Time With Friends And Family On The Holidays

Beautiful memories can be made with family and friends on Holidays. I have many lovely memories of family holidays over the years and times spent with friends on holidays. I hope you will have pleasant memories of holidays with your loved ones as the years pass.

July 4th

I loved going to the parade on the 4th of July and shopping in the stores. I especially loved the carnival when I was a kid. Over the years, I have won several goldfish, can openers, dishes, glasses, plates, cups, and more. The fireworks at night were always spectacular. My parents and I would go to fireworks in various small towns. One of my friends would go with me to the lake, and we would sit on a bench and watch the fireworks. I loved spending time at a friend’s house, having a 4th of July picnic by the lake, and watching the fireworks in the evening. I watch some of the fireworks from my home now.

Easter Sunday

We would go to church in our new Easter outfits. When I was very young, I would wear an Easter bonnet to church. Later in the day, we would have an Easter Sunday lunch with family or friends. I remember my Grandmother hiding Easter eggs under the furniture for me to find. I love going to a church and seeing the church pews full of people. Jesus laid down his life on the cross for our sins so that we may be forgiven for ours. On the third day, he arose from the grave.

Thanksgiving Day

We always had a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Sometimes, we would eat out or prepare a Thanksgiving meal at home and invite family. We would visit and watch TV; sometimes, if the company could stay, we also had dinner together. Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful for our bountiful harvest and the many blessings God has given to us.

Christmas

Christmas is always a joyous time of the year. We celebrate the birth of Jesus. Young children count the days until Christmas, anticipating what gifts they will receive. I remember a Christmas Eve evening at my church when the pews, balcony, and extra chairs were full of people celebrating the birth of Christ, our Lord and Savior. I loved attending a church that evening, as everyone was singing. It was a joyous evening. We used to go to a family house out of town years ago, and I would play with my cousin outdoors after our delicious Christmas meal. We had a sled and slid down the hill many times, laughing all the way down. We would exchange Christmas presents, and we had beautiful memories. I would also go to my aunt’s homes, have excellent Christmas meals, and play and talk to my cousins. I loved going to a friend’s house next to a Lake and having Christmas with them; we exchanged gifts and watched Christmas movies. Times change as we get older, but we can remember the beautiful memories we have made over the holidays and other times.

Daybreak

Daybreak

Morning Has broken

At daybreak, I think about what I want to accomplish today. As the old saying goes, today is a new day with no mistakes. I always remember: This is the day the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it: Psalm 118 – 24. All of us are very blessed when we wake up to a new day.

Today Is A Gift From God

I start my day by reading a daily devotion or thinking about a scripture I have read in the Bible. Think about fulfilling a scripture you have read that will benefit someone’s life today. Set new goals for yourself with each new day; each new day we have is a gift from God and not a given. Never take a day for granted or waste a day on trivial pursuits.

Listen To The Sounds Of Nature

Look at the sun coming up in the morning and how wonderful it is. Listen to the birds happily welcoming in a new day with beautiful songs. Listen to the sounds of nature. I like looking at plants, flowers, and various animals as they add to the spice of life.

Bring Happiness To Someone’s Day

There is always outdoor work to be done. I find it very relaxing to work outdoors when the weather is tolerable. Household chores also need to be done. I love visiting people in rest homes or assisted living and hope to bring happiness into their day. I care for my feline friends daily and feed the birds outdoors.

Do Not Hide Your Talents

Share what you have learned over the years with other people. Do not let your talents that could help other people be unseen. Do not let a particular skill of yours die with you. Share your talents and gifts with others joyfully and freely. Remember to leave a good impression of yourself on Earth.

Help People In The Storms Of Life

Be kind and considerate of other people’s feelings every day. Be a good Samaritan and help people in need. Remember, anything that happens to another person could also happen to you. Treat everyone as you would want to be in that situation. None of us will have smooth sailing in our lives all of the time, and there will be turbulent times. Help people in the storms of life. Put a smile on someone’s face every day.

Learn Something New Everyday

Learn something new each day and challenge your mind. Try something new today. Start an exercise program. Volunteer to help with things that must be done at charities, churches, hospitals, animal shelters, etc. Giving is much better than receiving, as the benefits are priceless.

Complete Your Most Challenging Job First

Start your day by completing your most challenging task, as you are fresh in the morning after a pleasant evening’s rest. As the day progresses, you will be glad to do the most straightforward job late. Treat yourself to me time and relax after a long day. Read a book, call on friends and family, watch TV, and then thank God for your day.

Past And Present

Past And Present

Dont Live In The Past

The past is the past, and you should leave it there. Do not relive past events, as you cannot live in the present if you do. You can remember beautiful memories from the past, but do not keep rehashing negative memories. We all have past regrets or wish we would have done things differently at that particular moment. We cannot change one thing from our past, except we can learn from it and not make those mistakes again. When you get up in the morning, say to yourself or a loved one, ‘This is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” I am glad for every new day that the Lord gives me. Make your days count on earth by serving the Lord and helping other people.

Present

Look at the birds singing every morning, welcoming in a new day. The present is the here and now with beautiful blessings that the Lord will shine down on you. God knows what people to bring into your life at the right time. God knows when you need a helping hand or a friend to help you overcome a difficult time. I love working outdoors and gardening, and my time indoors is focused on writing blog posts and doing daily housework. I look forward to spending time with friends. Friends are like the flowers in the garden of life. Friends bring joy, beauty, love, hope, peace, and happiness into your life. I make a list of what I want to accomplish every day, and I am pretty good at getting my list done by the end of the day. I love watching old TV programs from my past, which bring back beautiful memories.

Future

The future moves a person forward, and you look forward to particular events with those you hold dear. I love planning a vacation, waiting for the day to fly to my new destination, and taking in the sights and the different foods they serve. Traveling is a beautiful hobby with a bright future. Every day you travel, you will have many discoveries and beautiful memories that no one can ever take away from you. I love going to church services in the places I visit and learning the history of their church and how it got started.

Go Out And Live Your Life To Its Full Extent

Don’t waste time on events that you cannot change. Life is about new experiences and adventures, which I look forward to with gusto. Life moves forward quickly. Travel while young, or you may not travel if health problems arise. Don’t always think you need the perfect time to do something, for that time may never come. Be spontaneous and live in the here and now. God made us to live in the here and now and not to dwell on past events in our lives. Get out there and live your life with gusto.

Distractions

Distractions

Work

What do you think about when you work? Do you stay focused on your work or let your mind drift? If you let your mind drift to other things, your work will suffer, and you will be wasting valuable time throughout your day. I have seen people at different businesses ordering something online when they are supposed to be working. I don’t know about you, but when I am paying someone, I want them focused on the job they are doing for me. I do not want to be paying people for a break so they can smoke, as I have now paid them to smoke instead of work they are supposed to be doing for me. I wouldn’t say I like it when workers come to a job without the materials needed to complete the task. I complained to the owner and said I would not be paying labor for them going back to the shop for the supplies they should have had on their repair truck in the first place. Come prepared to work at your job and do the best possible; never do a job with as little work as possible, for it will catch up with you eventually, and no one will hire you. Word of mouth travels quicker than lightning sometimes. Your craft or trade will make or break you, depending on your work ethic.

Distracted From Worship

Is watching a sports team play on TV more important than worshiping God? I hope you would say that worshipping God is more important than a sports game because it is much more important, for you are nothing without God. I have heard people say that they want to rest at home on Sunday or party. You can relax after church; your party could be on Friday night. God is always there for you 24/7, so you can be at church or watch a sermon online for one or two hours to thank God for the many blessings he has given you. Church is about fellowship, praise, faith, hope, peace, love, joy, renewing your covenant with God, singing praises, learning from the sermon, and applying that to your daily living. Never get distracted from praising God; the devil wants you to do that. Let God be your lighthouse and compass daily; you will never get lost.

Sickness

Never focus on your illness or sickness, as it will try to put you in a dark hole. Focus on the good things in your life and the things you still can do, not those you cannot do anymore. Life will have many ups and downs; it is all about how you rise in the down times. Sickness can strengthen your relationship with God and others and lead you on a new path to help you and others. All of us will get sick as that is just part of nature. We are born, and every day after we are born, we die a little bit every day. Live your days with hope, peace, and joy, and know that God loves you immensely and wants only the best for you.

Life's Lessons

Life’s Lessons

Don’t Jump To Conclusions Until You Have All Of The Facts

Things can look black and white, but sometimes they do not. If you misplace something, you may think someone may have stolen it. After you look several times and do not see it, you jump to conclusions. One time, I looked in my kitchen cupboard for a food product I knew I had not eaten, but I could not find it. I knew I had placed it. The next day, I found it right off the bat. If you are concentrating on something too much, you may overlook it even though it has been in plain sight all along. God will always lead you on the right path. Do not think you did something wrong when you get an illness, as they do not overlook anyone, as it is just part of life. Pray to God to help you get through your illness without much pain or suffering, as God listens to your prayers 24/7. Never judge a book by its cover until you have read it. Do not be too quick to judge someone, as you may be affected by how you judge them to a higher degree.

Live And Learn From The Past

If I went to a store and were not treated right, I would not return to face the same kind of treatment. I had traded for a vehicle but did not get every little detail in writing. Luckily, I had a friend with me when I purchased it. He tried to stick me with a two-wheel drive instead of a four-wheel drive. I finally got a letter from the sales manager saying he would give me a vehicle one year newer. He wanted me to pay more because it was a four-wheel drive, and my friend said no, she had already paid for that which I had. The owner said he could not correct the problem. I showed him the sales manager’s signed letter, and he quickly changed his tune. He dared to ask me how I liked the vehicle later, and I told him I wouldn’t say I liked it. He asked me why I wouldn’t say I liked it, and I said it was what I had to go through to get it. I did not have that vehicle for long and have nothing to do with that dealership now.

God And Life

If you follow and love God with all your heart and soul, you are on the right path. Many people will come into your life who will try to lead you astray if you let them. People will have investments and tell you you cannot lose any money with their investments. People will offer free advice, some of which will be good and the rest wrong. Consider the source before you follow someone else’s path in life. I prefer to follow God’s path for my life. Always take the path less traveled or a tried and true path. And the path that God wants for your life, and you cannot go wrong. Life lessons are necessary for you to grow and help God and others.

Watch What You Say To People

Watch What You Say To People

Your Tongue Might Get You In Trouble

Never tell someone that they are fat or too thin. Not all of us are built the same. If someone comes into your business, treat them equally regardless of size, shape, or whatever. Never judge a book by its cover. If someone wears work clothes, do not assume they are poor or beneath you. A woman had an antique store, and a woman came in that had been painting her office building. The store owner ignored her and treated her like she was invisible because she assumed she had no money to buy antiques. She told her friend she had never been maltreated in any business before. The lady with the antique store lost what would have been a good customer, along with everyone she told about her experience there.

Lift People Up And Great Them Cordially

Make someone feel important when they enter your store. Ask them how they are today with a friendly smile on your face. Don’t act like a know-it-all, as that gets old quickly. Remember, the customer is always right; you are to serve the customer, and they are not there to serve you. Never fight or argue with your customers, for soon you will not have any in your place of business as you scared them all away with your quick and nasty temper.

People Never Forget When They Are Treated Badly

They will tell all of their friends about it, and their friends will say to their friends, and soon it is all over town, and it will be tough to get your reputation back as a good and fair store as to how you treat your customers needs. If your customer is unhappy, your store will eventually suffer the consequences. We need service after the sale, not just before the sale. I want to talk to a human being on the phone, not a robot. Businesses will lose sales eventually because people will be fed up with the robot saying I did not get that or I do not understand that. The robot says we will get back to you. They never have for me. I have to call about ten times before my issue gets resolved, and I am fed up with robots acting like humans.

Treat God With Respect And Be Thankful For Your Many Blessings

God has given you so much in your lifetime. God has saved you from many disasters in your lifetime. Sing praises to God daily, for without God; you would be nothing, John 15:51. God is my guide in life and compass; when you have God by your side, you are never lost for long. God hears all the words that leave our mouths and if they are meant to harm or hurt someone. Be careful about the spoken word, like a spent arrow shot in the dark. Once something nasty is said to someone, you cannot retract it. You have to apologize and try to regain their trust, which will be very hard. Think before you speak, and never jump to a conclusion until you have heard all the facts.

Rise Above A Storm In Your Life

Rise Above A Storm In Your Life

Illness

We will get many different illnesses in our lifetime. We have to learn to cope and deal with our illness. If you feel like you are dated, you cannot rise above your illness. Most likely, it will defeat you. Being sick is a scary and very lonely place. Get out with friends often, and do not dwell on your illness. There will be days when you feel defeated; on those days, change your mindset to the happy and good things in your life. Read a good book and get lost in the pages of the book. Go on a long walk and look at nature and all it offers. Keep your mind out of dark places, for the dark places would love it if you remained there as your illness would win and take you down much sooner. Remember, God is always by your side, helping and guiding you.

Your Job

If your job does not bring joy to your life, look for one that does. Going to a job you dread doing daily will eat away at you and consume you. You will be very productive in a job you love and accomplish a lot every day. Your job should help many people and lift people’s spirits. Help people to the best of your ability and never have an I don’t care attitude, for one day, you may be on the receiving side. If a link in a chain gets broken, the whole chain is useless, and that is what happens if you do not do your job correctly. Be the person who holds the chain together for the betterment of all.

If You Are Treated Unfairly

State your case to the person with the authority to help you out of your situation. Speak calmly, do not raise your voice, and tell them why you were treated unfairly. If you purchased a product and never received it, tell them you think you deserve a full refund, and if that does not work, ask for the store’s owner or manager to make it right with you. I went into a store once, and the man said to charge her double for the part I needed. I think he thought he could put one over on me because I was a woman. I told all my friends about it, and he lost out on some business anyway. I purchased a new bed at a furniture store, which smelled moldy. I could not sleep on it because I was allergic to mold. I finally got my money back after one of the workers told me the roof had leaked on the bedding in their store. I once purchased a new furnace, and it came with the top of the furnace smashed. I had to keep after that company for six months, and I finally got all of my money back. Never give up. Keep fighting until you get what is owed to you. Do not let others take advantage of you, as there will be many who will try. Remember, God is watching how you treat others.

Peace

Peace

You Will Not Be At Peace With Anyone Until You Are At Peace With Yourself

If you are not at peace with yourself, you will not have a strong relationship with anyone. If you are not at peace because of an event that happened in your life years ago, pray to God to help you get through that event. Rehashing the past leads to events that will bring turmoil into your life daily. Peace must come from your inner being, and you must want peace. Ask God for forgiveness if you have done something wrong, as God forgives all his followers who genuinely repent of their sins. It would help if you did not let an event from the past keep robbing you of your inner peace, as it will destroy your soul because you think of that constantly. Life can be very peaceful if you are at peace with yourself and show that peace to others.

War

No one feels at peace in times of war. We worry about what the war will bring to our country and family. God eventually ends all wars, and there will be peace in the land again. If there were more compromises, we would not have any wars. Wars can be started because countries fight over a small piece of land that they could divide into two sections if only they would compromise. Peace is worth a compromise or two.

Living The Good Life

We are at peace with God and everyone when things go our way. Anyone can be thankful for that and very pleased with God. We pray to God to help us get back on track when things go wrong. One should pray every day and thank God for the many blessings in our lives. Do not pray to God only in times of trouble and sickness. Thank God for your health, house, family, friends, the food on your table, and much more, for without God in our lives, we are nothing. Never take God for granted, as no one wants to be taken for granted, as we all want love and respect from people.

When One Is Very Sick, You Feel A Strong Connection To God, That Is Full of Peace

You can almost feel God’s healing hands touching you while you are lying in your hospital bed. I have never felt more peace than I did in my hospital bed because I knew God was lying beside me and healing me. I talked to people more than I ever had in my life. God helped me get my voice back from an experience that happened when I was made fun of and bullied in kindergarten by my teacher and some of the students. God had plans that required me to talk freely and efficiently with everyone and regain that peace in my voice. God brings peace to all who follow him and want peace. I became a lay minister for my church, and I write Inspirations With Laura.

Why Do bad Things Happen To Good People?

Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People?

Sickness

All of us will get sick and die someday. Some people linger for many years in pain. You may be told that your illness will cause your death in a matter of a few years. An illness can make you go in a different direction in your life. Your new direction may help many people if you do what your heart and soul are called to do. Do not feel that your life is over, and start living your life more fully and getting the most you can out of every day you are blessed with. Help others learn how to cope with their illness and feel they can still contribute to society. God does not want any of his children to suffer, but no one gets by without any pain at all in their lifetime. There is great pain in a child’s birth, but once the baby is born, the parents rejoice with joy over the birth of their new baby. The baby is a part of them that will carry on after they are gone. I have seen my illness as a new direction, drawing me closer to God and others. Always remember there is always someone in worse shape than you are. God is not punishing you when you are sick or in pain, as it is part of nature that we will die from something one day. Make your life and days count for something while you are on earth. Help God spread his good works and help as many people as possible as you travel through your earthly life and then onto your heavenly home.

Someone Dies In A Car Accident

Most of the people that I know who have died in car accidents were very young. I asked myself why did God take them. The age of 16 seems to be the age of most of them who died. One was a baby girl, and one was age 27. It was hard for me to understand why God would take them now. God knows the day and time that we will die, but we have no idea which is a good thing. God has plans for us that we will not understand until we reach heaven. Some of us accomplish what God wants us to do sooner than others.

When Family And Friends Die

I was upset with God when my Mother died at the age of 57. She was young in my eyes. I finally understood that God was not the cause of her death, as her death was part of nature. Some inherited diseases or illnesses may take us down the road. We all grieve differently, and we will always ask why me, I say why not me, as it happens to everyone eventually.

Understand That You Are Not Alone, As God Is By Your Side

God feels your pain when you lose a loved one, as your loved one is a child of God and loved by God. Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we may have eternal life and dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Do not fear death, for eternal life awaits you. Thank you, God, for your many blessings in my life. Thank you, God, for wonderful parents, family, and friends and for putting the right people in my life at the right time.

You Reap What You Sow

You Reap What You Sow

Separate The Shaft From The Grain

Farmers buy seeds that have been sifted to remove weed seeds. If you leave the weed seeds in, they will take nutrients away from the good seeds, and your field will be overrun with weeds, which does not help anyone except those who sell weed-killing chemicals. Weed-free crops make for a bountiful and fruitful harvest that will feed many. We always separate the shaft from the corn seeds, and you can see the shaft flying through the air and landing on the ground around the grain cleaner. When we plant soybeans, the volunteer corn that comes up is considered a weed that needs to be killed to have excellent, clean soybeans that will bring top prices at the elevator.

Hanging Around With The Wrong Crowd

If you hang around with people up to no good, you will tend to follow them, leading you down a downward spiral of destruction. Do not do something that you know is wrong just to fit in with the crowd. Do not become someone you cannot look at in the mirror when you wake up to a new day. Never let someone make you into someone you no longer like or cannot recognize anymore.

Your Actions Will Catch Up With You Eventually

You will eventually have to face up to the consequences of your actions. If you have been bad and have not repented, you will be held accountable for your actions on judgment day. The shaft will be separated from the grain. If you have done worse than good deeds, you may be lost to all eternity forever.

You Do Not Study

If you do not study in school, you waste your time and your teacher’s time. It pays to study and be prepared for tests and get good grades. It has been proven that the more education you have, the higher your pay will be in life, and you will have a job you enjoy. If you do not apply yourself in school, you will not apply yourself at your job or in other areas of your life. Your education or lack of education follows you around your entire life. Beauty fades, but your education lasts forever.

Tend Your Garden And Prune Your Trees

A garden not weeded or fertilized does not produce much of anything. A soul that is not attended to is lost and will not grow. If you do not remove the dead branches on a tree, it will weaken the strong branches, diseases will enter the tree, and it will wither and die. A man that does not pray and does not nourish his soul withers and dies. Fruit trees that are not trimmed keep producing smaller and smaller fruit until there is no need to pick the fruit as there is little nourishment now. Prune out the people in your life who add no nourishment to your soul and try to take you down to a dark place that you wish not to enter. Once you enter, it is very hard to get back on the solid rock you once were on. Stay on the path God has made for you, for without God, you are nothing.
