Chief My Shetland Pony And Appaloosa Mix

He was a naughty pony at times. He would buck me off and throw me on the ground at times. My Father was tall and he would just jump off and land on his feet on the ground and get on Chief again. Chief was in shock since that tactic had always worked for him. He stopped trying to buck me off after that. He loved to walk behind my Mother and try to nip at her. he eventually stopped that also. We had him tied out in the yard once and he went into the cornfield and he had a mass of corn wrapped around his rope. We freed him and he never ventured out there again. One of my neighbors rode him and he always behaved himself when she rode him. He loved to eat apples that had fallen off of the trees along with corn, oats, and alfalfa hay.

Starlight My Pinto Horse

She was absolutely beautiful and she knew it. Several times she gave me a ride that I would never forget. She took off running like a racehorse and she would not stop no matter what I tried. One time she ran right through a stop sign and luckily no car was coming. Most of my rides were uneventful luckily. She loved to stop at the edge of the road and have a little timothy hay to eat. If she thought her water dish was running low she would stare at the house until you came out with fresh water for her. Starlight loved it when I mowed the lawn with an old push mower with a grass catcher as he had nice fresh grass to munch away on. If she got tired that was the end of your ride until she decided she wanted to go home. Starlight did not like my farrier to trim her hooves and she would stand on his foot with all her weight pressing on his foot and he let her know he did not like that. My neighbor that was good with horses could make Starlight do whatever she wanted her to do with just gentle nudges or commands. She was my favorite horse.

Hepcat My Palamino / Quarter Horse

He was my best-behaved horse. He had a nervous problem where he wanted to ride as close to the edge of the road as possible. I purchased a bit with a roller in it that was like a pacifier for a horse and he rode with no problems at all when he had that bit in his mouth. Starlight and Hepcat got along fine. Hepcat loved to be combed with a curry comb and brushed. Hepcat was an easy-going horse and he was very gentle. All of my horses got along well with my cats and our family dog. I sold my horses when I started 12th grade. I missed them terribly as we did share a lot of good times together. God bless all of the creatures great and small. Happy trails ahead for all horse lovers.
