Cleaning Up Various Brands Of Litter Boxes

Cleaning Up Litter Robots

The Litter-Robot 3 is fairly easy to clean. Remove the bonnet, remove the globe, and take it outdoors to a hose. I use dish soap and a stiff brush to clean out the globe. It takes a while to clean out the area where the dirty litter is dumped from the globe, since debris gets under the plastic mesh. Cleaning up the Litter-Robot 4 is easier because it is made a little differently than the Litter-Robot 3. I have had my Litter-Robot 3 since 2019. You can buy new sensors for the Litter-Robot, but you most likely will need help replacing them.

Pet Safe Litter Box

It is very easy to clean, and I have had mine for over 12 years. I ordered a stainless steel tray to fit under it, which made cleaning it a breeze. I love the Crystal Cat litter because it cleans up easily.

Litter Maid Litter Boxes

I have two, and they are still working. I have had them since 2015. They are very easy to clean: a tray in front catches the litter, and you can dump out the old kitty litter and replace the plastic tray as needed. They are low maintenance; they just needed some WD-40 on the front buttons that move the debris rake back and forth.

Generic Power Litter Boxes

I have 3 of them, and they are harder to clean because debris gets stuck under the plastic mesh, and it takes quite a while to remove. The first two models are easier to clean than the newer version because they removed the plug on the back of the globe and replaced it with the plastic mesh, which makes cleaning the newer unit a total nightmare. They seem well built and function well.

Old Fashioned Litter Boxes

If you have plastic litter boxes, you can clean them for a while before replacing them, since scratched plastic harbors bacteria. I bought a nice large stainless steel one that cleans up quickly.

Have A Day Set Aside To Clean Up Your Litter Boxes

Have plenty of dish soap and a stiff dish brush on hand for scrubbing the unit, plus paper towels; you may also want to wear plastic gloves while cleaning the litter boxes. Make sure you get everything back into the proper position before powering the unit back up. Never wash any area that has sensors or wires. I let my litter boxes dry out in the sun if possible; otherwise, I set them by a drain to dry. Finish drying them off with paper towels. Make sure the unit is completely dry before turning on the power. If your litter box is not functioning correctly, have it fixed or replace it with a new unit. Never use harsh cleaners while cleaning up a litter box, as they may be toxic to your cat. Your cats will thank you for cleaning up their litter boxes. Your home will smell fresh and clean and be sanitary for everyone. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
