covered all of her breasts toward the end of her life. Sugar was now sixteen years old. I called my vet to make an appointment to have her put to sleep. I had a burial box with cat toys and a towel to wrap her in. I took her home and buried her. I missed her terribly for a long time.

I never want to see a beloved pet suffer. I remember all of the beautiful times together that we had.

I hope your cat never gets breast cancer.

Food Supplements and Vitamins for Cats

Food Supplements and Vitamins for Cats

I give food supplements to my cats if they are not feeling well.

I had a cat dying from lung cancer; I gave him cod liver oil and omega – 3 liquid form supplements. I also gave him Brewer’s Dried Yeast Formula with garlic and fortified vitamins in a pill form. I had a cat dying from liver cancer. I gave him Omega – 3 and vitamins. I think it helped them a little.

My house cat Kohl has been sneezing off and on. I started giving him Brewer’s Yeast with vitamins. He seems to be better now.

20140603_140931

When I have had pregnant cats on the farm, I give them vitamins. I pour a liquid form of vitamins over their cat food. Vitamins provide the pregnant cat a little boost to her body to help with her pregnancy. I have also sprinkled Brewer’s Yeast on her food. Yeast is a good form of vitamin B.

Your vet will have different kinds of cat food available with supplements and vitamins for your cat. I have bought their food for sensitive stomachs and gastrointestinal health. Both foods have helped my cats considerably. If one food brand is not allowed, buy a different brand. Another brand may work wonders for your cat’s health.

I order my supplements online or buy them from a farm or pet store.

If your cat continues to feel bad, take your cat to your vet for a complete check-up. Have him give your cat a blood test when in doubt. A blood test confirmed that my two cats that died had cancer. X- rays will show a cancerous mass.

I hope your cat is on his way to feeling better with his supplements and vitamins, and yeast.
