Negotiations

Agreeing On A Price

If you do not like the price of something you are trying to buy, try to negotiate on the price. Remember to make a reasonable offer and not a lowball offer. I was trying to sell a couch for $100.00 once, and a party asked me if I Would sell it for $20.00, and I told them I would be losing money on it. They told me they would talk to their friends about it, and I told them to please do so because I don’t want them in my store anyway. If you ask for 10 to 20 percent off, that is within reason; anything more is not. Stores have to make a profit to keep their doors open and their shelves stocked. When buying a big ticket item, always negotiate on the price as there is some wiggle room there.

Call Different Dealers To See What The Type Of Vehicle You Are Considering Buying Is Selling For At That Dealership

If you walk into a car dealership with no idea of what the car is worth that you are considering buying, you will be taken to the cleaners. They can size you up quickly and think we have a greenhorn here. I called several dealers and found the best price to avoid getting taken. Please do your homework when it comes to buying a new car. Once you have agreed on a price, make sure you have every little detail in writing, such as the vehicle’s serial number, year, motor size, and any extras you may want included in the deal. You are out of luck if something goes wrong and it is not written down in the contract.

Buying A Home

If it has been on the market for over 6 months, you most likely will be able to negotiate and buy your dream house at a reduced price. Don’t get too greedy on your end, as you may make the seller mad, and he will not work with you at all. Ensure you have the house inspected, as you do not need surprises down the road that will cost a lot to repair. The roof and the foundation are the main things in any home. Without a solid foundation, you are on sinking sand, so to speak. A leaking roof will destroy your home rather quickly. If you want something fixed before you buy, have it written in the contract.

Don’t Get Taken On Negotiations

Make sure you entirely understand what you are negotiating. If one party thinks you want new windows in a home and the other party writes down new awnings, there will be a significant problem. Read everything twice before you sign on the dotted line. Unfortunately, people are always waiting in the wings who will try to take advantage of you on deals. Understand what you buy and all the terms and conditions involved in your business transaction. Always have someone with you when you purchase big-ticket items. If something should go wrong, they can back you up if necessary. I hope you have happy and safe negotiations.

The Art Of Negotiation

The Art Of Negotiation

Know What You Want To Pay

I start negotiating when I buy something and don’t like the asking price. Research the cost of the item you are trying to purchase before shopping for it. If you can buy the same thing at another store, ask the store if they can bet the other store’s price. Generally, they can beat their fee by 5 to 10 percent. Go online and research what the item you wish to have is selling for. I would instead buy local if I could then buy online. You do not have anyone local to repair an item you buy online. Customer service means a great deal to me.

Negotiate With The Owner Of The Business

Starting a negotiation with the business owner rather than with one of his employees is much easier. I have negotiated deals on furniture, appliances, carpet, cars, outdoor equipment, etc. The money you save can be used to buy groceries, clothes, books, and much more for your family. I have held $75.00 on a new stove, $150.00 on a new recliner, and $50.00 on a chainsaw. They will negotiate a better deal with you if you are a repeat customer.

When You Sell Something, Leave Yourself Some Wiggle Room

Some people will try to buy something for nothing. I like people that negotiate within reason. I once owned a store, and a man came in and offered me $20.00 for a $200.00 couch. He became mad when I told him I could not sell it to him for that figure. He told me he would tell all his friends not to come to my store. I told him, please do it. I do not want that type of customer in my store anyway. Start your price higher so you can come down in price. Most people will never ask for more than 15% off your asking price.

Do Not Be Pressured Into Buying Something

Some salesmen will tell you that you must buy the item they have today or tomorrow it will be much higher in price. I have said that ten people are interested in what I am looking at and that it will most likely be gone tomorrow. I buy things on my terms, not their terms.

Be Patient And Tell Yourself You Do Not Have To Buy The Item of Your Dreams Today

If you see something in a store that you want to buy and cannot afford it, wait at least a month, and they will lower the price if they can. If a store sells the item of your dreams, you will find another one eventually, unless it is a scarce item you should buy if you can agree on the selling price. I waited for one thing for 20 years and finally purchased it. I did not mind waiting for it as it made it more precious.
