Active Cats
An active cat will live much longer than one that lies around, sleeps, and eats all day. I have had many active cats over the years. Years ago, we had outdoor cats, and they hunted the ditches for hours, catching many field mice. A few of our older cats would even kill rats, as we used to have outdoor pig feeders. A few of our cats would sit up on top of doors or fence posts, pounce on a mouse, and have a delightful mouse meal. My indoor cat, Milton, is very active, as he loves to run up and down our steps at warp speed. He is very agile as he dodges whatnots and other objects on his sleeves and more. One of my blind indoor cats can dodge around and over pictures with complete accuracy. Garfunkel can maneuver through small spaces despite a stroke that left him blind. Some of my cats next door are very active, and others are not. The most active ones are thin, as they use the cat treadmill and run through the house after toys they throw up in the air, then pounce on them.
Plump Cats
I adopted Kenzie when she was 6 years old, and her former owner had let her eat anything and everything, unfortunately. She has lost 4 pounds since I adopted her, but she remains plump. She can move around well and put the other cats in their place if they bother her. One day, one of the cats slapped her in the face, and he got slapped in the face twice by her, and that was the end of that. Some of the cats on the plump side had a very large grandfather. He was also very muscular and long, an outdoor cat named Onyx. Onyx lived for about 18 years. Onyx was part Siamese, Himalayan, Maine Coon, and domestic shorthair. Sometimes plumpness is inherited.
Cats That Are Movers And Shakers
My grandfather found my first cat, Flossie, outdoors in a field as a very young kitten. She lived in our barn and ate dry cat food and gravy my grandmother made. She had many generations of kittens over the years. My First cousin gave me a purebred Maine Coon cat when I was very young, and we named her Fresca. We were given a large male Himalayan later on. Many years later, I was given a Himalayan cat. I still have some of each one of them in some of my cats next door, luckily. We have given away many kittens over the years, so I am sure their offspring will live on for a long time. One of Flossie’s kittens, Blacknose, would kill and eat garter snakes. She was a tortoiseshell calico cat.
Cats Age as People Do
When we were young, we could do most anything, and as we age, we need more rest and recovery time between projects. Foods that used to agree with us now tend to make us sick. We move more slowly than we once did. Treat your senior cats with respect and realize that they are doing the best they can. They still love you, and I hope you love them forever.
