Cats And Family

Consider The Age Of Your Family Members

Before introducing a cat into your household, consider your family members’ ages. A young rambunctious cat might get underfoot and trip or injure older family members. An old cat with little children will be too much for the older cat to take, as the older cat gets bony with age, and if handled roughly, might bite or be injured by the way your youngster holds them and moves them around from room to room. I think a two-year-old cat works well for youngaters since they are grown up enough to handle how the youngster might treat them and move them around. An older cat might love to be held by an older person, and they will be good companions for each other. Older cats love to sleep on your lap as long as they can.

Cats Can Get Along On Their Own Better Than Dogs

Cats are good if you have long work hours. Cats can entertain themselves with cat toys, cat trees, circle toys, and by watching birds through your windows. I have a bird feeder by our picture window, and my cats love to watch the various birds that eat at the feeder and drink from the bird bath. Cats are fine if they have clean litter boxes, and they rarely have accidents. They may throw up a hairball or food that does not agree with them from time to time. If you have two cats, they will keep each other company. I have found that two female cats never seem to get along unless they are Mother and daughter. Two males or a male and a female cat seem to make an excellent match for a blissful home.

What Other Pets Do You Have In Your Home?

I had a gerbil and a parakeet, and at that time, my Siamese cat literally loved our parakeet. She would lie on our bed and listen to him sing for hours. When he died, she mourned his death for days by lying on the bed and wailing mournfully. She would look at the gerbil in the cage, but never really showed any interest in him whatsoever. Some dogs will tolerate cats sleeping next to them, and they get along fine where they are. The dogs may try to kill your cat.

Your Cats Should Be A Lifetime Commitment

Cats grow to love their owners, and most of us love them dearly, too. I consider all of my cats family members, and I want the best of care possible for them. I give them high-quality cat food and treats, and excellent Vet care. Cats are not something that you dump off when they are old. Your senior cat has given you love, and they need your love more than ever as they get older. Imagine yourself dumped off at the side of the road when you are old. I bet that gives you something to think about. Treat your cats as you want to be treated with respect, kindness, and love through the good and the bad times. God bless all creatures great and small.
