Put Yourself In Their Place
How would you feel if you fell and everyone kept walking past you? I am sure you would think, Why will no one help me? I saw an older woman fall by our local library, and everyone walked by her. I told her I would go in and get help for her since I could not lift her. To my surprise, none of the young men in the library would help her. I finally got two Vets from the Vietnam War to help her up. She thanked them and me. I hope that if I needed help, not everyone would walk by and have an I don’t care attitude. Everyone gets old, and it happens much sooner than you think. Without empathy and caring, we have lost what God wants us to do to improve the world. God has great compassion and understanding for everyone, for his son died on the cross so that we may be forgiven for our sins.
Pain From An Illness
When you are in pain from an illness or disease, you want to have a Doctor and a nurse who are compassionate and understanding. You hope that they will give you pain medicine promptly. No one wants to burden others, as we all want our independence. Eventually, we will all need someone to love and nurture us as Christ does. Some medical conditions may not show just by looking at a person. Never judge a book by its cover until you know what the chapters in it are all about. People have many chapters in their books, but may not want to discuss each. Never judge anyone by outside appearances, as what is happening on the inside is the most important thing.
Empathy Is Very Important Indeed
An older man fell on the steps of a tour bus I was on, and no one would help him. I helped him, and the others on the bus were mad at me. I am very sure that if they had fallen, they would have wanted help immediately. Christ has excellent empathy toward all of his flock. He was close to his friends and only wanted the best for them. He gave them second chances when they did something wrong and even brought Lazarus back to life. If you see someone crying, ask them if they need help or try to comfort them somehow; don’t just walk on by.
If Someone Says They Cannot Do Something, Ask Them Why
People will do what they can, but maybe their health prohibits them from doing more. Don’t push people into something if they say no. If you belong to a group, people look at you and say, “Why can’t you do such and such?” You should not have to explain your whole life history to them. Have empathy toward people and do not expect them to jump through hoops for you. We all know what our limitations are, and no one else does. Always think first, have empathy and care toward others, and never judge man, for God is the only judge of man.
