I have had mother cats watch each other’s kittens while they were out hunting. They have even taken turns nursing each other’s kittens. They were mother cats that grew up together on my farm. That is why they trusted each other in caring for their kittens.
I had a pet goat that grew up with two kittens. My goat and my cats were always good friends. They would go out hunting together. The cats would catch mice out in the field while my goat ate the leftover corn. My goat Zachary had a cat that slept in his dog house with him. He gave her a Mohawk hairstyle. He would lick away at her fur, which resulted in the Mohawk.
Jitters, a small dog I once had, would babysit my cat’s kittens while they were hunting. When Jitters would leave her dog’s house, four little kittens would follow her. She was very good to them. She gently grabbed them by the nape of their neck and placed them back in her dog house. She would keep them nice and warm in her dog house until my cat returned from her hunt.
I have nursed many sick kittens back to good health. I have bottled feed several little kittens. I had to give one of my kittens Pediasure for one month until he got well. I have confined sick cats to one room of my house, fed them exceptional food, and given them medicine until they fully recovered.
Addy, my cat that had kittens recently, does not like to have any help from my other female cats in my house. My cat Bella wanted to sleep with Addy’s kittens to help keep them warm. Addy fought with Bella. Bella lost some of her furs. Addy did not grow up with Bella. Addy did not trust what Bella’s intentions might be toward her kittens.
Russ and Lorenzo, my two neutered Toms, are excellent babysitters. Russ gently nipped one of Addy’s kittens on his leg that were trying to leave his cat’s bed. He went back to his bed. Lorenzo alerted Addy that one of her kittens may be getting into trouble. Russ and Lorenzo are always watching out for Addy’s kittens. Russ and Lorenzo are accommodating and considerate babysitters.
Your kittens may have many different types of babysitters in their lifetime.
