Help Someone In Need
If someone is hungry, buy a meal for them. Offer to take them to a restaurant where you eat and let them order whatever they want within reason. If you see someone who could use clothing, give them some new clothing you have not worn because you lost or gained weight. Put some new socks or T-shirts in your vehicle and hand them out to people who seem down on their luck. I went to a bakery once, and I gave the tenth person who came in some money, and I told them it was a gift from God and my church. I have given strangers in a park money, and I told them it was from my church and God. Helping people makes you happy, and it makes them happy too. In traveling, I gave people the candy I had just purchased as they had not eaten all day, and they said God bless you. Put a smile on someone’s face today who needs something extra special. Never give a gift to someone you do not like, as they will not appreciate receiving it either. Treat everyone as God treats them, and then you cannot go wrong. In the winter, give coats, hats, gloves, and mittens to the mission drive that will help keep people warm in winter’s long, cold days.
Cleaning And Household Supplies
If someone has a fire or has lost everything in some disaster, they will need everything, for they have lost everything. Cleaning supplies are necessary to clean up after floods and sanitize things. People will need good used bedding, towels, furniture, TVs, small appliances, large appliances, desks, books, cell phones, bedroom furniture, couches, chairs, pots and pans, and more. Most of us have extra things that we can donate to people who have suffered from disasters. Give good used coffee makers, blenders, food processors, vacuum cleaners, and more. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes and think, how would I feel if I lost everything overnight? You would pray that God would send the right person at the right time to help you return to normalcy.
Lend A Hand
I like some new volunteer programs where teenagers help older adults mow, shovel, and paint their homes. The teenagers who can drive will pick up and deliver groceries to them. Some will help them cook at least one good meal a day and help them take their medicine. Older people in my area pay $25.00 an hour for help from cleaning people. They cannot afford the $25.00 an hour as they only made $1.25 an hour when they started working, and the most they got paid yearly just before their retirement was $22,000.00 a year. Some have to pay for their medicine or food as they cannot afford both. Nursing Homes Are pricy at $9000.00 for only one month of care. Those figures don’t work when your top pay was $22,000.00 a year. Seniors need all the volunteers they can get as the cost of living has gone through the roof for them and others. Remember, you will be old much quicker than you think.
