The Wondering Cats

I have had many cats that wandered off throughout the years. Most of my cats would return home after they saw that the grass was not greener on the other side of the fence. I had one cat in the other house that I would give to my grandmother when we saw her next time. She stayed in the house with no problems for two months, and then she managed to get the screen out of the screen door. She was gone for a whole week, and then I went to the other house, and there she was as if nothing had happened whatsoever. I had several Toms that would take off as all tomcats do. One returned home with one leg missing and another one returned home blind. They both lived for a long time after that. Most of the Toms returned home with maybe a few battle scars. My oldest outdoor Tom lived to be 18, and the oldest outdoor female cat was 18  also. One of my cats went to live with the neighbors, who made her an indoor cat and took her with them when they moved. I never told them she had been my cat. I think she loved their young daughter.

Cats And Their Companions

My outdoor cats have made friends with various creatures over the years. One of my cats made friends with our dog and pet goat, and they would go out hunting together and on long walks together. One lady herded them home to our place, except for the cat, as she came back on her own terms. I have seen cats with a raccoon, an opossum, and even a skunk. I had one cat that liked mice, as he was raised at a Vet’s office. The Vet had trained him not to kill mice, as he might kill someone’s pet mouse. A bird raised one cat as a kitten, and she liked birds all of her life. I adopted a cat whose owners had pet birds, and she dearly loved birds, so we adopted a parakeet, and she would sit by its cage every day and listen to him sing. She truly grieved at his passing. We had two Samoyed dogs that liked cats to a certain degree, but they were not to be trusted if left alone with cats. The female Samoyed learned to love all cats after one gave her a good hard slap in the nose with his claws extended. The other dog was a Samoyed and a Great Pyrenees, and he never did become a cat lover. All of our other dogs throughout the years learned to leave cats alone.

Cats Are Too Curious At Times

We had one that climbed up to the top of the barn roof, but she did come down eventually. I had another cat climb to the very top of a very tall tree; she climbed and slid back down to safety. Some cats are too courageous and get into horrible fights with other cats or creatures when they should have backed away. Hope you and your cats stay safe with all of your adventures.
