How To Live With Your Cats When You Are Allergic To Them

How To Live With Your Cats When You Are Allergic To Them

Wash Your Bedding Regularly And Clean Your Home Often

Keep your cats out of your bedroom to have a cat-free zone. Wash your bedding regularly as your cat will sit on your lap, and you may have pet dander in your hair just because you petted your cat while he was in your lap. Wash your bedding and other soft fabric items in hot water to eliminate the allergens. Eliminate drapes and throw rugs if possible, as they catch a lot of cat hair and dander. Wash your floors and clean all areas of your home often. Throw away stuffed toys or wash them in hot water if possible. Replace your throw pillows with new ones. Vacuum your furniture, carpet, floors, and more very often. Buy a vacuum with a HEPA filter. Buy an air purifier for your home. Have the heat runs cleaned out in your home.

Wash Your Hands Every Time You Touch Your Cat

By washing your hands, you will eliminate allergens from entering your eyes if you happen to rub your eyes. If you touch your face, your face will not itch if you have washed your face after handling your cat. Wash your hands before you prepare food for yourself and others as an act of cleanliness, regardless of allergies. After all, your kitty uses the litter box.

Do Not Let Your House Cat Outdoors

You will be surprised by all the allergens your cat can bring into your home after being outdoors for just one minute. Your cat can bring fleas into your home, and you and your cats will have a scratching frenzy. You will have to clean everything in your home with hot water and have your carpets cleaned and your whole house fumigated twice to eliminate the little biting creatures. Cats bring pollen in on their hair after being out, which gets deposited on your drapes, carpet, and more. A wild animal may attack your house cat, get rabies, or be run over by a vehicle.

Groom And Clean Your Cats Often

Comb or brush your cat’s hair often to help eliminate cat dander. Comb your cat out in a controlled area of your home so you will not have pet dander flying everywhere, adding to your allergy problem. Wash your cats with an allergy shampoo or use a dry or rub-on liquid shampoo to help eliminate pet dander.

Wash Your Cats Bedding And Vacuum Off His Pet Towers

Wash all of your cat’s bedding in boiling water. Clean the litter boxes to eliminate mold and pet urine allergies. Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter, so you are not throwing cat allergens all over the room while you vacuum. A vacuum without a HEPA filter is worthless for eliminating cat allergens as it does only redistribute them. Cleanliness is next to Godliness and makes for a happy home for you and your cat, where you can coexist with your allergies and feline friends.

What My Cats Are Enjoying In This Moment In Time

What My Cats Are Enjoying At This Moment In Time

My house cats love playing with a baby chick cat toy that chirps away when they grab it. Kohl still has his fascination with toy green frogs. Garfunkel like to play with catnip toy mice of various sizes. Conrad loves to bat a ball attached to the hammock cat bed. At night Kohl sleeps on my other pillow, Garfunkel sleeps in the middle, and Conrad is always by my feet. One night the chirping bird entered my bed, and they had it chirping away until 2 A.M. When I got up, I found a new home for the singing bird temporally.

They like to sleep in a cozy plush bed and a heated cat bed in the daytime. Conrad is sleeping in his new recliner and the hammock cat bed. Garfunkel is easygoing and finds any bed or place that fits his sleep schedule. Kohl likes the plush bed and the hammock the best.

My cat’s next door have 12 heated beds to choose from. Maggie sleeps on a windowsill cat bed, and her sister always sleeps on a wool bed. Cali sleeps on a windowsill bed along with Faith. Peter, Nicole, Hilford, and Sherlock sleep in heated small dog house beds. Addi sleeps on a plush mattress. Russ likes to sleep in a hammock cat bed. Mr. Gray likes hammock beds.

My cat next door loves playing with catnip toy mice and toy mice that squeak. They love to play with soft fluffy balls and a mouse that hangs on the doorknob. They love to play with a singing toy cardinal cat toy. I just put a pet arch in the house for them to walk through that removes loose hair. I have noticed that their coats look brighter and shinier now.

They love Tidy cats litter and Worlds best cat litter. Purina One Cat Food seems to be their favorite dry cat food. They love canned cat food with chicken, turkey, tuna, venison, and duck. They do not like cat foods with by-products, fillers, or preservatives. They love to eat squeezable cat food right out of the package. I open up the box and squeeze the delicious treat into their mouth.

They love to be groomed with a comb for humans as well as one for cats. They do not mind having their hair brushed with a medium bristle brush. The gloves with little plastic bristles are also a favorite grooming tool of theirs. I use a dry shampoo for cats on my cats now and then.

My cats love to be held, fused, and gently patted on the head. They love attention and get plenty of attention and love from me. What are your cat’s favorite things in his life? I am sure they are similar to what my cats like. Love and cherish your cat or cats. Show your cats the same love that they show toward you day after day. Pets can make the bad days sunny and bright.

Where I Buy My Cats Accessories

Where I Buy My Cats Accessories

I order my cat accessories online or buy them at local stores. I do a lot of comparison shopping as I want the best quality items for a reasonable price. Compare the online prices to your local store prices. If you can shop locally, remember those dollars go back into your community. Online shopping is lovely when they offer free shipping. It is nice to have cat food and cat litter delivered right to your door in the cold winter months.

I buy my cat’s toys from e bay, amazon, grocery stores, and chewy.com. My cat litter is from Menards, Mills Fleet Farm, and Chewy.Com. My cat food comes mainly from chewy.com and Menards. I prefer K and H heated cat beds as they tend to last a long time. My heated cat beds come from e bay and amazon.com. My cats love their Meowfia cat beds from Chewy.Com. I purchased my cat’s playpen from Amazon.Com.

I just purchased an excellent plastic folding step made by Frisco and sold by Chewy.com for my cat Kohl. Kohl has trouble jumping into my bed as he ages, and his new actions make life much easier. Kohl also likes orthopedic cat beds that I have purchased from Aldi’s grocery store.

I have purchased flea treatment products from my veterinarian. You can buy distemper shots for your cats at Mills Fleet farm. I take my cats to my veterinarian for all of their images. Do research on flea treatment products before you buy them to ensure they are effective and safe for your cat, depending on size, age, and overall general health.

I purchased my metal heated water bowls from Menards as they last a long time compared to plastic heated water bowls. My grooming tools were purchased at my local stores. I have purchased many litter boxes over the years. I like a litter box that sifts the litter clean, as you do not waste as much cat litter.

I love the Litter Robot. It is more costly than other brands, but my cats and I love it. It smells nice and fresh, and the dirty litter is dumped in a plastic bag in the tray below the unit. The Litter Robot even has a night light in it for your cat. The Litter Robot is automatic. All you have to do is put fresh clumping litter in, remove the dirty trash, and put a new bag in, and you are all set.

Your cat will be happy with his new accessories, and his nine lives will be blessed by you caring for and loving him every day unconditionally. God Bless you and your feline friends.

The Daily Chores Of A Cat Person

The Daily Chores Of A Cat Person

I clean out all of my cat litter boxes to start with. I fill my cat’s water dish with fresh water. More cat food is put in their food dishes. I give my cats a pat on the head. I fluff up their bedding and clean up any mess that might have happened at night.

I clean up any cat mess the moment I see it. I use a carpet cleaner or wood floor cleaner. I also use Clorox depending on the surface that needs cleaning. The faster you clean up a mess, the easier it is to clean up, as it has not set in yet. I clean up their bedding in a washing machine I have in my basement for cat use only. Beds that cannot be placed in the washing machine must be spot cleaned. I try to avoid buying cat beds that cannot be placed in a washing machine.

I like to brush or comb out my cats’ hair, so they do not get matted. A combed-out cat is less likely to have hairballs that they scarf up. If your cat has claws keep them trimmed up as the foot could get stuck in something they could not get free of without damaging themselves.

I sweep up any spilled cat food and throw it outdoors, as many wild animals and birds can enjoy eating it. I sweep around the litter boxes and clean them out twice a day. Dirty litter boxes or floors by the litter box are a perfect breeding ground for fleas.

Check your cat’s teeth often, as bad teeth could kill your cat shortly. If there is a sudden change in your cat’s behavior or pattern, keep a close eye on them, as it could quickly become a medical emergency. I spray Lysol on the floor by the litter boxes to kill any germs that could harbor there.

I hope you and your cat have many happy and healthy years ahead. The time you spend on the chores for your cat will lengthen his life and give you joy as you are helping your feline family member.

Springtime Chores With Having A Cat

Springtime Chores With Having A Cat

Clean up your cat’s litter boxes with mild dish soap, scrapers, and brushes, and have rubber gloves on while cleaning to protect yourself if you get cut accidentally. Clean food bowls, water bowls, and your cat’s bedding. Wash the litter boxes’ floor to kill germs and any viable flea eggs. Shampoo your carpets and clean all your bedding, as this will eliminate pests and cat dander.

Bathing and Flea Treatments

Bath your cat if you wish to do so. I like to use baby shampoo or flea shampoo for cats. Trim your cat’s claws so he does not accidentally ruin your furniture or dig his feet into yot. Use a flea treatment on your cats, mainly indoor and outdoor cats. The last thing you want is a flea-infested house, which will cost you up to $300.00 just for the exterminator. You will need two treatments before the fleas are killed off entirely.

New Cat Beds, Litter Boxes, and More

Springtime is an excellent time to replace worn-out cat beds with new ones. Replace old litter boxes that are gross and not worth cleaning. Replace those old, worn-out cat toys with nice new ones. Look over your cat food; if it is expired, throw it away.

Grooming Your Cat and Needed Supplies

Groom your cat. I like a cat brush, a grooming comb, and grooming gloves. My cats love to brush and have their hair combed and any clumps of fur brushed out gently. Sometimes it is best to cut out big chunks of hair that you cannot search through easily. Trim your cat’s claws carefully and never cut into the quick of the foot, as your cat could bleed profusely. If in doubt about the care of your cat, consult your Veterinarian. I hope you and your cats have a fabulous Spring.

My House Cats In The Springtime

My House Cats In The Springtime

My house cats start to shed their winter coat. I brush and comb out their hair regularly to eliminate hairballs and snarls in their hair. Some of my cats get a spring or waterless shampoo bath. Some long-haired cats must have matted areas in their fur cut out. I like to take my cats to a vet if they have a matted fur problem since they are professionals at removing matted areas of skin on cats.

My house enjoys eating fresh catnip and watching the various varieties of birds through the picture window. My cats will chatter away at the birds they are watching as if to say you would make a delicious appetizer if I could only get out to catch you. My cats spend much of their day watching and drooling over the birds they can see from the various windows in my house.

My cats are more energetic and playful in the spring than in winter. They love to chase each other up and down the stairs. My cats play more with their catnip stuffed toys and their cat ball and mouse game. My cats now sleep on top of their Meowfia Cat Caves. My cats now occupy my chairs, and their heated beds are abandoned until winter rolls around again.

Springtime is an excellent time to clean cat bedding and sterilize water bowls and food dishes. I scrubbed up their litter boxes and the floor where the litter box sets. I use a floor cleaner that sanitizes and sterilizes as this will prevent fleas from the cat litter. Please do not set your cat on the grass, as they can get fleas this way. Put your cat in a cage on cement or a cat tent on top of a deck. You do not want fleas in your house. Fleas will bite you, and all of your pets will have fleas. Getting rid of a flea infestation will cost much money, and you and your pets will be very uncomfortable.

I hope you and your pets have a happy and healthy spring.

My Favorite Pet Grooming Tools

My Favorite Pet Grooming Tools

I prefer to use a comb for a person on my cat Kohl. Kohl loves to be combed out with an ordinary comb. I like using a wire comb for cats with long hair. My Maine Coon cat Snowflake would get mats in her fur. A wire comb is very effective in removing matted hair.

I use a nail clipper as I use it for myself to trim my cat’s claws. I find it easier to use than the cat clippers. I never trim too much off of their feet at one time. I always try to avoid trimming too much off their feet because I do not want to cut into the quickness of their foot. Cutting into the quick of their foot can result in excessive bleeding or an infection.

I have an old rubber glove with little rubber prongs on it. This glove works quite well on removing loose hair from your cat’s coat. I purchased the rubber glove from a pet store about ten years ago.

I have several brushes that I use for my cats. I have used baby brushes to brush out their fur. Baby brushes are suitable for kittens since they do not have aggressive bristles. I also have several cat brushes. One of my brushes is a rubber brush which seems to work well for all hair types of cats. I have several meetings that have a handle on them with medium bristles. A medium bristle brush works well on short and long-haired cats. I  have one panel that has wire bristles with rubber tips. I use the wire bristle brush on my long-haired cats.

Always remember to start grooming your cat as a kitten. They will learn to tolerate being groomed at a young age. Trying to groom an older cat that has never been groomed before can be very challenging. They may not like being groomed and will try to bite and scratch you. Always talk softly and gently to your cat while grooming him; this will relax and calm him down.

The Older Cat

The Older Cat

As your cat gets older, he will require more sleep. My older cats like to sleep in the warmest place possible in my house. They want to sleep next to heat runs and in heated cat beds.

All of my older cats still love to play with cat toys. Having a young cat in the house with your older cat will make your older cat more active. My older cats still rule my house. If they want to sit on my lap, they give my young house cat a gentle little nip on the rump, and my lap is theirs now.

Some older cats get arthritis; your vet can give them some pills to lessen their pain. The older cat does not maneuver around as well as he used to. He might jump on top of something and knock things down now.

I have had several cats live to be eighteen years old. They were very limber up to about age seventeen. They would still chase rabbits and kill mice. One of my fifteen-year-old outdoor cats had one kitten on Dec. 1 . She managed to keep the kitten alive. She would sit on her kitten most of the day to keep him warm.

Older cats will not be able to groom themselves like they used to. The barbs on their tongues wear down with age. Help your older cat by brushing and combing out his hair; his coat will have that magnificent luster again. Remember, your older cat’s immune system is not what it used to be. Please make sure all of his shots are up to date, and remember to keep his annual checkups with your vet. You and your cat can enjoy each other’s company for many years. I hope you and your cat stay happy and healthy to a ripe old age.

What Does It Take For A Happy Cat

What Does It Take For A Happy Cat

A Happy cat loves to be patted and loved and appreciated. My cats love to sleep on soft, comfortable, and clean bedding. Freshwater every day is a must for having a healthy and happy cat. My cats love having cat treats daily and plenty of toys to play with.

Cats love to interact with other cats. They like to wrestle with each other and cuddle up together on cold winter nights. Sometimes my cats have their heads resting on each other as they take their afternoon cat naps. Cats love to lay close to you, lick your hand, or play with your hair.

20151109_101734

Cats love heated cat beds in the winter and heated water bowls. Cats also like fresh cold water in the summer months as their water heats up quickly outdoors on the toasty summer days.

20151227_112008

As the old saying goes, take your cats to your vet for regular checkups, as an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; keep your cat’s shots up to date for your safety, your cat’s safety, and the safety of the people that help care for your cats while you are traveling.

Cats love to be groomed by you depending upon your pet’s likes and dislikes of specific grooming tools. Cats love to groom each other and take great pride in their cleanliness. A cat can spend many hours a day just grooming itself.

Cats love to be showered with attention. Cats enjoy fish, turkey, chicken, and other good cat treats. My cats are happy when they are playing with catnip-filled cat toys. My cats love to play with a fish on the end of a stick—all of my cats like tuna canned in water. Pamper your cat with love, treats, and healthcare for a pleased cat.

How My Outdoor Cats Entertain Themselves

How My Outdoor Cats Entertain Themselves

Outdoor kittens love chasing after leaves that have fallen off the trees in the fall. The kittens will pounce on the leaves and chase after them as the wind blows them around. Kittens will play with their Mother’s tail. Young kittens love to wrestle with each other. Mother cats love to take their kittens with them while they hunt in the fields and ditches for mice. Kittens learn their hunting skills from their Mother.

My outdoor cats love to bask in the sun and lay on the warm cement by my house. Some of my outdoor cats like to roll around in the dry dirt in the garden or field. Moving around in the dry earth helps remove excess oil from your cat’s hair, so they take a dirt bath. Outdoor cats love to roll around in the garden while I work there.

My outdoor cats love to sunbathe on my deck when the sun is out. My cats enjoy my deck even in winter if the sun is out. Maggie loves to watch birds eating at my bird feeder. Maggie has never tried to eat any of the birds at my bird feeder. I think she knows I would not be happy with that.

Nola

My outdoor cats make sure my buildings are rodent-free. I have watched Maggie going around to the corn crib and old machine shed and looking inside the facilities for mice. Outdoor cats catch and eat a lot of rodents, along with the dry cat food I put out for them every day.

I have a few cat toys for my cats to play with in my outdoor cat building. They have a catnip mouse and four cat toy balls to roll around on the building floor.
