Fleas are tiny and black and can leap from any surface onto you.
Cats are likely to get fleas if kept in an unclean area. Keep pet bedding clean and vacuum regularly. Wash your floors thoroughly because they feed on the dirt and can grow in the cracks between your tile floors.
I was told about a woman that threw her cat litter outside. A housing inspector came to her place and was bitten by fleas. Please dispose of your used cat litter properly.
I adopted a stray kitten that was covered in fleas. We took her home, and I used a flea dip and shampoo on her immediately after bringing her home. I did not want to have fleas all over my house.

Do not use flea powder or treatments for adult cats on kittens, as it could kill your kitten. I wouldn’t say I like flea collars. A collar can get caught on something and choke your cat to death.
Keep your litter boxes cleaned out regularly to avoid an outbreak of fleas. Do not let your indoor cats outside. Your cat can carry fleas into your home on his hair. Wash your litter boxes with a cleaner and disinfectant that is safe for cats.
If you must go to a home with fleas, wear high boots and wash your clothes ASAP.
